Ritchie started off horribly (and has looked somewhat better over the last 3-4 games) but I don't think we should discount that he might be exactly what we need on a 4th line come playoff time.

If we can dump his salary in a way that makes sense I'm all for it but it wouldn't be the end of the world if we had him on the 4th line come playoff time. Obviously, not what you want from 2.5 mill AAV though.

Really wish we made that Johnsson plus Dermott for Weegar trade few years ago. The guy is on fire.

Rielly Brodie
Muzzin Weegar
Sandin Holl
Lilly

that looks really good to me

It would have been nice, yet it seems it was actually Florida who turned that trade down.

100% but I'll never be surprised at what a manager of the Arizona Coyotes can do... and it's usually not good. Hayton just looks like someone that needs a fresh start *somewhere* and it's possible they sell relatively high on him if something comes up that makes sense. His numbers are... bad.

Lyub and Crouse for Holl and Engvall is a decent chunk of cap savings without downgrading the team that much. Unlikely the Coyotes have interest in something like that... unless they get Holl to re-flip at the deadline for pure picks? If Chiarot might fetch a 1st...

That is true. They are definitely unpredictable down there.

Maybe we should trade Holl somewhere for a first and then trade it or ours for a major upgrade. Still want Lyubushkin and Crouse though.

Would you pay a 1st for Holl?
I mean I wouldn't, and in saying that I like him way more than most of the fanbase does. At the same time, GMs tend to love RHD who can PK. Also being $2M with some slight term. That will likely have GMs more excited to trade for him than HF fans. That being said, a 1st is a stretch, but I would not be surprised with a 2nd+ given what NHL GMs value and how they operate.

If you can move Ritchie, and acquire Crouse... sure... but then, what is Crouse going to ask for on his next contract? He's at 0.5PPG right now, and might end up asking for $3-4 million, which would be difficult to afford, unless he really worked out well, and we moved Kerfoot... but that's a lot of "if's".

I'd ask about Comtois as well.. but then Ducks would be foolish to give up on him.

Wouldn't pay a first for him either.

He's going to get it.. but I'd rather target a younger version of Chiarot... someone you could keep longer term. Chiarot is probably worth that, but then we can't afford to resign him... we'd need someone we could have for more than a rental, to give up those kind of assets.

He has been great a lot longer than the past 3 or 4 games. He has been great for much of the last 17 games the Leafs have played well after he was taken away from bad Marner.

I once seen someone trade a 1st++ for an injured, rental 30+ year old Nick Foligno.

Deadline day is a lot like the opening of FA frenzy, everyone is overpaying.
IMO, if Holl is still here by the deadline he isn't leaving.

Ondrej Kase was acquired for a 1st at the 2020 deadline as well. The deadline, as you mentioned is a scary place.

I hope the Leafs make moves before the deadline this year. Deadline prices can be wild.

Ritchie for Johan Larsson straight up. Allows us to keep both Liljergren and Dermott on the roster with an extra forward. Even Ritchie for someone like Derek Grant would work.

interesting idea. even if a guy is useless, trading Ritchie for a ~$1.5m player (even if he's no good) might free up our roster enough and be get another team to bite.

Also might hurt Dubas' rep a bit if he's trading away recent recent UFA's, that's something he cares about & uses to his advantage.

Agree there's a chance Ritchie will be something they need come playoff time, I think he'll have his moments.

Mikhayev in his 1st practice. Mrazak on conditioning. Leafs you have to think will have to make a move of some sort in the next few days.

I would bet Mikheyev ends up getting sent to the Marlies for a conditioning stint, to give them a few more games, as well as to get him into game shape.

I thought chemistry is more important than the extra cap space or upgrade though. Seems to have some pretty good chemistry with linemates.

The Red Wings just waived a player, but I think we should avoid him like the Clague

Not that I think he's going to make it to us, but we should be in on Clague if he does. I simply don't understand what LA doesn't like about him, especially on a rebuilding team.

Means we might be able to get Holl out of town even sooner!

He made it through waivers once already this year.

He is an interesting project, but I am not sure it is really one for us... Especially as a 7th defenseman. Maybe if we have a really good deal to take for Holl or Dermott right now, we could try him out as a #7 and if he doesn't work out, then we can just acquire one at the TDL.

Or if he makes it through and LA is done with him altogether, which I doubt, we could prospect swap for him.
