The best players in junior tend to be put at center and then there's only so many center spots to go around in the NHL. A lot of it is right place and right time when an opportunity is available.
Fewer opportunities means that players will end up playing out of position and need to make the most of it which is why a lot of players end up converted to wings. It's really no different than Team Canada ending up with 9 centers on their Olympic roster.

It’s UFA day - the time of year when Chevy gets a backup goalie and press box fodder! I have a feeling we’re going to get Laurent Brossoit and call it a day.

Laurent Brossoit is not a good goalie. His technique/happy feet would get lit up over a bigger grouping of games without Vegas absolutely suffocating any offence coming against them.

I've always liked Brossoit. I still think he would be a decent backup who you could say I'm giving you 25-32 games on the year.

If we don't keep Helle, this are some of the goalies I'd want.

Vanecek - in a trade with NJ for Helle

Swayman/Ullmark - if there is a deal with Schiefele involved

Hart - my #1 goalie I'd love to get somehow

Korpisalo - as a decent stop-gap for 2 years

Jarry - if worst case scenario

Raanta - great backup who I'd love to have here

For a stop gap, I would offer Varlamov a 2 x 5.5m deal.

Raanta = the Mark Stone of LTIR for goalies. Maybe you get him for a few games… but probably just the playoffs…
