Still 22 and only 2 NHL seasons so far. Possible 2nd line upside. He's not the piece I would prefer, but with their 1st, that's a least a realistic return.

Yeah great skater with some playmaking upside, tends to defer more but we can work with him on that. Plays C/LW. Likely need to keep getting a bit bigger and adapting to NHL size but I think he's got some solid top 6 upside and yet another body we can try and work in at C.

A Krebs - Perfetti - Vilardi line could be really fun with some sheltering. All 3 capable of playing wings and C in a pinch but I think more than likely he is probably someone we want to start on the wing and see where it goes.

Fair enough.

I wonder if #18 + Heinola for #22 + Sanheim would get anything done. Probably not, but Philly is also on the clock with that NTC, they can't wait forever if they really want to go scorched earth with their rebuild.

I just don't see Sanheim returning that much with his contract. As we've seen cap space is king right now and teams aren't taking on long term commitments all that often.

I seriously doubt the Jets are interested in trading premium assets for him.

I'd say 15 goal 35 to 40 assist potential. Maybe what Drouin is now. Not really all that bullish on him as a prospect.

If we can get him on the cheap even better. Maybe Heinola and a dump from our end is enough. Heinola + Dillon?

I still think we might see Hellebuyck traded for a mid-1st at the draft, but it will depend on who's available on the draft floor. I'm not sure what the Jets are thinking, but I'd be very happy if the Jets could draft Benson or Danielson along with another big F or D at #18.

Scheifele might be a trade later in the summer, after the smoke has cleared a bit and teams can contemplate a contract extension. I still wouldn't put it beyond the realm of possibility that Scheifele extends in Winnipeg, since the Jets can't really contemplate competing without a top-2 C. Looks like Compher is going to be a UFA, and he might be a fit at 2C behind Scheifele. I wouldn't mind this...

Perfetti-Scheifele-Vilardi
Connor-Compher-Ehlers
Iaffalo-Lowry-Niederreiter
Barron-Kupari-Appleton
Gus

Prospects:
F
McGroarty, Benson, Lucius, Lambert, Chibrikov, Zhilkin, Rashevsky

D
Heinola, Chisholm, Salmonsson, Simashev
I like this lineup even if Im not sold on Scheif as a 1C anymore - hard working team that probably squeaks into the playoffs if Helle is still here

I'd re-sign Names as injury insurance

Mitts and their 2nd I'd do.
Wanted him 2 years ago when the Sabres started to sour on him.
They brought him up too soon but he is rounding into a really good player.
Then I'd throw some cash at Varlamov on a 2 or 3 year deal.
3 x 6.75m or something like that.

Here is my list of what I think are likely returns for Helle from the teams interested.

Buffalo
1 of 13th overall, Krebs, Savoie or Ostlund
Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen
Possibly some picks or B prospects

Detroit
1 of 9th Overall, Kasper, Wallinder
Ville Husso
Possibly some picks or B prospects

NJ
Holtz
Schmid
Possibly some picks or B prospects

Pitts
1 of 14th overall or Pickering
Gauthier
Possibly some picks or B prospects

If we get anymore than that from any of those teams I'd consider it a massive massive win. I think it's also imperative we get some sort of goalie or goalie prospect back in this deal.

As far as rental goes LA, Edmonton, Colorado, Toronto and Ottawa might be interested but the price is likely much lower for that to happen. Probably closer to the range of a late 1st, B prospect and Cap dump.
Helle at $6m a year for a rental would command a higher price imo than Helle asking for 10m a year for term

The pressure to get McDavid and Matthews a cup is real... bad decisions will be made

100% agree. However, moving a pick up or down by a few spots often has little value, and if we're running Morrissey-Sanheim-Samberg as our three LHDs, then every other LHD we have becomes significantly less valuable for us.

We wouldn't give up that much in assets; what we would give up is a lot of flexibility. I'm not sure I'd want to do it, but I could at least see why we would.

It's possible. We really just have to sit on him and let teams come to us. Someone will get desperate.

One interesting thing: according to capfriendly with RFAs the Jets have 23 roster players right now, excluding Heinola and Chisholm. There’s got to be some players moving out. Wheeler for sure. Who else? A defenceman or two?

Agree on both. I don't want to spend too much on Sanheim, especially if it means we have to pay to move a Schmidt/Dillon/Pionk as well.

I'd say 15/35 doesn't sound too off. But that with say the 13th pick isn't a horrible return. Would be near the bottom of the other Sabres pieces for me, but not bad IMO.

I'd rather their 1st as the centrepiece than Mittlestadt.

Trade Dillon for futures (2nd +?), trade Stanley for a nominal return. Since Heinola would already be moved, we can hold on to Chisholm and pray that he makes it through waivers in October. RHDs are locked in. Not much to be done, I'd say. IMO, Dillon and Stanley should be dealt this summer almost regardless of what happens.

And no, I wouldn't offer that 2nd on top of Heinola and a pick swap. At that point, I'd rather see our current young guns take a bigger role.
Chisholm will never make it through waivers ... he either makes the club or the Jets lose him.
Stanley and Dillion are the two D rumors that are going around according to Pagnotta who broke the PLD trade.

I wonder who they've talked to us about with us :p
If their 1st is in play it is either Helly or Scheifele.

The real wildcard is Dubas. So far he doesn't seem like the type of GM to go big fish goalie hunting. He seems to be in the I'll get a cheap UFA goalie and make it work camp.
I don't think he can get away with this in Pittsburg. Sid is 35 turning 36. His tenure might be very short lived if the Pens struggle because of goaltending.

This is where I'm leaning... I think Chevy runs things back with Scheif and Helle until TD

maybe NJD goes for it now - 2024 1st, Boqvist, McLeod and Vanecek for Helle

Otherwise, I see a ton of teams looking for a rental vezina finalist for likely 1st,2nd, young roster player, prospect

One of determining factors in how I feel about our haul in the PLD trade and any upcoming trades, is who is going to be coaching and how good they will be about giving some of the young guys to step up. This will really be important to players like Kumpari and Vilardi, Perfetti, Heinola (if he's still here after the draft) etc. We have some very young, and potentially great/good talent. I hope we can give them every opportunity to succeed and make our team better.

Dubas probably has PTSD from having no money left for a goalie in TO...

He also might not have any meaningful trade value. We mismanaged him badly, and that's why I would like us to be more proactive with Heinola (either get him regular ice time or trade him before he needs waivers too).

All the guys in the Kings trade look like they slot right into Bowness' system and ideology...
