Toronto Maple Leafs are surprisingly underperforming

Is it surprising to you? Most posts here seem to have predicted it. If it’s a poorly constructed team that HfBoards predicted to decline - it’s not surprising.
TOR? Of course. I'm enjoying every minute of it.

Surprise to outsiders. Those who follow leafs have seen this coming for years. I

A rookie gm, rookie coach is a disaster in the making
The signs have been there. Losing to montreal with a 3-1 lead, losing to zamboni driver. Anyone who watches hockey will yell you Dubas is way over his head

Under Dubas leafs traded or walked out on FA
Kadri
Hyman
Mikaheyev
Kapanen
Andreas
Marchment
Anderson

Out of all that, only thing you have to show for now is Kerfoot and Malgin

Traded 1st nik foligno . Back problem. Plays 10 games
Traded 1st to get rid of mrazek. A deal he signed. Concussion and knee problem. Last 1 season
Trades for Murray. All kind of problems
Marchment for Malgin
Doesn't have depth goalies for even back up. The 4th string goalie is our back up

He Traded away all speed and depth.

This dude has single handily killed the franchise

The wonder boy has generational for all the wrong reasons

I don't necessarily think it's entirely due to their current record that there are concerns about the Leafs. As has been mentioned, it's early in the season AND other teams have similar records. IMO, it's more the fact that Toronto's core has a lot more to prove than a lot of these other teams and the same sort of lazy, uninspired play still keeps cropping up.

I don't think this slow start will affect their ability to make the playoffs. I still expect them to be top 2 or top 3 in their division by the end of 82 games. However, the way they're going about playing these first 10 games makes me wonder if this core has the character/determination/leadership to ever be a successful team come playoff time.

NST has Matthews as having 1 goal and zero assists so far this season at 5on5. With the amount of flak Marner's getting from the fanbase, you'd think he's the one with only one solitary point at 5on5 after 10 games.
Ok thanks worse than I thought, 1 point

Cause the Avs are proven winners.

Unreal playoff luck.

First round. Vezina goaltender injured.
Second round. Starting goaltender gets injured while the Blues are leading the series.
Third round. Art Ross winner and 1D injured.
Fourth round. Top forward injured.

Every team they faced was missing a core player, aside from Edmonton who just suffered injuries.

Being a rookie had nothing to do with it. This man is a flowery little b**** who doesn’t know hockey beyond a spreadsheet and fantasy league. Literally doesn’t understand defence, hitting, fighting, emotion, none of it. Ofc he wet his pants and brought in Johnny boy for 11 million lmfao

Avs have had good and really bad injury luck (we won playoff games with hutchinson LOL). Are you gonna use injuries as your excuse for the Leafs next first round exit? Cause its only a matter of time when Matthews gets injured in the first round.

Yeah, if their core players are injured of course it’s a factor.

Do you think the Avs win without Mackinnon/Makar playing? This was a team that never made it out of the second round.

More like an unreal team. Just dominant throughout the playoffs. One of the most deserved Cup winners we’ve seen. An injured starting goalie and missing a top four D in Girard as well. Good teams like the Avs have the depth to overcome key injuries.

You really need to get a new schtick. The lame excuses just don’t cut it.

Part of that domination comes from being the first team to play 4 significantly injured teams.

They never made it out of the second round before that. How did they just flip the switch from being a guaranteed second round exit to one of the most dominant cup winners ever and the injuries to all the other teams played no factor? It’s not a logical deduction to make.

Lol. Lame.
The Avs played without a top 3 D in Girard and their starting goalie Kuemprer was injured. Top teams like the Avs just keep on steamrolling teams.
Losing teams and their fans make lame excuses.
You need a new schtick. 😆

Matthews seems like he gets a free pass a lot. Him and JT have like 3? ES points combined in 10 games. Marner has like 6, which I think is tops on Toronto

The Avs didn’t lose a top player on their team.

If they lost Makar or Mackinnon, it’d be a different story. They got to play 2 backups in the first 2 rounds, and they were losing the second round until the starter got injured - I’m assuming that’s a complete coincidence to you?

Also a complete coincidence the Rangers were down 3-1 and Crosby got injured and they won the series right?

You could do this sort of analysis for any Cup Run or long and successful Playoff Run and get similar results.

You crack me up!

Lightning had as long as a run as the Avs just last year and they played a team with No Heart in the 1st round. Does that invalidate their run?

What?

The Lightning went to the Finals 3 years in a row.

The Avs were a guaranteed second round exit prior to facing 4 teams with significant injuries in a row.
