I’d do a 1st + B prospect, I’d upgrade the prospect to one of the big 3 if they retain 50% and we get him at 750k for 2 more seasons.
I doubt Dubas gives up one of those big 3 prospects for Chicago to retain 750k…. That should cost him his job if anything to be honest. Would be a terrible move.

3 seasons of retention is a lot. It’s also not an A prospect in a vacuum for retention, it would be the value difference between a B and A prospect.

I wonder if Chicago would be more interested in Dermott instead of a good prospect. Kane and Toews are aging and they added Jones so I doubt they’re going into a full blown rebuild. A 1st and Dermott for Hagel would be a pretty good deal for both sides. Salaries even out. Dermott would be their 4th best defenceman behind Jones, Murphy and McCabe.

Ya, Dermott might work if they’re looking for young NHL bodies.

What would the ask be? Similar to Coleman? Maybe less because there’s no need to retain like Jersey did? 1st + Prospect?
There is a thread on the main board with their ask. Was 1st+Top Prospect+another asset. Seems like a ton for a guy who has no track record. However he is young and tied up at 1.5 million for 2 years after this one. Too rich for my blood. Too risky

Edit: interesting that so many would pay a 1st + top prospect so easily, why is that? Kid is shooting nearly 20% at the moment with pretty bad advanced stats across the board. Also has a PDO of 0.993 at 5 on 5 with heavy offensive zone usage....

Seravelli saying Leafs have inquired about Hagel.

Hagel would be a tremendous add. We need cost controlled players, and he's only making 1.5 mil per for an addition 2 seasons. After that, he'll still be an RFA. He'd be a great asset to lock in. We have plenty of good young prospects, and unfortunately parting with a 1st is just what you do when you think you're in your window of contention. We paid a 1st for a handful of games of Nick Foligno. Paying a 1st for a 23 year top 6 winger that is cost controlled for two more years ...seems like a no brainer to me.
Amirov, Robertson, Knies, Abruzzese, Anderson....
I'd say we for sure keep Knies and let Chicago pick one prospect to bundle with that first and we call it a day. Means our top 6 would stay completely intact next year too. Tavares-Nylander could use a Hagel type

Thats why we love you Mats among other reasons. Could you imagine a prime Sundin on this team?

I mean I like Hagel but let's not get silly. He's very reminiscent of a guy like Andreas Johnsson before he got his contract.

1st and Hirvonen get it done for Hagel? Does that allow us to move out one of Mikheyev or Engvall to create more cap space for a move on D?
What I was thinking too.
Hagel is a perfect fit for this team. Style of play, and very young to be a part of the team for a while. Hagel and someone like Pysyk on defence and we are set.

Really like Pysyk as well. Would be a fantastic cheap addition on the third pair and he’s a RHD. Wouldn’t cost much to re-sign and probably acquire.

It probably pushes Liljegren into a 7th spot which isn't ideal, but can rotate in and out. Thats great depth having him as a 7th.

Whether they get him or not, it's embarrassing that Dubas is so heavily in on him

Bad advanced stats?

I think Pysyk would just replace Holl on the backend. You can re-sign Pysyk for under a million, probably 900k and get rid of Holl. Saves us 1.1 million which is huge for a cap strapped team. That can be used towards re-signing Sandin and Liljegren.

That'd be great imo! I forgot to even mention Hirvonen. Hirvonen and 1st for Hagel. Mikheyev & Dermott for Mayfield (reason being Mikheyev won't wanna play on line 4, and will likely not re-sign, whereas I think Engvall would be open to staying a Leaf). New lines shake out:
Bunting-Matthews-Marner
Hagel-Tavares-Nylander
Kerfoot-Kampf-Kase
Engvall-Spezza-Simmonds
Rielly-Brodie
Muzzin-Mayfield
Sandin-Holl

I've been figuring on Bunting/Kerfoot/Kid on the left side next season. A Hagel add
either
makes Kerfoot expendable (@2m cap savings) and we go Bunting/Hagel/Kid, PLUS recoup some of the Hagel cost by trading Kerf
or
we find the cap savings elsewhere and can run Bunting/Kerfoot/Hagel for slightly cheaper than we did Bunting/Kerfoot/Soup

And with Hagel expiring to RFA he's either a 2+ year piece or we'll get value out of him.
