I bet you would! :)

Ever notice that it is not Hurricanes fans starting these terrible proposals? It’s almost as if we are happy to keep Pesce. Pretty weird, huh?

Spoiler alert : (He’s really good at defense)
Yes, Pesce is a good defenceman.

Do people honestly think the leafs couldn’t get Pesce for Nylander? Like cmon this has been debunked by multiple sources like Lebrun and Bobby Mac many times. Dubas won’t even give up Kap or Johnsson for Pesce but keep dreaming canes fans you bunch of jerks.

People are jumping to conclusions based on speculation by some media guys. For all we know, the conversation could have gone like this.

Dubas: "Hey Don, we're interested in one of your RHD."
Waddell: "We're listening to offers, what have you got in mind?"
Dubas: "Well, we really like Pesce and would be most interested in him."
Waddell: "Well, he's a very good young D on a great contract. Going to be an anchor on our blue-line for a long time. In order for me to consider moving him, we'd want a guy like Nylander."
Dubas: "Sorry, William is off limits."
Waddell: "Then Brett is off limits. How about Kapanen or Johnsson for Faulk?"
Dubas: "I'm not moving Kapanen or Johnsson for Faulk. He's a UFA in a year and doesn't give us the type of player we need."
Waddell: "Well, that's who I'd want for Justin. If you aren't willing to offer some of your better players or prospects, then we have nothing to talk about. If you change your mind, you have my number."

Lol, of course you'd consider it, but you won't get Pesce for Nylander let alone Svechnikov. I think, Svechnikov will become a better player, than Nylander, as soon as next season.

We've already heard from major media sources that Pesce's value is Kapanen or Johnsson, not Nylander.

Stop posting this fake news.

Bruins fan here...

I like it!!

In all seriousness; Marner is the best player on the Leafs. Without him the Leafs are not where they are today. Look at them last year without JT, playoff team. Look at the when AM goes out for a bit, playoff team. Without Marner I don't see that team nearly as deadly and could even be a bubble team.

IF Marner goes, it's an elite D of his age, and even then they might get a decent add.

And that ridiculousness is why nothing has happened. Kapanen and/or Johnsson may one day be worth Pesce, but they'll need to prove it for a few years before we take that leap of faith. Pesce is a shut down defender... right now. Kapanen and Johnsson might be top 6 forwards one day, but not right now.

The nice thing about Carolina's awesome play in 2019 is that we no longer have to hear... "keep your stupid defensemen then and enjoy another year of crap hockey." It got to be so old and predictable. YAWN.

We had Nylander/Pesce... then Kapanen/Pesce.... then Johnsson/Pesce... then Brown/Pesce. I was expecting to see a 4th rounder in 2025 for Pesce up next.

I guess I should be happy the latest iteration is Marner/Pesce & Svechnikov.

Our forwards are too good, so trades won't be worth it (as per our posts). Most we could give for other teams defenders is future considerations unless its Doughty, Seth Jones or something like that.

So tell your fellow fans to quit coveting our dreamy d-men. Our defenders are too good, so trades for lesser pieces aren't worth it to us. The most we would give up for lesser pieces is Faulk or TVR. We can discuss Pesce or Hamilton, but it is going to cost you a more valuable piece (Nylander/Kadri).

I bet, a lot of Toronto fans won't love it, but with Mattews and Tavares making the money they make, if they get another 11M+ player, they'll find themselves in big troubles cap wise and prespectives-to-win-the-Cup wise. So here a proposal

To Toronto
Pesce, Svechnikov

To Carolina
Marner

Svechnikov is a different type of a player, than Marner, more like a power forward and a goal scorer (he can pass as well, though), and can become a PPG player in a year or two.

Pesce is a solid young top4 defenseman with upsides. That's why Toronto should agree to this deal.

As to Carolina, they get another superstar forward to help Aho, both are very young and can drive the team to a promised land for many years to come.
Absolutely not from Toronto. Not even close.

The machine works well to support our dreams & narratives.

I do, but the other NHL clubs are ostensibly our feeder teams. Enigmatically, some are resisting this notion though.

It's hard to overvalue a guy like Marner, but I genuinely think this is overvaluing him. Svech could very likely be just as good in 2 years. Definitely Marner>Svech but the difference is not Pesce. Creative way to help the leafs cap crunch though!
So Svechnikov is going to go from 37 point pace (this year) to a 100 point pace in 2 years? Dont think I'm going to take your word on that lol let alone being 'very likely'

Toronto is not moving Marner

This.

Pesce <-> Nylander is the basis for a trade on July 2... move other parts around as you see fit.... probably something additional going to the Leafs.

Leafs blueline going into next year:
Rielly-Pesce
Muzzin-Zaitsev
Dermott-Hainsey (or replacement / Sandin / Oz)

The $3m in cap savings would allow them to retain Kapanen, Johnsson, and maybe even Brown.

From a dollar perspective, Nylander will have $24.7m payable over the remaining 5 years of the deal.... Pesce will have $20.125m payable over the remaining 5 years of his deal.

No idea how good Svechnikov will be in the future, or how many points he will put up. After watching a few Cane games recently, I was impressed at how he was able to thread the needle on some of his passes.

That's true. I think it's fair to remember that he's in his first season post draft. Guys like Marner, Aho, Nylander, weren't even in the NHL at a time when Svechnikov is on a 37 point pace (from the 3rd line playing with Jordan Martinook and Lucas Wallmark). I'm pretty happy with a 20G, 37 point pace for him at his age and how he's being utilized/developed. Still, if he's a 30G, 60+ point player in 2 years, I'll be very happy.

Leafs aren't trading Marner anyhow so it's a pointless discussion.

Or, maybe the Canes deploy other options? UFA forward?

I was surprised at how good of a passer/playmaker he is. I expected a physical goal scorer and he's doing fairly well at that given his age, linemates and usage, but his playmaking ability is an unexpected surprise.
