Appears grass isn’t always greener

I think the leafs should target Lindholm from Anaheim. Apparently if he isn't signed close to the deadline the ducks will move him. Because they are in a playoff spot they still need to compete, so maybe a package of a 1st plus Muzzin, Amirov and a 2nd for Lindholm and comtois could work. Lindholm would have to want to resign with us for this to work.

Not really, you notice the offense Bit?

Looks somewhat different to me

Ya, but we aren’t relying on Holl offensively and there’s no way in hell Holl is statistically that strong offensively outside of Keefes possession system.

Did you also notice how most of those other guys were no better defensively as well?

Besides Liljegren

I'm telling you guys Justin Braun or Ilya Lyubushkin would be a good additions. They're maybe not as sexy as some other names that have been mentioned but they won't cost a lot, and they're great defensively. Braun has also proven this season that he can play top 4 minutes.

Compare those defensive metrics to the players posted previously.

Braun is the guy we should chase if we are going to run a shutdown pair
Those defensive metrics are pretty

I wouldn't chase Lyubushkin, those metrics are good but it's as depth, that's what Liljegren is doing as depth so I'd rather just use Liljegren

Leafs can't finish, which means we will still have fans on here making trades for gritty players who can't finish as well.

Can’t help but think that having some better skating and puck moving on defense would supercharge the offense. We need a point shot threat and someone to distribute the puck at the top of the umbrella to pull apart those static net front defenses.

We're top-10 in goals scored.
Playoff scoring is clearly an issue though, and getting "goalied" by bad teams and bad goalies again like we did last night is only going to amplify those concerns.

2.33GF/GP the last two playoffs, shutout in back to back elimination games (practically, one garbage time goal last year)

In comparison, the back to back champs are at 3.17GF/GP

Holland is desperate...then again...oilers are desperate to keep mcdavid prolly. because holy shit what a fiesta....kind of reminds me of tavares winger rotations.

More grit will indirectly lead to more goals. Attrition is everything in the playoffs. As bruises pile up (mostly on the D), the more Matthews and the big boys will put the puck in the net. For example, a team like the Avs might be in trouble by the second or third round if a gritty team forechecks their D hard.

Everyone has seen the numbers when the big 4 put up points at the same time. It's pretty much a 80% points percentage. They need soldiers in depth roles crashing and banging the D for them while they rest on the bench. We need good young grit added to the team for the playoff run. If it's grit for the sake of grit then yeah I'd pass. Adding another Simmonds won't do anything, too old to rely upon for a deep playoff run.

If we're talking a guy like Crouse, bring him in yes. I'm sure they have a list of guys worked out, Dubas knows what I'm saying.

I'm cautious of deadline acquisitions in which grit is a primary motivator.

You can acquire a career grit player/leader who has years of hard miles like Foglino.

You can acquire a younger grit player who can bang in 10-15 goals a year and end up with Ritchie, Michael Ferland.

Players like Josh Anderson or Tom Wilson aren't a realistic target, cost aside you can't find them.

Crouse seems promising, but is the big player premium worth paying if there is a Taylor Hall available for a 2nd?

Of course, Matty had a wrist injury last playoffs that required surgery, and Tavares was out... They accounted for 1/3 of our scoring in the regular season. You lose 1/3 of your scoring, you are in trouble.

2.57 GF/GP last year against Montreal
2.00 GF/GP against Columbus

You can always find excuses, but scoring has been an issue, much more than goals against. Of course we've played against anemic offenses and quite frankly pretty bad hockey teams the last two years so not giving up a lot against isn't really that much of an accomplishment.

Yes, you can always find excuses... point being, we scored 2.57 GF/GP, last year, missing 1/3rd of our scoring production. I don't think scoring is a weakness of this team, nor is it a reason to expect losses going forward.
