I know one thing, they went 3-6-3 against team currently in the playoff hunt. 3-6-3 bud
How many teams in the playoffs did the leafs beat? 3? Are you only counting the first 3 games in November?

I'm not sure why some posters are freaking out about the idea of upgrading this team, if it means Chychrun or Kane. Oh well the Leafs lost to a top 5 team, etc etc. Well guess what, when we're in the playoffs, in order to succeed you need to beat those teams 4 times. I could care less how many times we've beaten Montreal or Ottawa and the lesser teams in the league. It's about how we've been against Stanley Cup caliber teams, and it hasn't been phenomenal. If you can upgrade your team with a player like Kane for a playoff run, improve your defense with someone like Chychrun, you do it 100% of the time.
Panthers are in on Chiarot so they definitely agree with you. Rivals going straight for the guy who shut down Marner since you know, they will most likely be facing Marner.

By the trade deadline Dubas needs to restrict the league to 6 teams. Us, Tampa, Florida, last wild card team coming along for the ride (with our history we need to treat them like they're Florida), ECF and SCF. If people are fine rolling with our current second pairing in this restricted league, I really don't know what to say.

32 Thoughts mentions an exec. from an Eastern Conference team bet Friedman that Lawson Crouse would end up playing for the Lightning this season.

Both Tampa and Boston linked to Crouse. Can't lie, would hate to see that. I'd pay a lot to bring him in. He's a young, prime version of what people want Ritchie to be.

The assets used for Foligno could have easily pulled a Bennett/Crouse with term. Tough.

Oh boy. I get why the Leafs fans get so much hate and laughed at. The leafs have a winning record so far.

Yep, sure do. 21 games played against teams out of the playoff race.

3-6-3 against teams in the current playoff race.

Think they can win a playoff race against Tampa (defending cup champions), Florida (powerhouse). Pittsburg likely to pass us in the standings and we will be in a wild card race.

The leafs only seem to be focused on the playoff race and not beating one team in particular because all signs lead us to play them in the first round.

This is not a gloom and doom post. Its about realistic evaluation of this team which is seriously flawed and most people can't see that until Tampa puts the Leafs out in the first round again. Tampa is built to win in the playoffs, they have the experience of winning, they are cup champions. Dubas has your team cash strapped with not much he can do. Sign Kane, get rid of Holl, Engvall and Kerfoot. Bring in another good D man. Thats a start. And if Marner chokes in the playoffs, maybe time to move him too in the off season.

Have fun with that.

How? Dubas is already rumored to have interest in Chychrun and Kane and the list will most likely grow. He had half our D on the trading block at one point. Just because a random poster doesn't want to make trades doesn't mean the Leafs also don't want to.

No matter how well the team is doing you should always want to get better
Tampas consistant run should be the goal

Contending teams always try to improve at the deadline yes, that’s an obvious. But please tell me which contending team blew up their team in trying to improve it at the deadline? People wanting Kerfoot, Muzzin, Holl, Mrazek, etc traded won’t happen. The off-season is where more trades and movement happen.

Trading any of these is blowing up the team?
Kerfoot name is out only because he has value
Muzzin is declining as expected
Others are average players easily replaced

u didn’t name any of the big boys??? That’s because trading them would be blowing up the roster and no one has suggested that I don’t think
Top teams have their core
And try as best they can to improve supporting cast

Leafs - Coyotes
Lawson Crouse
for
Nick Ritchie & 1st

Leafs - Islanders
Scott Mayfield
for
Travis Dermott & 2nd

Playoffs (Rotate LW'ers)
Crouse - Matthews - Marner
Bunting - Tavares - Nylander
Mikheyev - - Kampf - - Kase
Kerfoot - Spezza - Simmonds

Rielly - - - - Brodie
Muzzin - Mayfield
Sandin - - Liljigren

Campbell
Mrazek

My two moves to prep this team for the playoffs and clear cap for next year:

Subban @ 50% for Holl + Ritchie + 1st + whatever sweetener(s) needed (equal cap hit in/out)

We all know this is isnt prime PK but could he bring a needed intensity, something Holl simply cannot bring. Seems to be having a decent year with the Devils.

Holtby+ for Mrazek (saves 1.8mil, frees up an extra roster spot)

Bring in a guy who has been there and can support Campbell, and potentially perform in the playoffs if needed. Gives Stars a 1b to pair with Oettinger next year.

Trust in the forward group its on them to perform.

Bunting - Matthews - Marner
Kerfoot - Tavares - Nylander
Mikheyev - Kampf - Kase
Engvall - Spezza - Simmonds
Clifford

Rielly - Brodie
Muzzin - Subban
Sandin - Liljegren/Dermott

Campbell
Holtby

Yeah, would be nice to buy low on a high risk/reward guy while their value is low. Doubt we win a bidding war for Crouse now that he's scoring again. Could always target another young struggling player that's lost some shine. Kubalik, Vilardi, Hayton, Kravtsov, Glass, Myers, Jokiharju, Yamamoto etc.

why? why would u want a guy who has regressed, and simply cannot keep up anymore, he slewfoots because he is a step behind the play... no thanks to this

Kubalik is one to keep an eye on, there's a player there. Chicago may be giving him away at some point, not sure he would be worth them qualifying especially with Strome and Dach needing to be signed.

Kane would be a great add without giving up anything. I mean we gave up so much for Foligno and he did jack

Kane still a solid power forward. Not since Gary Roberts we had a power forward. Something we have been lacking for so long

Don’t know if anyone follows the AJHL but there’s a defenceman who broke Cale makars points record. Hope he’s available to us in the draft.

...Anyway...what about trading for Giordano? Has anyone seen many Seattle games this year? Is he completely washed or can he still contribute - seems to be logging decent minutes on Seattle with ok numbers, and he's comfortable playing on the right side.

I'd also be interested in Hadyn Fleury, who doesn't seem to be in their plans, or even Jamie Oleksiak, but he might be too expensive with the Muzzin situation unresolved.

Also, how urgent is it that we get rid of Petr Mrazek this offseason? If it's a flat cap, I wonder how easy it will be to get rid of a guy with 2 years left and not a lot of play time under his belt. What are the realistic clubs who will want him?

I'd just hate to get caught flat footed on this one and end up losing some combination of Campbell, Mikheyev and Kase as a result or have to pay a premium for someone to take his contract.

If the Leafs falter in the playoffs again, I'm moving Marner to Columbus for Kent Johnson, Ceulmans and a 1st Round Pick.

Sign Hertl to a 6yr/7.5 million, move Tavares to the wing and you now have 3 million in cap space with 2 first round picks, 2 solid prospects

Is Menell healthy and available? Just wondering cause he does have a little more experience than Lilly and is a natural right hander.

Seeing Crouse go to another team in the division. On one hand he could be breaking though and becoming that top 6 power forward that’s desired.

On the other hand, he could just be benefitting from getting prime minutes on a bad Coyotes team and he may not be as impactful on a better team like the Leafs.

And for the cost, is that worth it? He’d have to work his way into the top 6 .. Bunting and Kerfoot have played well in their roles this season.

The third line has been fairly effective too.

Gios agent just threw up major smoke signals to Calgary.

So it might not be gio after all
