My friend whose a huge Habs fan and listens to their radio says strong rumours of Chariot to TO for The first and Robertson and Montreal retains 50% of the salary.

I hope this isn’t true.

I wouldn't watch a single game for the rest of the season if that absolute bullshit happened.

Laine has an amazing shot.

Otherwise he isn't very good at team hockey.
True, but that amazing shot is what would get our 2nd line going… and going strong.
Tbh, I’m not a Laine fan, but he does score.

Well they have some bad un-moveable contracts but they really are letting some assets waste value.

The last notable players they sold were 2 years ago and that was Barclay Goodrow and Brandon Dillon.. and I guess Marleau if you think that's of note at this point

They also got some assets back in the summer of 2019 for Justin Braun .. but that was offset with what they paid to land, checks notes, Gustav Nyquist, at the trade deadline in the previous season where they finished last in the division.

You have to go back to 2018 to see a big move by them when they paid they price to get Karlsson.

I mean at this point that core is cooked and a rebuild is needed. But Wilson is hanging on. They could have gotten a nice haul for Hertl last year.

But they have $34.5 million of their cap tied up the Couture, Burns, Karlsson, and Vlasic contracts .. Karlsson and Couture have like 5 years left. Vlasic has 4, and Burns has 3.

Hertl is a good player but he's also 29 years old starting next season. Unless he takes a pretty good discount in both term and AAV, I don't see how they don't regret signing him really fast instead of selling high and moving on. Like you said, they have so many bad/bloated contracts and they are going nowhere as a team.

Doug Wilson did well for the Sharks for a long time but they need a new direction before they do more mistakes. Re-signing Hertl will probably be a bad mistake... but what do I know.

Doesn't sound likely.

i bet where there’s smoke, there’s fire regarding Chariot to leafs. but i’d temper what habs fans say as far as the return goes.

Leafs don't really need another bottom line player that doesn't really push the needle.

Leafs should be aiming a whole lot higher than Acciari if they want to upgrade their lineup.
Top 6F or top 3 D or nothing imo. Lots of depth at the bottom of both forward and blue line depth charts. It’s obvious this ltir situation provides them an opportunity to add a significant piece and they should 100% do that vs spending assets to back fill. There’s 8 nhl D and 14-16 nhl forwards at their disposal.

Dollars to donuts Dubas would like a mulligan on that one…..

Really didn’t understand the need for it, and I hated Dubas’ small tweener forward stage where he brought in Malgin and Petan……
One thing I think everyone would acknowledge is that when he recognizes an error in either in a macro situation like in philosophy of team building and coaching or in micro circumstances like individual contracts that suck he’s a quick learner and adjusts on fly beautifully.

This is reasonable, I can see Chiarot being one of several targets they’re looking at right now. I highly doubt either Robertson or a first are on the table for a rental.
I really don’t see Robertson being moved for anything short of an upgrade that fills a premium role for more than this playoff run (obviously as part of a package, not straight up)

I think someone from our top prospects is more than likely available, but only for a player with term than can help us this year and going forward.

Actually, I really dislike moving futures ...

Now with that being said, I think everyone should be available over the next 3 seasons to supplement the core.

Nylander and Matthews are UFA after 2024 playoffs.

Whatever it takes to ice the best team over the next 3 playoff seasons is reasonable.

Not for a rental though.

If cap space was no issues, would you say no to, three(3) 1st. round picks for Vasilevskiy?

I know he isn't available, I'm just using him as an example of what would you be willing to pay for a key piece?

In hindsight such a bad trade for the Leafs. Would be really nice to have him in our lineup right now. God damn.
he never would have gotten the chance with us, that he got with Florida ...4 mins on the 4th line and he's still an AHL player for the Leafs

I was going to say, "I have Hab friends too, they're all idiots".
And I thought I was your friend- either I'm not your friend or I'm an idiot- not sure which I prefer.

Seriously, as a Habs fan on the outside looking in you need a Chiarot type D-man. Big physical, not too fleet of foot but excels in the grind that is playoff hockey. That said, while I hope they get a 1st rounder for him I wouldn't trade one for him as a rental. I wouldn't have traded one last year for Savard or Nick Foligno either. I could have seen a Chiarot (retained) for Ritchie and a 1st type move but now that Leafs have found a way to dump Ritchie I don't think the value is necessarily there for you guys. As I said, I hope someone coughs up a 1st but would happily take a 2nd +4th (ideally 2023 or 2024) draft. I guess a lot will depend on which D men are ultimately available at the deadline. If I thought I was only a d-man away from a cup I'd blow my assets on Giordano

Definitely. Same with Verhaughe. But I guess my point is that we would've lost Marchment for nothing anyway, as much as that sucks.
Verhaeghe trade was just stupidity by Lou Lam 5 players for Grabner, when Gibson and Finn were the cernterpoints, Verhaeghe was a toss in to open contract spots, and then he never filled the spots

Seravalli: Detroit's Filip Zadina joins the latest Trade Target's list - Daily Faceoff

2. Tomas Hertl
Center, San Jose Sharks
Age: 28
Contract: Pending UFA, $5.625 million AAV
Last Rank: 3rd
Scoop: This week is believed to be the one where the rubber meets the road for Hertl and San Jose. Will the Sharks, who say they want to keep him, ponying up with the term and dollars required? The rest of the NHL is not convinced. And frankly, Hertl didn’t sound as convincing that he actually wanted to remain in the Bay Area when he was recently asked. He’s having a fantastic season, still on pace for 33 goals, but he’s gone the last 10 consecutive games without one – which is about when this became a real topic of conversation in the public sphere. Hertl would provide a significant return for the Sharks’ future, a necessary component for a team en route to a third straight season in lottery territory.

3. Brandon Hagel
Left Wing, Chicago Blackhawks
Age: 23
Contract: 2 more seasons, $1.5 million AAV
Last Rank: 4th
Scoop: Newly named GM Kyle Davidson did not mince words when he said at Tuesday’s introductory press conference that the Blackhawks are going to rebuild. What’s the best way to do that? Acquire as much draft capital as possible. If you’re looking for this year’s version of a Blake Coleman or Barclay Goodrow addition, look no further than Hagel, who has generated significant interest in Chicago. He recently whet everyone’s appetite with a hat trick against New Jersey, one of the teams that has been interested in him. Hagel has an outside shot at 30 goals this season. But it’s his contract and cost certainty that’s making teams drool. He is in first-round pick plus top prospect territory, which is understandable given the contract, his production and style of play. Provided that Davidson’s price is met, he’s a good bet to move.

6. Marc-Andre Fleury
Goaltender, Chicago Blackhawks
Age: 37
Contract: Pending UFA, $7 million AAV
Last Rank: 8th
Scoop: Marc-Andre Fleury wants to win. Pure and simple. His goal is believed to be to get to an authentic Stanley Cup contender that help get over the hump. Fleury also holds all of the cards, with both a 10-team no-trade list and a gentleman’s agreement with the Blackhawks that they’ll only send him where he wants to chase a Cup. Who needs a goaltender? Edmonton, Vegas, Washington and now … maybe Toronto? Vegas GM Kelly McCrimmon flatly refuted our report two weeks back, in which we relayed that the Golden Knights expressed interest in a potential reunion with Fleury. We stand by our reporting. It feels admittedly like a long shot that Fleury ends up back as the marquee headliner on the Vegas Strip, but stranger things have happened. Would Fleury entertain either the U.S. capital or the capital of Alberta? If not, what about the self-proclaimed center of the hockey universe?

8. Mark Giordano
Left Defense, Seattle Kraken
Age: 38
Contract: Pending UFA, $6.75 million AAV
Last Rank: 10th
Scoop: Interest is picking up in Giordano, who probably isn’t in first-round pick territory, but could net the Kraken a decent second-round return. You can bet that GM Ron Francis will want to help Giordano land in a preferred destination, somewhere he is comfortable and could help in a Stanley Cup chase. Officially, Giordano has input by submitting 19 teams to which he’d accept a trade. The Kraken also ideally may want to wait until a bit closer to the deadline because they don’t have many bodies playing in the AHL as a first-year franchise, especially if they are trading for futures.

Just curious, when is the last time a team either stood pat, or just did 1-2 depth moves (as in bottom pair D, backup goalie, or bottom 6 F) and won a cup?

I would look into Mrazek+ for Samsonov

Caps fans have seemed to sour on him, perhaps they would be interested in a more veteran Czech goalie to mentor Vanecek.
