If 34.16,88 and 91 can't score, Leafs are done. Even so, who is Dubas going to add that can at minimal money ?

Better to upgrade the D and keep the puck out of your net IMO.
When healthy our forward group looks to be pretty set as this, top 6 looks good:
Bunting - Matthews - Marner
Kerfoot - Tavares - Nylander

Bottom 6 is improved with Kase and a healthy Mikheyev, Simmonds is playing better this year as well.
Mikheyev - Kampf - Kase
Engvall - Spezza - Simmonds

Looks pretty good to me, there's room for improvement for sure in the bottom 6 but hard to make it work.

On D the obvious one is Holl in the top 4, can you find an upgrade there? Interesting thing with that pair is they are giving up tons of goals against (although much improved from the start of the year) but are actually driving offense pretty well making their overall impact decent, especially considering usage. Is that what we want from the "shut down" pair though?

Lawson Crouse should be our main target.

I'd move a 1st rounder + a high upside scoring forward like Robertson for him if Arizona is looking to sell.

He's a perfect fit for our roster.

I was thinking a 1st was too much for Crouse but then again, we gave up a 1st and 2 4ths for a broken down Foligno. I think he would be a great pickup as well but we need to upgrade the D first and foremost IMO.

Wishful thinking but Adam Larsson would be a real nice pickup and upgrade on Holl.

Holl, Robertson, 2nd for Larsson.

Rielly - Brodie
Sandin - Larsson
Muzzin - Liljegren

The team needs more grit. A couple of men who play hard, get their noses dirty and are willing to lay a hit to make a play.

There is so much talent in this team, but as we've learned, it's not enough.

There's a soft underbelly and as much as I desperately hope i'm wrong, I can only see it rearing it's ugly head again when it truly matters.

You are not wrong but be careful you might upset some with that 4 letter word, GRIT.

Lawson Crouse should be our main target.

I'd move a 1st rounder + a high upside scoring forward like Robertson for him if Arizona is looking to sell.

He's a perfect fit for our roster.

That's what many thought of Nick Ritchie. He's slid down the depth chart to the position of 13th forward and he has cleared waivers on a relatively mild contract.

Crouse does represent something a bit different with his defensive/PK acumen. That could be used on that third checking line and provide a harder presence to play against. Which could be helpful in a long post season run. They do have Mikheyev and Engvall for that role so he'd have actual competition for ice in Toronto.

But, in terms of value how can Nick Ritchie clear waivers and Lawson Crouse be worth a 1st round pick + an A level prospect? I get that he plays for Arizona and he can be fed more minutes than he'd get anywhere else and they don't have to move him, because he's under control past this season, so he's being more productive offensively and they hold a good amount of leverage. From that point of view I can see why Crouse is more valuable then Ritchie right now. But, there probably isn't that much difference in the quality of player, they're pretty good comparables. If Ritchie was eating Crouse's minutes in Arizona, he'd probably have a few more points and he'd be a hot ticket around the league.

They hit and fight at similar amounts, Ritchie is generally better offensively, Crouse is more useful defensively. Without recency bias and leverage their value should be pretty similar.

Rousel impressed me last night also before he was injured with the Nucks, he might be a good TDL pickup.
I can imagine having him on the 3rd line with Kampf and Kase, that would be a true pest line.

I mean... we also have Kerfoot, Bunting, Mikheyev, Spezza, Kase... pretty solid support group. Frankly I'm not concerned at all about scoring.
I'd prefer Mik swapped out with someone else. I can't forgive him for his play against the jackets and habs. These are supposed to be warm up teams yet he can't keep up. Pathetic. After 5 first round losses I don't have it in me to trust him to suddenly become a playoff warrior after demonstrating nothing to give him any benefit of the doubt. Looked scared when Habs increased their intensity and was just a total mess against the jackets. He's one of the slowest on the team once playoffs come around. Like in Avengers when Hulk is too scared to come out and fight. Miks legs head out and say bye until the regular season comes around again.

If we need more grit / playoff sand paper, Miks position is an entry point to target and he frees up enough cap to bring in a bottom 6 guy. This will be a comment that gets mad hate but stanley cup trumps making friends.

I like Mikheyev but I do agree with this. He has just simply not lived up to any expectations when the post season begins and tends to disappear. If we make a change in our forward group, Mikheyev is probably the one I’d look at upgrading on.

Who is Crouse bumping out of the top 9?

Kerfoot, Bunting, Soup seem fair for that left side. And paying prime assets for a guy to play on the 4th line seems like a waste

Especially when you already have Engvall and Ritchie...

To Toronto: Travis Sanheim
To Philadelphia: 1st Round Draft Pick, Travis Dermott, Roni Hirvonen, Nick Ritchie

Sanheim even though a lefty can play the right side.

If Marner doesn't get the yips for the 3rd year in a row we're likely sick without any acquisitions.

JT Miller is likely available.

Miller, Giroux, or Pavelski would be the type of additions that make a difference in the top 6. Not sure how affordable these players are though.

I'm high on JT Miller, ticks a lot of boxes but his cap hit would be tough to manage next season. Unless VAN retains but that will cost a premium.

Wish we had a do over on that Expansion Draft and just kept McCann. Would've provided us with some extra scoring punch.

the depth this season seems to be a lot better than in previous seasons. Simmer and Spezz are in proper roles for their age/ability and there aren't corpses like Jumbo and stiffs like Vesey and Gally sucking up important ice time.

I think if we’re going to trade a 1st plus a Robertson or Amirov I prefer it being for a Top 4 dman. I don’t think the leafs have the assets and cap space to get both a top 4 dman and a top 6 LW. It’s either one or the other and I prefer top 4 dman.

Who are some forwards in the minors/waiver ineligible players that we could acquire for depth that won’t count against the cap?

JT Miller with 50% retention for two playoff runs is worth giving up a top prospect. That’s a move I wouldn’t mind if the Leafs slightly overpaid for.

Please don’t waste picks/prospects on another Foligno.
