Giordano:

Finally seeing the rumour mill come around to a player I think would be a great fit for the Leafs. but, just like Foligno he is going to cost way too much, and is more likely over the hill than having one great playoff run left in him.
Rielly boosh
Gio Brodie
Muzz Holl
Sandin Liljegren
That’s four well balanced pairings
Gio for Dermott + B prospect + 2nd

Apparently tweeted by Mike Stephens (?). He’s verified whoever he is:

“no Wayne Simmonds at Leafs optional skate this morning, which is somewhat odd bc scratches usually take the optionals.”

If that's all he costs, then I do it without thinking twice. It's the 1st rounder that I'm worried about.
Would you swap the 2nd for a 1st if Seattle swapped mrazek and drieger? I can see Gio wanting to stay and taking a cheaper deal to fit in, especially if he comes in and likes it. The only two nhl situations he knows is calgarys 40 year old twice flooded barn with so so facilities and Seattle which while having the newest of the new is still an expansion team.
Three months with an organization like this might make him stay on the cheap.

Their #'s and contracts are the same. Why would the Leafs bump it up to a 1st for a change of scenery for two players?

Mrazek and Driedger have the same value. In fact, Mrazek having a larger sample size of success probably makes him more valuable, and Driedger is only 2 years younger so it is not like he gains much in that regard.

It is certainly not worth bumping up a 2nd. That is a ton of value (i.e. more than a 2nd) to swap two struggling goalies.

who tf is JJ Moser and why is he wearing a tracksuit in his player picture WTF

edit: Gio and Brodie were a pairing in Calgary right? I think I remember that when TJB was young

Yeah I'd do that. That's actually a nice proposal for a change of scenery trade with the goalies.

Even if we don't pick him up at the deadline, if Gio wants to sign with us in the summer I'd be thrilled. Veteran presence on the back end who can play a Spezza type roll, but 18 minutes a night would be a great fit. I'd also guess that he'd be pretty happy to play with Brodie again. As you mention, it would need to be cheap, but I do think the player is a real nice fit.

You’re both right, I’m just so down on him right now after trying to be balanced and impartial giving the benefit of the doubt to his decade long track record vs his performance his first 12-15 starts.
So we all agree then, no first on the table. What would be reasonable then? Do we try and sneak a goalie swap in that deal anyway?

Seravelli was on the Morning show, and he says that other teams feel the rental prices are ridiculous. For example he says the price for Kulak is a 2nd when it should be a 6th.

Dermott + B prospect + 2nd for Gio seems too rich. I'd wait Francis out since I believe Gio wants to come here.
I'm not giving much value to Dermott, and a defenseman who can play 20 minutes a night is a decent add. It is a bit rich, but Gio is the first name of a rental that I've come across and actually liked. Especially with the name value he still commands around the league, I'd be surprised if he came any cheaper. I'm expecting him to pull a first tbh.

He's a Dman for Arizona. I'm guessing it's an older picture from the Swedish league maybe?

By B prospect I’m referring to a guy in the tier of abruezze hirvonen sda duszak etc. No interest in moving Knies Robertson or Niemela (Amirov is out of consideration for obvious reasons)

Understood. I just think a 2nd and Dermott is more than I'd like to give up for Gio the rental. I think/hope Francis will soften and accept a pick lower than a 2nd on Monday afternoon.

If alot of teams think the price is ridiculous which seems like it after the Montreal/Florida trade. Then teams will wait until trade deadline and wait sellers out.

No sense in bending for them. It's obvious certain teams want to get rid of expiring contracts. I'd wait until they have no choice but to get something.
