14 points in 30 games in his 18 year old season. Thought he was a massive reach early in the 3rd round. Who knows though, could develop better in the NCAA, but at that point, he'll be UFA eligible and could sign with anyone if he wants to.

We were all disappointed with both the trade up and the pick. San Jose has a horrific drafting pattern in 3rd rounds.

The Sharks' 3rd round draft history is historically, horrifically bad. You would likely have a Cup if the 3rd round drafting was merely decent.

Hopefully Gushchin gets a full time shot next year, but doesn't strike me as a Grier/Quinn type.

Svoboda has been underwhelming in the NCAA but was great in the World Junior playing his role extremely well. Interested to see where he goes in his development
He hasn’t been that underwhelming in the NCAA. I think it’s more that his point totals are probably always going to look underwhelming (unless he finds a shooting percentage bender) because his puck skills are mediocre.

He’s not going to light up a stat sheet, but has a reliable defensive game with size, good face offs, good speed, and grit. He’s a 4C prospect and could 4C his way all the way to the NHL.

I wouldn’t have picked him for the WJC team, but he did well enough in what was asked of him.
