Way bigger presence on the backend, way more physical and blocks way more shots. Murphy would be a definite upgrade on Holl, even with his stronger play as of late. To me, Murphy seems like the ideal defensive partner for Rielly.

What else are they supposed to say?

That he's not expected back for 2-3 months?

If the Leafs start adding a player or two totalling Muzzins cap hit... it would be pretty much admitting he won't be back for the regular season. It might still happen though. There is still 3 weeks before the deadline, a lot can happen. They'll have a good idea where Muzzin is in his recovery.

I think that's pretty much exactly what most people have been saying over the last 2-3 pages. There's no point in the Leafs coming out and saying anything/tipping their hand.

They'll figure it out internally and know before the deadline whether he will be back in time for the regular season or not. There won't be a situation where they decide to use the cap space and all of the sudden he's ready to come back with 5-6 games left.

How many games are there between the deadline and the end of season?

The point is that they can't know for sure if he will be or not. Concussions injuries are so wildly hard to get a hold on.

If there's a small chance Muzzin can be back before the post-season and Muzzin wants to be back, they will make sure there's room for him to be back. Maybe in 2-3 weeks Muzzin see's no progress and they decide to shut him down for the season.

I don't think there needs to be a situation where the Leafs keep him out of the lineup like the Lightning did with Kucherov. Kucherov skated with TB 2-3 months before the playoffs started and nobody really batted an eye at it other than the fans.

Considering it's a concussion and not an ankle rehab with a standard timeline they should have the flexibility to be extra safe and keep him out as long as needed.

This exactly.

He's different, but not sure how much he should be better. Hes more energetic and bit more physical but he still have a lack of defensive zone-coverage ability ( its holl biggest strenght) and hes pretty inconsistant. So overall so sure if it really a huge upgrade or we just send a top prospect and a 2nd pick into fire for absolutly nothing.

I seem to remember, and can't find the quote, that Muzzin admitted even after he came back last time it took a while before he started to feel right, and even then was playing a little scared. Wish I could find it. Point is as everyone has mentioned concussions are funny. And even after returning last time he still didn't feel "right". I suspect they'll have a real heart to heart with Jake before the deadline... ask him how he's feeling, how confident he'll feel when starting to bang again. He may well say let's take the extra time so I can hit the ground running. Guess we'll see.

They will likely have this figured out before the deadline. Two concussions in a month is something that should be taken seriously. No point in rushing him back. If they have no concrete timeline by the deadline, the prudent thing to do would be to sit him out for the rest of the regular season.

Like you said, no one batted an eye with the Lightning did it with Kucherov. Vegas is doing it with Stone now too. The Leafs should be taking advantage of every opportunity they can and if they don't, that's a failure on managements part.

I agree. I think they end up sitting him out for the season, maybe even the playoffs to be honest. But I also think Dubas and the Leafs have been very good to players and that if Muzzin says he wants to play (and doctors give him the green light), they'll let him play.

So if by the deadline the Leafs are prudent with their cap space and don't spend over 2M or whatever the amount is, I think it's safe to say that Muzzin is probably back at some point.

100% agree. If Muzzin feels good and the doctors approve it, he'll play. I just think both sides are going to be incredibly cautious here.

Just having muzzin playing some game before playoff start could be a great thing. I dont think we can compare it to kucherov.

D are more expose than foward. Every mistake a d can do will probably cost a scoring chance or maybe a goal, it not the same reality as a winger.

Wondering what the ask would for Noel Acciari?

Back from injury and it doesn’t look like Florida has anyway to play him.

Could be a very useful addition…..

He would but you would have to think Florida would be wary of helping the Leafs right now.

Leafs don't really need another bottom line player that doesn't really push the needle.

Leafs should be aiming a whole lot higher than Acciari if they want to upgrade their lineup.
