I wonder if the strategy with Schiefele and Helle is to keep them at the start of the Season and then:

Trade them at the deadline if team is outside the playoffs

Or

If the team is doing well, parlay that success with some trade deadline acquisitions to change their minds into re-signing (Especially Helle)

If helle don't wanna be here, he won't be here when the season starts...

Same with Mark

The problem with this approach is what if the Jets are fighting for the final wildcard spot or in that final wildcard sport? Then you are in a sticky spot, it'll be hard to move them but if you don't you lose them for nothing.

I think the Jets should either re-sign both players or trade them this off season. Worst case, you can start the season with Scheifele but you gotta move or re-sign Helle in the summer unless you want to make your life harder next year.

I disagree. Helle will not hold out. Remember, the insiders only said Helle is not looking to re-sign long term. This is not like PLD at all. Neither would hold out. They are signed for next season

Would have hated Cristall at 18 but if we can pick up a 2nd rounder for Stan or Dillon, I’d be happy to use that pick on him if he’s still on the board.

Didn't say it was a good approach, just perhaps what they are thinking. I agree, this approach only has a chance to succeed if the Jets are doing really really well at the TDL (and perhaps makes some nouse in the playoffs) or if they are totally out if it. Definitely a risky strategy.

it's possible the Jets are choosing between these scenarios:

Choice 1. Trade Helle for an underwhelming return now ( can't resign him now)

Or

Choice 2.

Possibility 1: Trade Helle at the Td (team is sucking) for anywhere between a better return (futures heavy in this case )than now or a way better return)

Possibility 2: Have a good year and try to change his mind to re-sign with the risk of losing him for nothing

Which of these would you choose? I'm applying this moreso with Helle but I guess it can be applied to Schiefele as well.

Well they are under contract and neither is dumb enough to stay home and not get paid for a year.

So if Chevy can't find the right deals he may elect to hold them and flip them during the year.

Helle has already come out and said he's playing for the Jets this season unless something changes... he's not sitting out

With the restructure and assuming Wheeler buyout... the only 'contender' that can afford the 9m a year... kind of seems like the Jets...

Offer Helle 8 years at $8m - then if Divincentis emerges in 3-4 years the cap will be high enough that its a fair trade with retention

Trade Scheif at the deadline for a massive haul

^^ This. Despite the reports of Helle not Resigning long term, he has allot of respect for management and would not hold out. The relationship between player, agent and management has always been in good standing. Virtually similar situation with Schiefele.

Except Helle shows up every game... Scheif checked out after getting benched - that's not respect for management

Helle wants a cup.
If he is playing for Winnipeg, he will try his hardest to win that cup.

I see him going to the Devils.

Helle signed and traded for 7 x 8.5m and Iafallo (1.25m retained) for Mercer?

I wonder if Helle might have the most value as a pure rental. I could see teams like Toronto and Edmonton being desperate enough to pay more than they should to go all in for the year. His cap hit next year is manageable and the Jets could retain if need be.

I think a Helle trade should happen in the offseason. Goalies need time to settle in with a new team. A team in a playoff position isn't likely to be shopping for a starting goal tender at the TDL.

Scheifele's best value might be at the TDL. He could help any team immensely and any team could afford him. Injury is a risk, but he has been pretty durable.

My guess is Chipman will send his cheque book to Scheifele and tell Scheifele to write in whatever he wants. I don't see any realistic alternative if the Jets plan to compete next year which they clearly do.

Where is him sitting out even coming from? He's under contract. If he sits out then his contract is breached and goes another year. There is no situation where he sits, unless I'm missing something.

A few posters (including me) responded to one of the posters in this thread who said Scief and Helle would not play for the Jets this coming season. So really a non story. Multiple people pushing back against this one post made it look bigger than it is

Thanks for the clarification. I only saw the responses. To the original post: that doesn't make sense and has a 0% chance of happening.

I just think it's a dumb move if helle and Mark ain't signing new deals to risk having them get injured during the year and having to keep them and lose them for nothing next off season

It's not a good strategy. July 1 is coming soon, you either sign them to extensions or move them. Going in to the season with 1 year left for both is just poor asset management. You trade them this off season. Probably July 1st or later tho

Hopefully we can trade Helle to NJ and raid their cupboard like we did LA. They’d have to be Cup favourites.

Except in this day and age... trading an injured player on LTIR is probably almost as valuable to a contender as trading a healthy player...

Had a strong feeling Helle wouldn't be moving until after FA frenzy. GM's don't want to jump the gun yet and see what might be available.
