Why'd no one do that with Spezza by the same argument (though, I admit Spezza and Krejci are very different players)
It would be a sure way to torpedo a relationship with a fellow GM and agent

Because spezza is a 4th liner who played in the nhl for league min

Krecji went home and played then would come back for league min. It’s circumvention that’s why they have the rule.

Why couldn’t Toronto just stash a whole bunch of stars in sweden and then bring them back for league min?

Sorry but dubas doesn't have what it takes to just say we want to go for it this year and be willing to give up stuff. The real contenders decide to get better no matter the cost
The real contender are blowing out their brains out for middling talent. After this comment, I am even more sure Dubas is the guy to navigate this team. No competitor has any picks high picks left, so if they fail......the Leafs have all their high picks left going forward and a deep prospect pool.

It's a tough time to win any time but the Leafs just happen to be a good team along with the likes of Carolina, Florida, Tampa all peaking. Last year was a prime opportunity to get to get to the finals. This year, again, we may not make it out of the 1st round with the question marks in goaltending and defense.

Would love Schenn. Him being right-handed is the cherry on top. If we can grab Schenn and Giordano....our defense would have the depth to play any game. Which is exactly the philosophy Bill Guerin is going with. "We have ability to play the skill game or meet you in the back alley".

Rielly - Lyubushkin
Giordano - Brodie
Muzzin - Schenn

*Sandin
*Liljegren

Sandin & and Liljegren can rotate in with Schenn depending on matchups and what's needed. Also elite depth to have in case of injuries.
We'll look tough while getting blown out of every game with a nearly immobile D.

Looking based on these prices the smartest move will be not making a big trade

Maybe flip a 2nd for GIo or another helpful depth guy and that's it.

Most of the big tdl spenders won't get passed the 2nd round.

These are some STEEP prices.

Still like the idea of Giordano and MacEwen. I think they end up rolling the dice that Campbell comes back after the rib injury and plays well. As someone that's had broken ribs, it's very difficult to do just about anything and the only way for them to get better is to rest.

Fingers crossed.

I don't get how Florida didn't use their assets to get defensive help, they're pretty bad defensively and also PK wise. Instead they went and got another forward.
Seems Ekblad's injury isn't as bad as initially thought last night. They're definitely going all out offense though. Bobrovsky has also played much better for them this year which helps.

One or two of these contenders are going to be disappointed but picks won't help them for 2 or 3 years down the road. Tampa, Boston and Florida are in win now mode and will probably be lottery teams the next time they have a 1st round pick.

I can handle losing the battle to win the war as long as we compete in elimination games.

Its going to be this way for a long time. To win the cup you will have to beat good teams.
even if some of those teams drop off other teams will step up. Detroit and Ottawa are loaded with young talent. Montreal could get Wright or Berard and will have a bunch of picks.
Having to go up against other good teams is no excuse.

Hence why I said Liljegren and Sandin will rotate in and out depending on the style of play needed and matchups. Montreal had a big bruisng defense and went all the way to the Stanley Cup Finals

Fix the 4th line and maybe get Gio.

Bring up Knies as soon as his seasons done.

Gamble that Campbell rebounds or Kallgren keeps it up for a run.

These prices are nutty.

I think we're talking about two different things at this point
I know why they have waivers for players from Europe
I was saying if GMs are going to spite claim Krejci because he'd rather retire, then why didn't they do it for Spezza

Very curious to see where they would look to slot Knies in. If you trust him in the top 6, you can slot everyone down and we look deeper right away. Knies and Tavares together just works in my brain but who really knows.

bob has been hurt for the last 4 games and knight has been holding the fort for them

looks like they are trying to win it for jumbo joe and giroux

hard to argue zito's moves with the solid team they have tho

What assets do tampa Boston or Flordia have to spend next year now lol? Jesus.

Let’s just call up knies when we can, get his feet wet. Play Robertson more and let Lilly sandin grow.

I hope we don’t burn our assets this year, especially with our goaltending situation. We need to find another Lybush
