alright. my oh six hundred trade of the day.

Connor Hellebuyck (25% retained), Logan Stanley

for

Alexander Holtz, Akira Schmid, Vitek Vanecek, #58 pick

Schmid's the value goalie here, Vanecek is value neutral at $3.4m but him and the $1.5m retained keeps NJD's cap space for Mercer and any others they need to sign. Seems fair. Odd that NJD would trade away three goalies in three days, but they'll sign a back up. Think they have another prospect around too - Daws(?).

Competent top 6-9 fwds are going for nothing. Imo think that's where the Rangers will be dabbling in
They do have some pieces that would be god fits for us. They do have Zib and Trocheck, but I guess you can't have too many centres.

Current UFA goalies with more than 20GP last season and SV% above 0.900 ( age )

Joonas Korpisalo - 18-14-1 - 2.87 0.914 (29)
Adin Hill - 16-7-0 - 2.50 0.914 (27)
Semyon Varlamov - 11-9-2 - 2.70 0.913 (35)
Antti Raanta - 19-3-4 - 2.23 0.910 (34)
Tristan Jarry - 24-13-2 - 2.90 0.910 (28)
Alex Stalock - 9-15-2 - 3.01 0.908 (35)
Frederik Andersen - 21-11-1 - 2.48 0.903 (33)
Jaroslav Halak - 10-9-1 - 2.73 0.903 (38)
David Rittich - 9-8-0 - 2.68 0.901 (30)

Other mentionable

Laurent Brossoit - 7-0-0 - 2.17 0.927 (30)
Alex Lyon - 9-4-1 - 2.89 0.912 (30)
This makes the market for Helle lok really strong actually... let's ask for two 1sts, a player and a prospect...

Heard the TSN panel talking about this and Dreger seemed to think there's interest in Helle, but only if retained. Likely cap strapped teams that feel he could help next year.
Retained is fine with me if they throw in another prospect

NJD still makes sense because trading Vanecek as part of the deal is your salary dump but also works for the Jets until another option is found

I think you have to push for Mercer or Nemec - basically straight up with VV as a throw-in

if I'm NJD, I'd do it especially after this playoff disaster - then hope that Holtz emerges as your top 6 RW

Corey Perry traded to Chicago
Chicago's roster strategy is confusing to say the least...

I'd push for Nemec but I don't see it if NJD don't think they could re-sign Hellebuyck. I don't think Mercer would be available for almost anyone.

Chicago is trying to bring in forwards that can insulate Bedard on and off the ice. Hall as a still good but former 1st overall pick and Hart winner. Perry as a grizzled vet who is also a past Hart winner.
Pittsburgh did the same the year Crosby started with them.

Toews is a far better 'insulator' than Perry... that's more my point

I mean take a look at that roster and explain the strategy - you want a superstar learning habits from Hall and Johnson? Looks like a top 6 that will just teach Bedard how to cheat offensively

I'd flip Hall and Johnson (or some money laundering combo) to Arizona for Keller

Two players acquired for basically nothing for Arizona's leading scorer. Ya where do they sign up.

With all the upcoming UFAs on our roster, I imagine we'll be pretty flush with some extra 1sts and 2nds in the 2024 draft.

I know he is poor defensively but i wonder if we go after domi as a center option incase perfetti/vilardi can't take the spot

NJ can't pay everyone 8 million per
NJ fan here. ha cap space goes quickly. But I don't think they'd want to go more than 6.5 for him and probably no more than 4 years max. Great goalie, but 30, and the last 2 goalies to win were HIll, Kuemper and if you skip Vasilievsky, you have Murrray, Binnington to name a few. Very few teams get there with 8+M goalies and you don't need to. Certainly at 30 years old.

Well said. The guy obvious values getting paid more than winning.

In addition - I see some trade proposals above. I don't know what NJ offers for him tbh. It's not the top tier prospects, even if they sign him. I think the prospect tops out at Holtz, not bad value, Vanecek and that might be it...Holtz/Vanecek - not sure they want to move a first unless another player from WPG is added.

I mean, who knows. Anchors are negotiation are helpful.
