The trade for Muzzin cost TO Moore, Grundstrom and Durzi.

All 3 are playing for LA,, Moore is doing alright 36 pt. in 62 games, 4th most points on LA, Grundstrom is playing on the 4th line and Durzi has 17 pts. in 44 games in his rookie year.

I know many are equating Gio to Foligno in terms of cost and player but it’s worth noting that Gio doesn’t have Folgino’s injury history, has been fairly durable in his career, and is healthy as far as we know.

There are definitely concerns that his age might be showing though. And the cost is still high. But I’d say he would have a bigger impact that Foligno did if acquired.

How does a 4th liner get a 2 yeay contract let alone with ntc ?

Probably a courtesy given he wants to play in Toronto. Seems like he might retire after the contract, and I wonder if he got his family to settle in the GTA ( a young family too) so he doesn’t want to play anywhere else (even if it’s for one year).

I bet he’d rather be buried in the minors or a healthy scratch. Now that he’s hit 1000 games I wonder how he’ll be used

Doesn't matter how much we shine up our defense, if we don't fix our goaltending we're still just putting whip cream on a turd.

Shouldn't even bother wasting assets for rentals if we're just planning on sticking w Petr/Jack -- likely gonna get dummied first round by one of the Florida teams..

I’d pay no more than a 2nd + Dermott/Holl for Gio @50%

Otherwise I go the route of Middleton + other assets

First choice would be Lindholm if we could get him extended at a reasonable price. (Knowing full well someone like Nylander would have to be dealt in the summer to accommodate Lindholm ‘s contract) but...I’d also like an additional dman, one of either Middleton or Schenn to help clear the crease this playoffs.

Moore was part of the deal for Campbell.

I am not seeing anything that I would really miss long term.

Moore wouldn't be too bad right now I guess, but other than being NHL ready, I think we have more than a few guys like him in our system right now.

I think we have guys who are good as Grundstrom is right now on the Marlies (Anderson, Steeves, etc.).

Durzi is an offensive defenseman who has only put up as much production as Liljegren in many more offensive opportunities and in a sheltered role. Liljegren has looked capable against top end competition, although he just needs to get more comfortable and consistent with it (aka he just needs some time and patience).

Even Bjornfot is fine, but hasn't looked like anything special yet.

Muzzin and Campbell has brought more to our team than any of those guys would have.

And what about the last.. 3-4 years that Muzzin has been on the team. Who fills that position while they wait for prospects to develop.

Would you swap the 2nd for a 1st if Seattle swapped mrazek and drieger? I can see Gio wanting to stay and taking a cheaper deal to fit in, especially if he comes in and likes it. The only two nhl situations he knows is calgarys 40 year old twice flooded barn with so so facilities and Seattle which while having the newest of the new is still an expansion team.
Three months with an organization like this might make him stay on the cheap.
Why? Dridger has been just as bad as Mrazek this season, he is signed just as long and for only 300k less.
Mrazek sucks. I have hated his deal from the second it was announced. But we aren’t paying a premium to exchange him for another struggling goalie who isn’t really cheaper or signed to less term.
If Seattle wants to switch them in a change of scenery move why not. But we shouldn’t pay extra to do it.

Dont overreacting about d or goaltending.

Since february 1
overall they are 10-7-2
4.05 goal for
3.63 goal against

Non playoff team 5-5-2
4.33 goal for
4.25 goal against

Against playoff team 5-2
3.67 goal for
2.57 goal against

My question, do we just overreacting because leafs didnt play like they need against bad team?

Dermott and a 2nd is too rich for Gio. I know a lot are down on Dermott (myself included) but he holds decent value.

Ideally for me, we get Giordano for a 2nd + B, or C prospect, and then trade Dermott for a UFA 3rd line winger / 4th line player to help upgrade the 4th line.

Would love Lindholm, but not at the price of a 1st round + good prospect + another asset.

What makes Pelech so great is that he actually has the excuse of getting pounded into the dirt by usage that Chiarot doesn't quite have. Look at his apparent bad numbers compared to his zone starts. Well above the water mark across the board and better than anyone on his team. An amazing player really.

Yep, and that was my point - if you want an accurate measurement of the player, you need to weight those stats against deployment - namely qoc and zone starts. If we just measure Pelech by those stats you initially supplied, he looks like an above-average dman. But if we look at those stats again in the context of his brutally tough deployment, he suddenly looks like a stud.

Similar effect with Chiarot - those stats make him look like a below avg D, but if we incorporate his tough deployment, he starts to look a lot better. Not Pelech level off course, but like a good defensive piece (although to your point, made to look better by Weber).

And I agree, Giordano might be a better get, especially as I think he'll cost less.
