In my opinion the player the Leafs should still be targetting and I think they are is Tyler Bertuzzi

If there's a player Leafs are going to go off the grid is this guy. I do think Leafs are on him
He check marks all boxes. Decent size, grit and can play top 6. Has a lot of sandpaper and still under another year of contract

On Overdrive today there was a part of it called Hug or Heisman. Apparently there’s some massive deal on the table for Dubas, but it would include Sandin. Did anyone listen to it? When I tried to, the volume wouldn’t work. Just wondering if anyone has more to say about this.

It was most likely just a hypothetical situation to see if the guys would choose to move Sandin or not.

I doubt Dubas considers bringing in an individual like bertuzzi. On the ice he checks a lot of boxes but I think there’s a few off ice questions vaccine status aside that would be cause for hesitation I’m fairly certain

This is what was going on, O even said heisman but what’s coming back? Without knowing how can anyone say

If Boeser played LW, we should be all over it. He would be a solid option for that second line. Him being a righty, however, kinda doesn’t jive. For me, I’d like to add Hagel and Chychrun. I feel like that takes care of big needs. Chychrun on the back end, with a healthy Muzzin back, makes that a contending 6, and Hagel would bring a nice compliment for the second line, although his shot% is almost certainly unsustainable, and the Blackhawks will probably be looking for a package similar to Blake Coleman’s.

The 1st rounder would absolutely have to go in a Chychrun deal, and we’d have to send a top prospect in both deals, for sure.

Team needs to just stop looking for pure skill and add some tenacious players. Muzzin needs to do us a favor and just sit out until the playoffs. Use the cap space to really add some playoff warrior guys.

1. Replace Kerfoot with JT Miller or Tyler Bertuzzi would go a long way.
2. Add another big Mobile Defenseman in the back end. Someone better than Holl. Manson would be ideal. Heck even Luke Schenn looks better than Holl this year.
3. Get some bottom 6 forwards for depth that crash and bang. Cal Clutterbuck? At 50% retained? Idk

I don't think he can play in Canada...

Let's be honest... If we found a way to upgrade our 2LW and 3D (LDorRD)

We are a completely different beast.

I think it's a key upgrade to our goaltending aswell... (Strong gritty winger to keep the puck on our stars sticks, and a top end, tough min. 2nd pairing Dman)

Figure out the border crap;
(Playoffs - LTIR Muzz until then)

Bunting - Matthews - Marner
Bertuzzi - Tavares - Nylander
Mikhayev - Kampf - Kase
Simmonds - Spezza - Engvall

Rielly - Brodie
Chychrun - Lybushkin
Muzzin - Holl

Campbell
Mrazek

--
Sandin in the chychrun trade
Robertson in the Bertuzzi trade

* among other pieces

Imo the goal scoring issue in the post season goes beyond the Habs series

Personally I'm just not overly comfortable banking on a single line having to carry the load offensively
I don’t think anyone would be. Many aren’t comfortable with the top 4 D or the Goaltending either.

Man, the thought of Dubas making a deal with Yzerman is cringeworthy.

Yzerman would floss his teeth with Kyle…..

You mean like Jarmo did a year ago for Foligno ??

With Muzz and Soup playing poorly, and Amirov's health up in the air, all of a sudden Kid Kyle's trade history not looking so good.

Kadri - loss
Marleau - loss
A.J - loss
Kappy -loss
Marchment - loss
Hutton - loss
Rittich - loss
Foligno - loss
Nash - loss
Ceci - loss because of Brown
Leivo - loss
Martin - loss

Soup - win
Muzzin - win
McCann - win oops
Ritchie - win but really a loss

Wonder if Copp would be a good second-tier guy to go after. Different skillset from the stars

Aside from faceoffs we could run Tavares - Copp - Nylander. A big body for the top six whose defensive acumen is stronger than the stats suggest and could babysit for the other two

If the Leafs are going to add help at the trade deadline, what would they have to give up? | The Star

Draft picks

The Leafs have first-, second- and seventh-round picks in the 2022 draft. That first-rounder is likely to be outside the top 20, which might make it easier for GM Kyle Dubas to deal than a top-10 pick. Dubas has said he is not afraid to trade picks, even if it didn’t work out so well last year.

Toronto acquired Nick Foligno from Columbus for the Leafs’ first-round pick last summer and a fourth-rounder this year. Foligno managed just five assists in 11 games with the Leafs, including one assist in the first-round playoff exit against Montreal. Columbus, meanwhile, used the Leafs’ first-rounder (25th overall) to acquire University of Wisconsin defenceman Corson Ceulemans, who looks like he will be an important part of the Blue Jackets blue line.

The Leafs, though, might be willing to include their first-rounder this year if it would help land a defenceman like Dallas’s John Klingberg, Arizona’s Jakob Chychrun or Anaheim’s Hampus Lindholm. And, while they only have three selections in this summer’s draft, they still have all but one of their picks in the 2023 and 2024 drafts.

The Leafs are in a win-now scenario. If they have to deal picks to achieve that, they can restock their prospect pool with U.S. college stars, undrafted players and international signings.

Other trade assets

The Leafs are currently weighing the performances of several defencemen — Justin Holl, Rasmus Sandin, Timothy Liljegren and Travis Dermott — and could include one in any trade package. Forward Ilya Mikheyev is in a contract year; he has shown his value to the team this season but his future cap could be too much for the organization. Pierre Engvall will be a restricted free agent after this season.

Outside the Leafs roster, Marlies Josh Ho-Sang and Alex Steeves could be of interest to other teams, as could prospects Matt Knies, Nick Abruzzese and Topi Niemelä. Still, the Leafs can’t deal every prospect they have for NHL help now.

Cap room

Toronto’s cap space at the deadline could be just under $4.5 million (U.S.), according to Cap Friendly. Much of that revolves around defenceman Jake Muzzin, sidelined by a second concussion, whose $5.6-million cap hit is hidden on long-term injured reserve. Will the Leafs keep a needed physical defender like Muzzin out of action until the playoffs to retain the cap space to add a significant piece?

The Leafs appear to be a top-five team in the East. An impact trade could help them take a run at the Cup. The best fits? Probably Chychrun or Lindholm on defence, Vancouver’s J.T. Miller at forward or Chicago’s Marc-André Fleury in goal.

Toronto need to see muzzin and campbell came back at their level.
Muzzin when he playing eith confidence, he bring probably more than what you can get from a chychrun.

Chychrun get a better shot and a better skater but hes not as physical than muzzin and defensivly muzzin is by far a better d when hes playing with confidence.

Every team having hole

3rd line of tampa = 4th line of toronto at best

Maroon-bellemare-perry... tampa depht is really poor...

Florida
Forsling and gudas look more like a 3rd pairing than a second pair. Outside of weegar and ekblad, this d group is pretty weak.

This is interesting. Is this comprehensive? Just picking through these, my thoughts are I think at the time the Kadri trade was considered to be a win, and even up until this year we could have probably said it was a wash (before Kadri went god mode this year). Barrie SUCKED here but no one saw that coming. I still give the trade an OK. Not amazing, but not a loss either. Marleau trade the resulting fiasco was bad though. Johnsson another wash - needed to clear cap, was bad last year, and after a hot start is bad again this year. Anderson is NHL-ready right now - could still be a win. I'd give that a wash too. Kappy trade we certainly didn't lose IMO - again he's gone completely cold after a hot start. If we managed to keep Rodrigues that trade would have looked even better.

Marchment, Hutton, Rittich, Foligno, Nash, Martin, even Leivo (though Leivo and Marchment were not getting minutes here), definitely losses. You also forgot Barabanov - we can add him to the losses list.

He's also supplemented this with some strong FA moves - Bunting, Mikheyev, Spezza, Barabanov, Kampf, Kase to name a few. Obviously we don't want to overlook the shitty ones - Ritchie, Amadio, Mrazek, Thornton, Lehtonen, Semyonov, etc.
