GDT: Trade and Free Agency Thread - 2021/22 PART VII

I've been figuring on Bunting/Kerfoot/Kid on the left side next season. A Hagel add
either
makes Kerfoot expendable (@2m cap savings) and we go Bunting/Hagel/Kid, PLUS recoup some of the Hagel cost by trading Kerf
or
we find the cap savings elsewhere and can run Bunting/Kerfoot/Hagel for slightly cheaper than we did Bunting/Kerfoot/Soup

And with Hagel expiring to RFA he's either a 2+ year piece or we'll get value out of him.

He's way ahead of Hartman, Goodrow and Coleman at the same age and they all garnered a 1st or greater.

That'd be great imo! I forgot to even mention Hirvonen. Hirvonen and 1st for Hagel. Mikheyev & Dermott for Mayfield (reason being Mikheyev won't wanna play on line 4, and will likely not re-sign, whereas I think Engvall would be open to staying a Leaf). New lines shake out:
Bunting-Matthews-Marner
Hagel-Tavares-Nylander
Kerfoot-Kampf-Kase
Engvall-Spezza-Simmonds
Rielly-Brodie
Muzzin-Mayfield

I don’t think he’s lying necessarily, but the Leafs since Lou have been notoriously tight lipped so it’s odd to hear a rumor come out. Could be media manipulation, Dubas leaking a rumor to scare a team with another D who now think the Leafs may back out of their deal if the price doesn’t come down.

Doing nothing is better. Dubas and his team may be good at building a team with cap constraints but he's having trouble with trade deadlines...

I am a Dubas supporter, but if Chariot is his guy, I can't defend it much like the Foligno disaster. Like I get if Dubas went after Manson, I wouldn't like it but I would understand the rationale. Chariot I don't get.

I understood Foligno but he got injured. If Nick Foligno could have played for us like he played against us, it was a good bet. I can live with that despite the failure.

Chiarot is ugly. No way to justify it.

I'm pretty anal about LD/RD

Chiarot is absolute garbage at RD, doesn't have hands or mobility to pull it off.

LD, if we had an actual need for the 3rd pairing LD, I wouldn't mind *that* much but it seems dumb to throw assets at something that really isn't a problem, we have Rielly, Sandin, Muzzin and Dermott and there are other really cheap rental options for 3rd pairing LD if they really want one.

Chara will not to be useful in the playoffs. Games become faster and harder to play. Chara no longer has the legs, he can't pivot for his live anymore
Physical play picks up, if you can skate

We have gone through this route, bringing on players who we think magically reinvent themselves in the playoffs. They usually don't.

I like what Calgary did. They got Toffoli who still has years and terms left.

As depth only. He also brings leadership to the table. Doesn’t hurt to carry someone like him along to add experience. And of course if the price is right. Not talking about a first round pick here.

Bad advanced stats?

He has sub 50% for CF%, GF%, xGF%, HDGF% etc when I checked at 5 on 5s on Natural Stat. Basically all that shows is he scores a lot of goals which are massively inflated by shooting 20% when he shot like 8% last year. Seems like the stats say he is heading for regression as he isn't doing anything too well other than putting the puck into the net at an unsustainable pace
