Laine has just 6 points in his last 14 games… 2 goals in his last 16 games.

while averaging barely 13 minutes TOI in that 14 game span.

over his last 2 seasons he has played in a total of 52 games out of a possible 164.

in those 52 games, he has 33 points. over an 82 game season, he’d be on pace for just 52 points.

wowza.

8.7 million dollar cap hit.

such a weird career.

Isn’t that pretty much par for the course for his career at this point though? The initial hot streak when he got back from his injury was exciting, been like 7 or 8 years since he’s had sustained success though.

Not sure what his deal is but hope he’s able to find fulfillment whether or not that’s on a hockey rink.

He’s not anyways good enough to be a line driver and he got into a bad mix in Montreal

Had missed a full calender year, you’d assume it’s going to take time to get back together and then he’s on the 2nd line with Dach who’s nowhere near 2nd line C in the NHL

The only way to get anything real out of him is if you have a legit 2C on your team and you can allow Laine to be a complimentary player to him

He is a lazy guy. Barkov trains all summer and wanted to fix his skating, Laine just sits on his ass and says he doesn´t need to. He won't participate in preaseason stuff, just says that it will be glorious when I hit the ice.

He has an ego of a superstar which he is not. Major character issues. His parents are like Eric Lindros´s, believe you me, I am from his hometown, I have heard the stories. The winning in Finland and the hype got to his head overblowingly.

He has a good shot, of course. But it's easy to take away because he doesn't fix his other game at all.

Shame, he look good as a kid.

Yeah, man. Last night he was completely invisible…

An NHL season is an absolute grind and some are better equipped to deal with it than others
Being a pro athlete is about more than just showing up to the games and scoring a few goals. If you're going to be able to stay healthy and have a long career at the top, then you need to take care of your body and mind almost as much as your on ice skills.

From everything I've seen and heard Laine has not really been that interested in anything else than the on ice stuff. Big mistake in hindsight. Some guys can rely on only their skill and coast to the very top, Laine clearly can't. The guy has one skill, his shot. Everything else is on par for a 3rd or 4th liner.

still owns the blues though lol. 17 goals in 18 career games… absurd

We really want teams to shoot from the outside and the wall. We got really good at it…then laine comes to town and were feeding into his strength.

It really seems like laine was tailor made to score on us. He’s one of the few who are dangerous with a non screened shot from far outside.

Pre-shoulder surgeries tarasenko would have devoured us too, good thing he was on our team.

Bedard should be absolutely shredding us but in the few games against him I haven’t seen him take the shot from like high circle and beyond. Hopefully he never figures it out.

I always wanted to see if the blues would bring laine in: we have about 7 years of plays we build for tarasenko that his shot would fit right into.

8.7 million/year may have cushioned the fall a bit.

Remember all the Laine > Matthews threads Jets fans used to make? Pepperidge farms remembers

We had a resident poster who would always advocate to take "the other" 1OA candidate year after year. Did it with Drouin over Mac, Svetch over Dahlin, Laine over Matthews... who hangs their hat on Draisaitl (3OA) over Reinhart (2OA). Funny that.
