Hell need a legit injury for that to happen. If the player publicly challenges the team the league will investigate like they did with Lupul.

Unless Mrazek doesn't want to actually play anymore (which seems unlikely) I don't see what's in it for him to go along with it

I only play a doctor on TV, but I would imagine a guy who has spent most of the past two years on LTIR could get the Lupul Suite on Robidas Island without much of a stretch. But yeah would probably require some cooperation from the player.

You have to wonder if this was a breakout season or just a flash in the pan. He doubled his shooting career shooting percentage. Albeit 14% isn't crazy high.

He did seem to find some poise in his scoring ability ... but I just don't know if he's a consistent scoring threat.

I could move on but if he's reasonable in his ask, you look at it .. If you're re-signing him though, Engvall's probably got to go.

I feel like Mikheyev is a decent approximation of Nichushkin/Burakovsky but is just worse enough with a lack of that playoff grit that you wonder if it’s worth keeping him. He and Engvall are very similar and both give you nice boy hockey. But I don’t think we want that in the playoffs.

The left wing situation is an interesting one..

Bunting and Engvall are the still retained (although Engvall is a RFA) .. Mikheyev is a pending UFA, and I think you assume Kerfoot is traded.

Robertson was great for the Marlies once he got healthy. 16 G, 28 points in 28 games. He needs to have an "NHL" summer and get his strength/speed up to that level. I think you want to give him the opportunity to steal a job in camp but not make it his spot to lose.

I think you want to look for a blend of size and some physical play.. with a bit of offense and can PK.

I think you could keep one, but not both.

Either give Engvall's money to Mikheyev and go for a cheaper roll of the dice in free agency .. or let Mikheyev walk and use those savings to get a similar player.

Mikheyev's speed is no doubt hard to replace. But you could bring in a slightly slower (still quick but not Mikheyev fast) who is more physical.

They don't need Kerfoot's cap space for Marlies.

Kerfoot could be used in hockey trade though.
2.7 before the bonus 750k after.
He's worth his money and should be an easy trade.
Some teams have real money concerns.
He actually makes sense for the Coyotes, although trading anyone to the Coyotes is just mean!
LOL 🤣

It's not going to be Robertson or a first to dump Mrazek.
I don't think so. Mrazek is still more than potential NHL goalie and that two year term with that price was pretty spot on last summer. Middling or rebuilding team he is ok option and is basically free, so I don't see him as cap dump at the moment.

Bunting is a for sure thing

Kerfoot is unlikely to return

Likely Engvall

Maybe Robertson

Knies likely joins the team at some point.

Could we trade Mrazek to a team with cap space and have them flip him back to us at 50%? What would such a scenario cost? I don't mind the idea of giving Mrazek another crack in the backup role at half price.

There are probably some rules around/against that but if the Cap is a league wide allocation of HRR, then it should be allowed.

If players are restricted to x% of the HRR Pie, it shouldn't matter where they get that % as long as it doesn't exceed that %.

Some capologist would have the answer to your question.

It has to be 1 year between those trades right? However I believe the leafs could trade him with the intention of that team buying him out then sign him to a cheaper AAV

Didn't the Calgary Flames do that with Michael Stone a couple years ago?

Edit: The Flames bought out Stone when he was due to make $3.5mill, then signed him for $700k a month later.

If Chicago doesn't qualify him I'd be all over Kubalik

This is where your pro scouts need to step up and identify a youngish goalie on the verge of a breakout.

Tried that with Campbell It's time for a REAL #1

If the Leafs and Hawks talk about Mrazek and making it work, maybe taking on Kubalik if they don't want to qualify him might be something that works out. It would really surprise me because I think they can at least get a pick or something for him, he's still a solid player but it would depend on his salary demands.

I'd love to see a Czech line with Kubalik, Kampf and Kase. He's got a great shot but he hasn't been very good last couple seasons.

you can't do that line for obvious reasons

Still think a Leafs Islanders trade could help both teams.
To
Toronto
13th overall
Wahlstrom
Raty
Mayfield

To
Islanders
Nylander
Sandin

Islanders get their top line winger and top 4 Ld for their top 4.
Leafs get 13th overall + Wahlstrom to plug into the top 6, Raty a young high-end c prospect and Mayfield a big top 4 Rhd to plug into our d core. With Nylanders cap we can still target a top 6 winger and if we move Kerfoot, Holl and Mrazek we can fill roster holes and get 2 new goalies.
