For a team like us, with limited cap, you simply don’t move young, quality, cost controlled defenders

I know many are equating Gio to Foligno in terms of cost and player but it’s worth noting that Gio doesn’t have Folgino’s injury history, has been fairly durable in his career, and is healthy as far as we know.

There are definitely concerns that his age might be showing though. And the cost is still high. But I’d say he would have a bigger impact that Foligno did if acquired.

A healthy Foligno might have been okay. We only had the Habs choke to judge him by and the failure to launch by AM and MM was what killed them, not what he didn't do. Gio is older and and his post Norris seasons haven't been great but he will be 10% healthy and with the strongest lineup he has had in years. There is a strong possibility he will be measurably better than Nick and a slight possibility the guy from 2 years ago shows up from time to time.

good lord ... if they are going to spend to get gio might as well just give up the extra asset for lindholm or klingberg ......

id rather them spend assets putting toegther a functional 2nd and 4th line. on D they probably just need a braun or mayfield type guy on the bottom 3

Funny enough we “could” fit

Fleury at 50% for mrazek and 1st
Gio at 50% for dermott 2 and hiroven

That works if we temporarily sent down sandin and Lilly. Even if muzz came back
