I posted this in another thread, but I think Dubas should do everything he can to get Chychrun and also try hard to get Chara.Chychrun with Muzzin would be very solid and Chara, although about the same age as Moses, is still a beast… especially in the playoffs!

Chara legitimately may be one of the worst defensemen in the league this year.

Why do some people keep thinking Matthews would leave the Leafs? Unless this team starts sucking really badly or we choose not to pay him after his contract ends, I find it hard to believe he would want to leave when he's in a good spot here. Playing in a place where hockey matters so much, playing with his buddy Marner and others and living in the best Canadian city.

If anything I'd think McDavid would want to leave the Oilers first, but even then I think the chances are low that he would do so anytime soon.

Also while it'd be nice to get a major player instead of a few tweaks, I really don't want to give up too much of our future when a number of our guys look pretty promising and perhaps not so far away from joining the Leafs and contributing.
I also agree
I read the he matthews is going home and all that but I don’t believe for a second he’s going anywhere

but the leafs do need a few upgrades still, obvious to me and their results prove it
If you keep planning for the future, specially when you have a decent chance at winning now, you will never have success in the present. Always looking ahead

drafting and all your saying is 100% important specially when we need young guys on good contracts to fill our roster but can’t waste away matthews and Marners etc…best years always planning for the future…aka Edmonton oilers

Chychrun yes for many reasons
Not sure about the second

Giordano is welcome here.

Any chance that Giordano and Giroux will pull a Spezza in the summer and sign minumum contracts with contenders? They woudl be interesting summer moves. Giroux is still probably too young to do that.

Leafs resigned Woll to a 3 year contract. Got to think they see him on the team next year as a back up.

Nope. He still is waiver exempt next year, and he is on a two-way contract next year too. That says that they 100% expect him to be on the Marlies, most likely as the #3 splitting duties with another solid goalie in Kallgren (they will likely move Kallgren some time in the middle of next year to give him more opportunities, and so we have room to give Petruzzelli or Scott an AHL job).

If things go according to plan, we move Mrazek when he has one year left on his deal and Woll becomes the backup at that point. He would have a one-way deal and would require waivers at that point, and he would have had 2 seasons as a #3 goalie for us by that time too (since he has already effectively taken that job away from Hutchinson this year).

Oh wow didn’t know he is still waived except. Yeah he’s the number 3 next year.

Not Giroux... he still has decent earning potential, and as you say, is too young for that.

I like the idea of adding someone without subtracting from the roster. It really makes the cheaper options (Schenn, Braun @50%, Pysyk) more intriguing.

Dubas needs to LTIR Tavares before the trade deadline.. not like he's been very useful lately anyways, we don't need him to make the postseason

Free up 11M and grab a top 4 D + top 6 winger

JT back in time for the playoffs

I doubt he goes anywhere when Arizona is still sucking pretty badly and that isn't changing any time soon.

A player needs an actual injury to go on LTIR and no you do not just sit out a PPG center when you're fighting for 1st in the division.

First of all, you can't just LTIR a player in the same way you can order your double double from Timmies.

Second of all, Tavares has 43 points in 43 games and 5 points in his last 5 games.

Campbell needs a new contract, Rielly's new one is kicking in

If Campbell is resigned I seriously doubt we are going to run a 3.8M 1B like Mrazek behind him next season, we are going to need a much cheaper backup to make the cap work

Dubas has almost certainly budgeted a certain amount of cap towards goaltending for next year. If Campbell goes over that, then he probably lets him walk. I doubt he is moving Mrazek to overpay Campbell, especially when Campbell does not look like he can handle a large enough workload to have a cheap backup at this point.

We will probably cut cap elsewhere. Dermott/Ritchie if they are not going to be full time guys and then maybe Kerfoot, depending on how much Spezza/Kase/Engvall/Liljegren/Sandin cost. We are probably going to turn to at least one of our forward prospects to fill out the bottom of our lineup next year (if not two), and that will save us some cap as well.

If Campbell stays you would be insane to run a backup at that cost, that's 2-3M you're flushing down the toilet

You also can't have a cap structure like ours and run almost 10M in goaltending either

Either Campbell walks or Mrazek is traded, those are your options

Well I think the disconnect here is that you think Campbell is getting 6.2 mill. He is not. Not even close, and not even before this past month where he has been the Leafs' largest liability. The man could have the season of his life and I doubt he is getting 6.2 mill.

The Leafs are probably topping out at 8-8.5 mill on goaltending. That means Campbell gets around 4.5 mill. That is all he is worth, that is what he has earned to this point, and I would be surprised if the Leafs give him more than that.

Cal Petersen contract is the market comparable imo.
