Seriously traded liljegren for miller is a thing dubas should look for. Nothing against liljegren, hes a great kid but i just cant see in the futur a succeful top 4 with both of rielly, sandin and liljegren.

Rielly will stay a leafs and if i have a choice between sandin or liljegren to do, for me its pretty easy.

Why can't that be a future top 4? Sandin and Liljegren can easily be a good 2nd pair in the future.

They are too similar, you need complementary player to be succeful in a top 4.

Rielly and sandin love to join the rush so they need a kind of stay at home dman and liljegren will never be that type of player

I just hope patience prevails and they don't move him. I get a very Anton Stralman vibe possibly even better

Took 8 years for Anton to become a stud dman though. We're in win-now mode, and are already developing a better prospect in Sandin.

Dubas had an awful last offseason. Mrazek, Ritchie were terrible signings, one of which possibly cost us a 2nd to get rid of.

Kase has been good value for his cap but really not a game changer or what was needed at all.

Kampf was okay, really a fourth liner and we have Spezza who is better. Overall an awful fit for the 3rd line.

Bunting has been Dubas’ saving grace as he’s been awesome

Kase, Kampf and Bunting have all been excellent signings. There really isn’t much argument against any of the three. They’ve provided exactly what they were acquired to do, and more in Buntings case.

Mrazek deal was a little rich, but he’s been a quality tandem goaltender through his career, and this year has just really gone off the rails for him. It’s sucks, but you can’t really fault the Leafs logic in acquiring him.

Ritchie had red flags around him. I thought he’d be fine, I was wrong, as was Dubas. He corrected it and it did not cost us a 2nd. You can’t just casually omit the player we got back in the deal to make it sound worse

Nevermind the fact that it's probably a 3rd, and if it ends up being a 2nd it's 3 years from now.

Well said.

But people feel the constant need to misrepresent the facts to match an opinion.

I think Kampf and Kase have been good but not what we needed as I mentioned in my post. Kampf would be the ideal 4th liner if Spezza were not on the team. As a 3rd liner, there’s much to be desired about his game

Also Bunting has been excellent.

Yes it could be a 3rd and we did get Lyb back but the other player was waived as soon as he got here. So if he’s what we have to show for the 2nd that would be pretty meh. Also Dzingel was picked up but let’s not forget we got a capdump in him back along with paying a conditional 2nd

Liljegren+1st+ for JT Miller

I’m down. We need to make more moves too, but Miller is exactly what we need up front.

Sucks giving up Liljegren, but we can swing a trade for another D.. maybe Giordano.

Moving Ritchie cost us taking on Dzingel (who was subsequently claimed by another team but would have been decent depth) and Hutton. So we had to take on two fully buriable contracts which expire at the end of the year, and one of them actually could have had some utility for our team. If that was the downside of that Ritchie signing, it was far from a terrible signing considering the upside he had.

Lyubushkin would have got the pick if he was acquired at the TDL. Probably an overpayment, but that was the cost to get him.

Mikheyev and Kase (who do receive some 2PP minutes) are 0.5 PPG players playing heavy defensive ES minutes and are excellent shutdown guys. Kampf is not getting any offensive minutes at all and he is on pace for 30 points himself (while also being an excellent shutdown guy). Spezza is a pure offensive guy whose points mostly come on the PP and he is barely pacing higher than Kampf offensively. Kampf > Spezza based on what is brought on the ice.

So far, Mrazek is the only one which hasn't really paid dividends, but the man still hasn't had much of a chance to get into a rhythm. Let's give a proven NHL veteran more than 10 games (which have come over the course of 5 months when 50 games have been played) before we write off that signing... Especially when we have people who crap on Dubas for letting unproven guys who have never looked good enough go after a few games (i.e. Marchment).

Before that Montreal game, Mrazek had a .910 in 2022; the first time he has had any consistent playing time this year.

Starting to think we will see 3 deals.

Either 1 big (Miller, Chychurn, Hagel+Murphy type) and 2 small (Braun, Schenn depth types + trading Demott/Holl for picks).

Or

2 medium (Mayfield or Giordano types or equivalent type forward) + 1 small (the Dermott/Holl for picks deal)

IDK if you put them together, but I can see Liljegren replacing what Brodie brings right now.

So Rielly-Liljegren and then Sandin with some kind of solid defensive top 4 RD. Probably a guy who comes externally.

Kokkonen would be great fit on the bottom pairing alongside maybe a guy like Niemela. Kral, Koster, and Villeneuve are also solid options, but I imagine some of those guys will end up in trades at some point if they progress well enough to be attractive.

Those are our only real defensive prospects in the system right now. Rubins is likely nothing more than a good depth guy, which is fine. We need those guys too.
