While potentially very nice pieces for us and I'm high on both...Gibson has been an All Star at least 3 times (could be more but I remember 3) at a premium position. A long term position of weakness in the organization. This one hurt.

Yes I get it - but just remember its a flawed argument since you don't know that we would have selected them anyway. Could have just as easily selected Zack Phillips and Magnus Hellberg.

What’s funny about this

Panthers record since Jan 1: 20-7-2 (0.72 P%)
Leafs record since Jan 1: 19-9-3 (0.66 P%)

Panthers record since Feb 1: 9-5-1 (0.63 P%)
Leafs record since Feb 1: 11-7-2 (0.6 P%)

With the way people around here have been talking, you’d think we’d be free falling. Florida has been fantastic, but the Leafs have been more or less keeping pace despite leagues worst goaltending. But ya, some of us are very clueless.
Don't let facts get in the way of being able to throw around funny nicknames, though.

He would get his first ever suspension if he ever plays for the Leafs... in his first shift.

Dude uses his stick like he's a martial artist.

He has to, it’s the only part of his game that is still left,

Are you aware of what the word 'speculation' means? Any idea how many clicks you get drawing a top trade target to Toronto? Now add in the uneducated fictitious problem that "Toronto needs D" and you have a narrative most goobers will lap up.

Do you truly thing a GM will leak his top target to the media? Gee, that surely wouldn't drive up the asking price, would it?

Some names with blue checks have linked Lindholm to Leafs the same way they did Gio. Perfectly reasonable to wonder if Dubas has a plan to re-sign him even if you don't have a plan yourself and if yes, you like the package.

I am very very high on Lindholm so approve of that package. And no I don't have a plan right now how it's all going to work. Seems like a complicated situation.

They would wait until after the playoffs. Let's say Leafs win the cup. Don't need to re-sign in that case. Mission successful. Deep run but come up short? Now we're in trouble. Definitely want to re-sign. For sure Muzzin and Kerfoot have to go as starters. Another 1st round loss? Even this is tricky because if it's a hard fought 7 games against Tampa, I cound that as a deep run. That's not your typical first round loss. If we get absolutely smoked and it's a loss where we didn't even stand a chance or give a good fight, the state of the team will be pretty wild, so hard to know conditions exactly after that. Safe to say in that event, the cap space will exist to re-sign him.

Ha. I actually had "Truculence" on then nameplate of one of my beer league jerseys after he made that comment. We also had pugnacity, belligerence and testosterone on the team. Was a fun time.
but did you pick up a free wallet along the way?

You do know that the reason lindholm is available is because he wants term and the a number that probably starts with a 8. Only way ur making that work is nylander is moved for picks and a nhl ready high level prospect.

I like Lindholm but unless we are trading for him with an extension I don’t like the idea trading him for a 1st and top prospect.

Obviously winning the Stanley cup I could get over trading that :)

I've been high on this guy since his draft year so I'm ready for that adventure if we do indeed get him. Might not be everyone's cup of tea I know. I think our cup chances are extremely high if we make this deal and I also think Dubas is not foolish enough to not have some sort of plan if he does make the trade. Every year I hear about how we can't make things work cap wise and at the end of the day, somehow it didn't turn out to be an issue.

Edit: As for the Nylander part no, if I have the hindsight to see it will cost us Nylander, I veto the Lindholm trade.

I doubt he gets anything that starts with an 8 on the free market. To get that kind of money as a D you need a legit offensive component to your game. Lindholm on average is a 30-35 point D. All of the D who get $8M+ are defensive aces just like him but also do much more offensively. Ideally he falls into the range of a similar contract like McDonagh or Morrissey - who are similar types of D.

Just spitballing, but maybe Pelech is a better comparable?

But like a little less defensive and a little more offensive.

I had a cool nickname back when I was playing beer league… Pylon!

That’s good, right? ;)
