The Leafs have been excellent defensively in the playoffs.

Not really. We've just played against teams with little offense. Sandin and Dermott have made critical mistakes, and we have been 1 injury away from drawing Marincin in, who was also awful. Not even going to mention Barrie.

Rielly and Brodie are the only 2 guys who've been good and healthy.

Even relative to the opponent, the Leafs have been very good defensively in the playoffs.

Our team by nature is not the aggressor but the one that gets preyed on. A team with a heavy defense has been able to neutralize our forwards and our D has made crucial mistakes that have led to back breaking goals. We don't have a veteran third pairing D like Bogosian this year. We've got Liljegren, who has been getting eaten alive in the regular season. One can only imagine what happens in the playoffs.

Leafs need not one by two capable D-men - one as a replacement for Liljegren and one in case of injuries (Muzzin).

Our defense has been much better this year without Bogo. Both the 3rd pairing and the PK. Liljegren has been a tremendous upgrade on him.

Bogo was also on the ice for more goals against and more goals against per minute in the playoffs than any other Leafs dman last year.

But Bogo’s partner were either Sandin and Dermott in the playoffs. Sandin certainly improved from last playoffs but it might also be Keefe sheltering him a bit more. Same as Dermott.

I agree that Lil is doing well and very solid.

To SJS: 1st, Amirov, 2nd/B prospect, Ritchie/Dermott/Holl
To TOR: Hertl (@50%), Middleton

Have to mull it a bit but I don't mind the bare bones of that trade.

We're giving up a 1st, our top 3 prospect and another 2nd/B prospect and a serviceable NHL player for a playoff run with Hertl? You are aware that he's a UFA and he's going to get at least $7 mil AAV on his next contract and we can't afford that. We are cap-strapped at least for 2 more years and having guys like Amirov and future 1st rounders ready to slide into the lineup as cheap and effective ELCs is going to be our only out. Why are we actively shooting ourselves in the foot?

At most I'd give up picks and a B-level prospect for a guy. I'm not giving up top-end sure-fire NHL prospects. That is so shortsighted.

That's going to be the price to pay for a first line forward (or elite 2nd liner) with 50 % retention (even as a rental). Look at the price of Folingo from last year... I'm not that big on Amirov so I'd do it.

I would like this trade, especially when they re-sign Hertl in the summer and trade one of Nylander or Marner and address other needs in that trade…

Like Nobody said, it's extremely shortsighted to make that trade. I liked the Foligno acquisition but the price was way too high for a rental. This team is going to need highly skilled young players on ELCs to remain competitive for the next 5 years and depleting our prospect pool every year for rental players for a 3 month run makes us weaker in the long term.

We only had 3 picks last year and only have 3 this year. We have good prospect depth at the moment but if we are going to be trading a package that consists of a fairly high end prospect like Amirov and 1sts and 2nds, it better be for a good young player with term or an RFA like M.Tkachuk.

Just because it might be the going rate for a high end rental, doesn't mean we should do it. We don't really need a top6 forward. Would rather bolster our top 4D. If we are going for a forward, I would prefer a bottom 6er for depth.

Servelli had some interesting suff this morning on Fan590. Mentioned Klingberg as a target if Dallas falls out. Klingberg would be great but we got almost no chance to resign him.

Talked about potentially retaining for Ritchie in a trade for something very minor. Leafs do not want to buy him out as it will add 300K to the cap next year and 1.1m the next. Says teams looking for a big body for the playoffs would be interested. Funny, isn't that what we could use??

Vegas looking for a starter since Lehner has a torn labrum. Mentioned MAF. I'd try to fleece them for one of our two "starters" but we know that won't happen.

Robert Hagg Buffalo looking to trade him.
2023 2nd or a prospect

Hagg was, and I'm not exaggerating, the worst regular defenseman in the entire league on Philly. He's not even a top-6 defenseman... in Buffalo AFAIK. Easy, easy, easy pass for free, let alone a 2nd lol

If you can trick a team into thinking Ritchie will be useful in the playoffs, that'd be great.
He's not a bad thing to have in your back pocket going into the playoffs, especially if you run into a series where refs stick their whistles up their ass. He is capable of better than what he's shown.

Convincing a team he's worth it at 2.5m is another thing... Where's the Chiarelli, Brian Burke or Jim Benning when you need them?

You’d have to think (or hope at least) that if Dubas went to 2.5 there must have been other teams willing to go to that.

To Toronto-
Fluery 50% retained
Hagel
Murphy

To Chicago-
Kerfoot
Holl
Mrazek
Mikheyev
1st Round Pick

Claim Adam Brooks and move Engvall up to the 3rd line to replace Mikheyev.

To Toronto-
Lyubushkin

To Arizona-
Dermott

Bunting-Matthews-Marner
Hagel-Tavares-Nylander
Engvall-Kampf-Kase
Brooks-Spezza-Simmonds

Rielly-Brodie
Sandin-Murphy
Muzzin-Liljegren

Campbell
Fluery

Definitely, he didn't sign with his hometown team so quickly because there was interest. It shouldn't have taken the highest bid to get him to come here to play beside Matthews & Mitch... you'd think

Since then he's played poorly but the timing helps for what teams often look for this time of year.
