There are so many UFA goalies that you'll probably get some more bites on Hellebuyck after some teams miss out.

Not a fan of this strategy as if successful would leave us with a very depleted pool of potential replacements. Also, no one on the goalie UFA list is on the same tier as Helly. You'd have to think there is a team that to go into the season with goalie as a position of strength.

A little nugget of info from Chevy when talking about Barlow last night: Jets first-rounder Colby Barlow brings character to go along with scoring prowess

"... I talked to (Scheifele’s) representatives as well over the course of the last couple of days and told them, look we’re listening, but obviously it’s got to make sense for the Jets because these are good players and these players can help us win,”

Sounds like they're exploring trading both Chef and Helle, but they're playing waiting for the right deal, similar to PLD.

Makes me wonder if Chef wants out?

Also sounded like a Wheeler buyout, but only if they can't do a trade.

Thay was my thinking as well but if teams aren't offering value for him then you really don't have much choice.

I think Chevy juat needs to target his guy and go get him and deal with Helle as the market dictates.

We'll be one of those teams though if it goes that long unfortunately.

Maybe, but it's a buyer's market for goaltending. You either accept reduced trade value or wait until closing time for the people still at the bar to get desperate.

While I agree, holding out for max value and left without any sort of competent starter also kinda goes against Chevy's plan to remain competitive this year. We're either left holding the bag and then having to make the decision come deadline day to move your vezna starter while either in a playoff position/playoff chase and then risk loosing him for nothing.

Yeah, I do kind of feel like Hellebuyck needs to be decided on by July 1.

We are definitely in need of a back-up goalie, which I expect them to handle on July 1. The question is: are you getting a league minimum backup for 15-20 starts to play behind Hellebuyck, or a "1A" backup who can handle 30-35 starts to platoon with his replacement?

Seems the Price and Bobrovsky contracts have likely made some GMs gun shy on the massive deal to goalies in their 30's.

Vas got a big deal but he was locked up through his 20's.

I’ve heard that it’s a buyers market for goalies, but is it really?

Here’s a list of all the UFA goalies who played more than 20 games last year with a save percentage above .910….

Joonas Korpisalo
Semyon Varlamov

That’s it…

Can cross off Varlamov I'm pretty sure he signed.

The goalie market ain't good. And a 2024 1st will V likely be late (contender that's adding Helle)

Other goalies are on the market too, cheaper goalies than Hellebuyck long term. Adin Hill winning the Cup didn't exactly do a lot of good for expensive clear number 1s.

The goalie market is terrible for teams who lack a proper #1, but so is the market for teams who need to unload large contracts or, in our case, large upcoming contract extensions.

The return we get for Helle will undoubtedly be disappointing. He wants to play on a contender, but contenders have their starters already for the most part. Chevy needs to work his magic again with this one.

I'd look at Dillion for Garland and a mid round pick.

Then the third line would be complete:

Iafallo/Nino Lowry Garland
Barron Kupri Appelton
