Grab a bottom pairing guy who can move up to play with Muzzin in a pitch in case Holl regresses again or Lily can't handle top 4 minutes in the playoffs. That would probably be my only add if looking at rentals. Maybe a vet 4C for insurance?

No reason to trade more futures away with no success to show for it so far. After the 2023/24 season Matthews, Nylander, Brodie, Muzzin etc all hit UFA. If Matthews got almost 12 million then imagine what he will get now that he has a rocket etc. Same with Nylander. Going to need all these picks the leafs have been trading the last few years as cheap ELCs

Draft is the only area where toronto can find some good young player ilya Mikheyev, Nikita Zaitsev, Alex steeves, justin Holl, Bunting, hyman. But yes they cant trade everytime all their pick

Thats fair, definitely other ways to get cheaper young players but certainly the most reliable.

Agreed top 4 is a required upgrade 1st and foremost .. without that occurring it is a guaranteed 1st round exit to Tampa or Florida .. plus another VET defender for bottom pair would help a lot especially with injury .. Sandin and Dermy sh*t da bed last playoffs and will again .. Lily, who knows, but he is best option of 3 of them but I am not comfortable with any of them on 3rd pair in playoffs .. gotta be top 4 upgrade and then go top 4 25 minutes each pair per night

I agree - a top4 D would really help here. And, we're definitely in win-now mode and have the prospect capital to make a move. We don't necessary have the cap space and it remains to be seen if we have a trade partner - other than Chychrun not a lot of names out there I'm jumping at.

Why is the NHL trade deadline so damn late. March?? wtf
TDL is tied to the end of the season (defined as the 40th day immediately preceding the final day of the Regular Season) and as the season goes a little later this year than normal (a 200 day season instead of the usual 180-186 day schedule - extended because of the originally planned Olympic break and to provide more buffer in case things went a little sideways with COVID), the TDL was, in turn, pushed back.

But damn does it feel so damn late..!

Gotta stop shopping for bargain trades or upgrades
Florida’s are looking at chychrun and leafs are looking at schenn?

you kidding me
We’re a good team but still have no faith come playoff time
Either go for it and make a subtancial move or risk being the oilers in a few years and letting matthews walk

people on here were so happy thinking we’re serious cup contender but there’s allot of evidence now that we’re still lacking big time

This is why you bring in a 1B like Mrazek. I believe Jack will turn it around but it's why you want a capable goalie behind him.
Also stop this Muzzin-Holl madness. They bring out the worst in each other. Both Liljegren and Sandin have played well against 2 great teams so give them a bigger chance. Play Sandin-Holl which was great when they were put together, and Muzzin-Liljegren which has a better chance of working out then Muzzin-Holl

After Kerfoots whiff in the 3rd period Keefe sent out Spezza in his spot the next shift. I think Kerfoot had at least 5 whiffs tonight where Markstrom had to do nothing. Could have pulled the goalie and Flames would have been fine.

They can only choose between one of no.4 D or top 6 winger. I'm leaning towards the winger because defence won't help if we have no goaltending (and if we get goaltending, the need for a no.4 decreases). I think it's time to accept Kerfoot is going to stay around the 10 goal mark this season and get him back to the 3rd line to see if he can get some even strength points out of Kase. We need someone who can actually finish to the left of JT.

Also gives best 4th line in the league mik-spezza-engvall. Benefits of top6 W do outweigh D. I'd look to replace Spezza with a smash bro 4c though.

Why do some people keep thinking Matthews would leave the Leafs? Unless this team starts sucking really badly or we choose not to pay him after his contract ends, I find it hard to believe he would want to leave when he's in a good spot here. Playing in a place where hockey matters so much, playing with his buddy Marner and others and living in the best Canadian city.

If anything I'd think McDavid would want to leave the Oilers first, but even then I think the chances are low that he would do so anytime soon.

Also while it'd be nice to get a major player instead of a few tweaks, I really don't want to give up too much of our future when a number of our guys look pretty promising and perhaps not so far away from joining the Leafs and contributing.

I'd like to pick up a guy like Forsberg for the stretch run as a third guy too of he comes cheaper than Rittich did. Have 3 capable goalies for the playoffs.

I'm down for something like this - we do not want to have Woll and Hutch as our options if Mrazek or Campbell gets hurt

If we have to worry who our #3G is in the playoffs, we are done. Does Dubas even have a low draft pick left for another Rittich ?? Fix the D, hope one of Soup or Mrazek can carry the load in the playoffs or it will be the end of Kyle as we know it.

Do not waste assets on a goaltender, especially on a 3rd stringer. This is why we have Campbell AND Mrazek, and that is why the Leafs didn't want to make a move there.

Campbell will hopefully figure it out, he's had a rough go lately. Mrazek seems to be heating up and doing fine though.

Kallgren, Woll and Hutchinson is more than fine for 3rd string duties. Kallgren and Woll especially have shown good stuff this season. Only way you look for a goaltender is if there are injuries. Rittich was acquired because Andersen was injured for a long time.
