How does Kucherov have stronger Art Rosses over better competition? The gap between Malkin and the rest of the NHL was larger in points per game and actual points despite missing 7 games, and that’s against the 2nd-5th-10th-30th scorers not just the immediate top end.
Because McDavid has been the competition and he's better than arguably anyone Malkin ever played against.

I'm not saying peak Kucherov is on peak McDavid level, i'm saying peak Kucherov is on normal McDavid level. So when the previous poster said peak Malkin was on Crosby's level, I interpreted as peak Malkin = normal Crosby level, not peak Crosby. Because if you think peak Malkin is at peak Crosby get outta here.

Peak Malkin is definitely close to peak Crosby. And his ‘12 is better than any of Crosby’s full seasons and ‘09 is the best playoffs between them.

I wish we lived in the true alternate reality where Malkin had a healthy career and was widely viewed as the best of that generation’s Big Three.

I feel like it’s been long forgotten that through 2011-2012, his trophy case and accolades dwarfed Crosby’s:

1 Hart apiece with two additional second place finishes to Crosby’s one third place finish

1 Pearson/Lindsay apiece

2 Art Rosses to 1

1 Conn Smythe to 0

3 First-Team All-Star nods to 1

Completely different archetypes. peak Malkin is like an absolute force of nature, while peak Kucherov is more of a quiet background influencer.

I think that Malkin's impact was more intuitively felt, and most people would probably say that it's him by their gut feeling.

Overall, probably him but close because I think Malkin offered more overall, beyond points.

I wonder where Kucherov would have been without Point at his peak, just like as others mentioned Geno didn't have the best wingers. Kuch is phenomenal, don't get me wrong, but I can't help but wonder if he would still rack up so many apples without someone like Stamkos or Point next to him, and if he could be relied upon to fight his way through defenses like Geno could. Agreed it's close for sure and I love them both, but I think I'd pick Malkin as slightly better again due to his ability to handle checkers due to his stature.

Kucherov hasn't had that margin because he has better competition.
They expect Kuch to beat McDavid & Mackinnon like Malkin beat Stamkos back in 2012 🤣🤣🤣
They forgot that Kuch had 144 points and his closest teammate Point had only 90 points... 54 points less basically 😂

You can exclude them and Malkin’s season was still more dominant against every other player in the NHL, from the 2nd, 3rd, 4th to 600th scorer. Same holds true for his best playoff run, and he had worse linemates than Kucherov in each scenario by a longshot. Add to that he’s much better puck carrier, forechecked, backchecker, body checker, puck thief, etc., There’s no smoke and mirrors here, Malkin appeared to be the better player at his best because he was.
