Friedman said that there was mutual interest between Chiarot and the Leafs when he was a free agent.

“Again, I think that the Maple Leafs will be patient and not overreact to some of the things that have been happening lately. But the reason I mention Toronto specifically is that I believe that when [Ben] Chiarot was an unrestricted free agent, and he signed with Montreal, Toronto was in there. And they just couldn’t make it work. But they liked him, he was interested in them, and he is a local guy.”

The Maple Leafs were once in on Ben Chiarot, but shouldn’t be this time around

That would be one of those false reports. Leafs may have had interest in him, he has no interest in the Leafs.

Which is why I prefer adding a forward
Agreed JT miller at 50% for two playoff runs and 1.5 regular seasons does a lot more for the team than any of the guys expected to be out there to replace Holl, unless they wanted a pure rental like Klingberg.
With JT you could also maybe bring Schenn home and send Dermott their way as a positive asset going their way to sweeten the pot, plus it helps us cap wise and brings a different kind of #7 into the fold.

I think the forwards are more than fine. Upgrading the defense is a must or it's probably another quick exit, IMO.
The Leafs didn’t lose in the last two playoff series because of Defence, they lost because they couldn’t score enough, or get a routine save from the goalies.
Replacing Ritchies cap with an impact player up front gives the team extra depth to count on

Glad to hear Lindholm is in play pending his UFA plans. More options buyers have the lower the price gets.

Lindholm I'm sure we're all 100% agreement in for once we'd take him in a heart beat
100% in on lindholm. If there’s guys who obviously upgrade the line up, I’m all in. Especially considering 3 of the other teams who would be interested are going to comprise the two teams they’re going to have to go through to get out of the Atlantic. Would love to extend him too, but I don’t know how that would work. (It wouldn’t)

Played Columbus and Montreal in a series as opposed to Tampa Florida or Carolina. Those teams would rip this defense a new arse hole. Upgrade the d and tell the big boys to be the difference makers they are paid to be.

The Leafs are doing very well in the standing, and our Goals Against is currently stronger league-wide than our Goals For. Yes I know less GP

This year only? Or is it over a couple seasons? The ducks had some awful teams the past 2/3 years.

Yeah it may be team related actually. His "decline" the last few years dissappears a bit when you look relative to his team.

Though this year at least he seems to have been plain bad so far.

Morgan so prone to the same mistakes- if you watched the jersey goal the other night he lifted his leg out of the way instead of blocking the shot like most dmenall dmen are prone to a bad m mistake even norris winners

Morgan isn't a great defensive player, he never has been but I've never seen him defend that badly in b2b games like Severson did

I'm willing to roll the dice but Severson looks like a Gardiner knockoff to me

I've been saying it for awhile now, JT Miller should be this teams #1 target. The guy is exactly what we are missing in the top 6 and he's not a rental.

Big fan of his and ticks a lot of boxes for us. I think VAN would have to retain though which might not be ideal for them as they already have buyout money counting against the cap next season.

Tight squeeze to get Miller in at 5.2m next year, Dubas and Rutherford have a trading history together though.

Miller at 50% and Ritchie is pretty much a wash. Just got to add enough futures to make it happen.

To Toronto-
Miller @ 50%
Schenn

To Vancouver-
Kerfoot
Robertson
Holmberg
Dermott
1st Round pick

I don't think Van will want to retain as they'll want to compete next year and will need the cap...but we can wash Miller through Arizona or something to get that retention, so maybe one or two of those assets would swing their way.

So maybe Miller+Schenn+2nd for Kerfoot, Robertson, Dermott, 1st, and then we send that 2nd+Holmberg to Arizona for the retention.

It's a lot of pieces to send out, but that's a palatable price to pay to me.

While some may feel lost out on McCann, Kerfoot is still punching well above his weight this season (and might even be a better fit with the Leafs atop the PP rankings). Makes me think twice about letting him go.

Loving the new player cards heh.
