Fair enough. I get the sense most fans wouldn't want him at any cost.

If he came cheap he would be a serviceable bottom pair guy for the playoffs. Like mid to low round pick. Paying a premium though is a big time nope.

Also: I'm not advocating for Chiarot. I'd be pissed if we acquired him.

It's just funny to see him go from top-4 D to shouldn't be on a NHL roster in like a day. If another team added him for like a 4th or 5th I'd be like "good trade", "decent depth" "right partner, right system he's servicable". Makes no sense with us, and his rumored cost is hilariously awful.

Yeah if his cost was where it should be I would have absolutely no problem bringing him on. He isn't as bad of a player as his metrics show out this season....but he still isn't give up a 1st + as a UFA good...and he never has been .

If he's targeting someone, it wouldn't be the worst thing in the world to use CJ to throw up a smoke-screen to put a little pressure on the potential trade partner.

Chariot or not, an upgrade on Holl on that 2nd pairing is our most glaring need.

Agreed, but Holl is better than Chiarot in my opinion. If that's the upgrade, I'd pass.

It just makes no sense. The rumoured price makes no sense. His numbers/metics are awful and he plays a position we're stacked on.

If the price was in line with what it should be based on value and precedence, then sure fine whatever. But he's rumoured to be THE Foligno of this deadline. And he's not even clearly better than any of our top 6.

Dubas has not learned from that dumb Foligno trade if they are actually invested in acquiring him.

And to add to that, he's been playing in a dumpster fire of a situation all season. His intensity level will be way off for quite some time. You can't just flick a switch when you join a contending team, especially in such an important role on the blueline.

Savard was terrible value for Tampa too, so IDK why anyone would pay that.

Kokkonen and a 2nd is not something we should entertain either. They are delusional if they think they are getting one of our top 5 prospects for a mediocre (at best) rental.

Man you guys have overcorrected insanely hard on Chiarot and I love it

The guy was a serviceable NHL defenseman as recently as last year. He just takes WAY too many penalties. On a better team, better system he can be a fine #6 defenseman as long as he stops being an idiot with the penalties.

A top-90 pick is a joke though, but its not like he's completely useless when he has a decent partner.

It's not always the team that goes all in at the TDL who comes out on top, Washington & St. Louis in back to back years did almost nothing yet they won the cup; funny enough Washington won the year after they went all in as a favorite.

If costs stay high or they're outbid even just adding a depth D like Schenn or Braun as a plan B would solidify their depth going into the playoffs. It'd be cheap & they'd have more expendable assets for next season which is possibly an even better opportunity.
