If Tampa's cups tell us anything, it's firepower and goaltending that won cups.

I thought adding grit is what did it, no cups before but add Maroon, Goodrow and Coleman, they won.

They became a more rounded team.

Now they have the confidence after winning 2 cups, they won't be an easy out.

That 3rd line was solid, but those Vash performances in big games were crazy.

It's not so much stock piling forwards, some of us just have an issue that Adam Brooks on the 4th line can probably out score Kerfoot on the second line over 82 games. I mean can you blame people for wanting another forward for the top 6 so we can move Kerfoot back down?

Kerfoot is scoring at a pace in the NHL as good or better than any scoring pace Brooks was able to put up in the AHL

Kerfoot is less than 2yrs older than Brooks.

Could just sell high on someone for once, Kerfoot's PDO / production likely isn't gonna get any better than this season.

A team acquiring Ritchie would be a low risk moderate reward type move.

Ritchie can continue to poo the bed and he’s only on the books for another season. He has some untapped potential and offensive big bodies are rare in this league.

I don’t think it’s outlandish that a team may see value in him, even at 2.5

It's not. There's always a GM out there interested in a big boy on skates.

Not that the Leafs will get anything for him. Best case scenario they can swing a deal for an AHL contract

Time for that is in the off-season after his bonus is paid out. 3.5 mil caphit for 750k in real cash, let some bottom feeder rent him until the deadline, feed him PP minutes, and flip him at 50% for some picks.

I've got no issue with that, especially if we get approached on him... in the off season. He's been a very good player for us, especially at the price, but we've got a bunch of LWers coming through. If it looks like Knies, Amirov or Robertson might be ready for next year... go ahead and move him.

I just don't want that to be a firm thing, only off-season if a decent deal is here now.

Issue for the front office is,.l.does moving Kerfoot st the tdl make the team overall weaker? Imo answers a fairly easy "yes".

Over the summer is a different story though. I can see him potentially being moved out then

I am happy that we got Brooks back, and have cheered for his career since he was with the Pats, but if he out scores Kerfoot's career high, at any point in his career, that will be a miracle. He's kind of a really good tweener, between the AHL and NHL.

Unless we are doing a thing like bringing in a JT Miller of course... an upgrade is acceptable.... I'd agree, off season move, unless an upgrade comes... I should have stated that last post.

Does - Ritchie + Holl + Mid (meh) prosect for Subban (@50%) sound any appealing?

PK hasn't looked too bad and would fill a RD spot, all while having a net wash in terms of cap (I get it a portion of Ritchie is buried)

No. Holl is better than Subban.

Nick is real talented, for the marlies sire. He ain't no gangsta for us though. We are getting rid of him as soon as dubas can. Lets see if its next week, or the next after that. We are already hard, but will get even harder. Might even take in chiarot or Petry or a real killa in rinaldo. We that gangsta. With our gangsta ways.

That was more tongue in cheek to point out just how little Kerfoot scores in his top 6 role. But since we're on the topic, I think Brooks can beat Kerfoots current pace if he started the year a full time 4th liner beside Spezza and played the same amount of games.

It's not like Kerfoot made it a difficult task or anything, which is the main point. The guy has 7 goals as a top 6 winger on the Leafs. A team whose top 4 can make you a star over night. He needs to get out of there.

Leafs need 4 players, 2 D and 2 forwards

They need 2 d that can play defence first, big bodies that can slot in behind Muz but ahead of Sandin. If you go into the playoffs with Holl and Lilygren in the lineup, kiss the cup good bye.

Two forwards that can play a heavy game, play in the crease (to take away the eyes of the opposing goalie), to play heavy in their own, end forwards that create space for the big 4.

The trouble becomes the cap and the fact Dubas emptied the cupboards bare last year. We don't have a lot of cap space and we don have a lot of futures to deal. If a team was willing to take Dermott, Ritchie and Holl as part of a package, that makes picking up assets at the TDL much easier.

from NYI Clutterbuck (RW) /Chara (LD)

Clutterbuck Scouting report
The feisty forward will hit anything in an opposite-colored jersey, though he does it smartly and picks up comparatively few penalties. Owns plenty of drive and determination that help him make life miserable for opposing defensemen when he gets in on the forecheck. Has grown into an effective penalty killer. He is not a big scorer but has a sharp, accurate wrist shot that is a decent weapon.

Chara scouting report
"Big Z" still has the size (6'9"), strength and enormous reach to be a shutdown defenseman, but his speed and mobility continue to decline after more than 20 seasons in the NHL. He plays with enthusiasm and grit, still has a booming shot, is a leader in the locker room and can be a mentor to younger teammates. Has great difficulty dealing with quick forwards, since he is no longer nimble. He will go down as one of the all-time great defensemen in the National Hockey League.

from Anaheim Getzlaf ( C ) & Manson ( RD )

Getzlaf Scouting Report
His playmaking is first-rate, and he also owns a big shot. A complete package, he plays a well-rounded game. Can play the point on power plays. Powerful, he uses his size effectively down the middle. Is not afraid to play a physical brand of hockey. He is a true leader in the NHL. Has become inconsistent in terms of production over time. Also has a tendency to take a bad penalty now and then. Will make poor decisions on the ice when he extends his shifts too much, or when he sees too much playing time. Tends to pass up quality shots now and then.

Manson Scouting Report
Has excellent size and is fairly physical along the blueline. Excels mostly in defensive situations and owns some shutdown ability. Usually plays with poise in the NHL. His offensive numbers, even at lower levels, were never his strength. While he can play a physical game, he is not the intimidating presence his father Dave was.

I can’t believe some posters think hertl is worth the equivalent of two firsts especially since we couldn’t afford to sign him next year at his price.

Our first this year plus 15th overall amirov is a steep price.

Dubas would have to do some fancy dancing to get 2 forwards and 2 dmen by the TDL. I'd settle for a top 4 dman who can play with Muzzin and a heavier LWer who can play with JT and let the chips fall where they might.

So what's happening with Mennel? couldn't he be an option for injury or number 6? or as a trade piece?
