Sounds like Kane will be signing with a new team by weeks end according to Insiders.
Is Menell healthy and available? Just wondering cause he does have a little more experience than Lilly and is a natural right hander.
I don't have much interest in messing with:
Bunting-Matthews-Marner
Kerfoot-Tavares-Nylander
Mikheyev-Kämpf-Kaše
The third line has it's role, and it does it exceptionally well. Most trade ideas I see are centered around Top 6 LW, but both Bunting and Kerfoot are exceeding expectations - they've been fantastic.
Trading a 1st + or whatever for a player with name value is a good marketing move maybe, but would just be a waste of assets in an attempt to look great on paper. Like in Kerfoot's case especially, I don't know what more you'd want out of your 2LW
Kane really wouldn't fit well with Matthews/Marner. Think of him as a better version of Kapanen. He's good at driving forward with a north/south game, and demands possession of the puck/shoots a ton. The players most effective with Matthews/Marner tend to be guys who just forecheck hard, lay the puck off to them, make simple plays, and stand in front of the net. He's a weird player in that he's probably best suite to drive a 3rd line on a contender, since his style of play doesn't really compliment high-skill guys. While I agree that our top 9 is good to great, if you can add Kane for the remainder of the season for course to league minimum then it suddenly makes our top 9 close to being the best in the league. Not to mention, having one of Mikheyev or Bunting on our 4th line is some serious depth.

I don't think the Leafs would do this, I think a Marner trade they would want developed assets back.If the Leafs falter in the playoffs again, I'm moving Marner to Columbus for Kent Johnson, Ceulmans and a 1st Round Pick.
Sign Hertl to a 6yr/7.5 million, move Tavares to the wing and you now have 3 million in cap space with 2 first round picks, 2 solid prospects

Columbus would pass for sure. Johnson is the key piece to their rebuild. Ceulmans and that 1st are also key pieces. I just don't think that franchise is in a position to do that after losing Dubois and a bunch of assets trying to make a failed push a couple years ago.
Columbus trading for him this summer makes sense, play him for a year at under a mil in cash and flip him to a contender at 50% for more than they paid for him.
Oh boy. I get why the Leafs fans get so much hate and laughed at. The leafs have a winning record so far.
Yep, sure do. 21 games played against teams out of the playoff race.
3-6-3 against teams in the current playoff race.
Think they can win a playoff race against Tampa (defending cup champions), Florida (powerhouse). Pittsburg likely to pass us in the standings and we will be in a wild card race.
The leafs only seem to be focused on the playoff race and not beating one team in particular because all signs lead us to play them in the first round.
This is not a gloom and doom post. Its about realistic evaluation of this team which is seriously flawed and most people can't see that until Tampa puts the Leafs out in the first round again. Tampa is built to win in the playoffs, they have the experience of winning, they are cup champions. Dubas has your team cash strapped with not much he can do. Sign Kane, get rid of Holl, Engvall and Kerfoot. Bring in another good D man. Thats a start. And if Marner chokes in the playoffs, maybe time to move him too in the off season.
Have fun with that.
Plz stop with the Kane nonsense, there’s little to no chance this front office even entertains the idea. While I agree that our top 9 is good to great, if you can add Kane for the remainder of the season for course to league minimum then it suddenly makes our top 9 close to being the best in the league. They should very much consider it. It makes no sense to me that there are different rules for the Leafs than for other teams. Why should we be okay with Tampa adding Kane but not the Leafs? Because we are afraid of what morons like Damien Cox and Steve Simmons will say?Plz stop with the Kane nonsense, there’s little to no chance this front office even entertains the idea.

To each their own. There isn't different rules - that's a false narrative. There are 100% other teams who've already decided to go nowhere near Kane. If TB wants to weaken the chemistry of their team by inserting Kane, then we should let them.
What part of he's a piece of shit is hard to figure out? No one (players) wants him on their team. He's locker room poison.
There aren’t different rules but certainly a much brighter spotlight here. I personally could not care less what Tampa does. They should very much consider it. The only reason I mentioned Tampa is because we would likely need to go through them. Same with Panthers. There aren’t different rules but certainly a much brighter spotlight here. I personally could not care less what Tampa does.
Adding players is never a guarantee of anything, it could help or it could backfire. I imagine the Leafs will add some players as well. The only reason I mentioned Tampa is because we would likely need to go through them. Same with Panthers.
I wouldn't be thrilled to see Tampa/Florida adding Kane for a mill knowing we likely need to play one of them in the first round.
All good points.Adding players is never a guarantee of anything, it could help or it could backfire. I imagine the Leafs will add some players as well.
If the Leafs put together the best team they can they shouldn't need to worry about others. At this point if they're worried that they can't beat anyone then they haven't done a very good job.
Personally I can't see him having any interest in coming here. I would assume either of the Florida teams would be front runners. All good points.
I think adding Kane would make them a better team (on paper). Obviously, there are a lot of variables that come with him. I do like that they would be able to add him cheap and would not have to give up assets.
I guess what I'm saying is I hope the Leafs are at the very least looking into it if some of our rivals are as well.
Unless he hates playing in Edmonton, Kane and the Oilers make a good match. Oilers desperate to turn it around and Kane would benefit huge playing with 97 or 29. Leafs are not desperate enough to sign a player with so much baggage. Hell they may never be so desperate.
Oilers seem the right kinda desperate to ignore the Kane baggage.
I still have a hunch it’ll be Vegas
