Both Nemec and Mercer would be untouchable. And with their cap situation, Holtz might even be close to untouchable due to his ELC value.

In a Hellebuyck deal with NJ, I’d ask for:
- Holtz,
- 1 of their goalies (probably Vanecek due to his salary and age - Jersey would move the more expensive one), and
- a high 2024 or 2025 pick (1st or 2nd).

Maybe we try to add a d prospect, not named Hughes or Nemec.

That might be the best we can do.

I pretty much say Mercer or nemec plus your goalie and call me when you agree. I don't think NJ is the only team we can trade him to as a rental. Wonder if Columbus might be interested. Jiricek looks like he can play and they appear to not have a spot for him

We're gonna have some disappointed fans if we're expecting recent top 5 picks in return for an over 30 goaltender.

Not sure what they are after but I'd do that kind of move if available. Makes trading Helle for a more well rounded package more tenable.

But do you swing for the fences using up available assets that can help get you there and grab Helle. Or do you just try your luck in FA and grab Hill, a goalie who actually has a cup ring? I'd imagine all 32 GMs would try for the later before circling back.
I think 99% of the goalies in the league would have a cup ring if they were playing in the Vegas net. Vegas D kept the front of the net clean ... Helle would have double digits shutouts with that Vegas' D.

What about Helle + Heinola for Vanecek, Holtz, Bahl, 25 1st Rd

Schiefele, Stanley, 24 3rd Rd, 25 2nd Rd to Bruins for DeBrusk, Carlo, Lysell + 26 1st Rd

Everyone wants to be the team that has enough offensive depth to compensate for an average goalie, but I would expect the majority just end up being sunk by said average goaltending (eg. EDM, TO, etc.).

You will never get a call back. More likely they hang up on Chevy for even proposing Mercer or Nemec be in the deal. Having top young players on ELCs are the Devils best chance at a cup there is no way they give them up. Even if Chevy offered to pay half of Helly's next contract the Devils aren't including either of those players in the trade.

Yeah a solid defence helps but it goes to show that there is more than one way to build a cup contender. You don't need to spend $10m on a goalie to do it and I think teams are hyper aware of that right now.

Some team might give him that as a free agent as long as he wasn’t particular where he plays. Not many contenders will give up valuable assets and then have to pay him as a free agent.

I think NJ and Buffalo are both interested if they don't land something in FA but the trouble is I think both will likely have their pick of the litter.

I think if all you are getting is rental like prices for Helle, than just hang onto him. Somebody's goaltending will go to absolute crap and he will still have value. Remember there is nothing more frustrating about hockey then when you have a great team but your goaltender can't stop anything as you tumble down the standings in a Eastern Conference that is completely unforgiving.

Detroit, Ottawa, and Buffalo all want to take that next step as a franchise and have some tenured GM's that know their young cores might need some stability. All of these teams are in the same tough division and it just is impossible for probably 2 of them to make the playoffs.

Then you have the likes of Edmonton, Toronto, Los Angeles, New Jersey, and even Carolina. You want me to believe none of these teams will inquire with the Jets about Hellebuyck during the season? Lol come on.

I think that is a pretty good framework. Although I think I'm leaning towards preferring Casey over Holtz as the prospect piece. He's small, but a very good skating RHD which I think we could really use in the system.

Well the buyout window ends today for wheeler so it's now or never on that front but it doesn't look like there is much of a trade market for him so not sure what the orgs plan is here.

I do wonder if the additions of Vilardi, Iaffalo and Kupari has maybe changed the view of some of the guys in the room now. We didn't get as hurt by the Dubois trade as badly as many thought and managed to get a solid top 6 RW, Middle 6 LW and versatile bottom 6 speedster with some upside. We sacrificed a top 6 C but managed to shore up 3 potential spots in the forward group. Perhaps some of the guys want to stick around now.

I really like Dubois as a player but why do I feel the kings got worse ? Our return is unreal.

The Kings have a tonne of forward depth but really needed an upgrade at C and likely were pretty desperate to have something in place for the eventual retirement of Kopitar. Losing Vilardi hurt but I don't think they miss a beat replacing the other guys internally.

They now have perhaps one of the best C depth groups in the league, although if Kopitar declines at any point it drops off hard.

Yeah and with the comments by Chevy on Cole it sounds like he will be first in line to replace PLD in the middle. It may actually give us a stronger forward core if we can add another middle 6 forward.

How come I never hear of Toronto as a possible dance partner for Hellebuyck? All they would need to do is get a little creative to open cap space. The have historically loved overpaying for elderly talent, and I have heard time and time again how they were a good goalie away from the Stanley Cup.

Yeah it seems like the top 6 has at least 5 set in stone spots, provided Scheif stays

Connor - Scheif - Ehlers
X - Perfetti - Vilardi

Iafallo is pretty likely to be in that 2LW spot as he already has some chemistry with Vilardi and can do some of the heavy lifting for that line. Lowry likely anchors the 3rd line with Nino and then the remaining spots are probably an open audition from the likes of Kupari, Barron, Apples, Stenlund and Gus. With a very outside shot that Lambert or Lucius takes a spot.

I think a decently sized two-way forward that can move up into 2LW and more likely hang out with Lowry and Nino on 3LW would be an ideal add. But it is also interesting to just see what we have.

I think they may have some interest in him as a rental. But with the rumours of Helle not wanting to play in Canada anymore, he might have no want to sign there.
