Pesce >>> Kap/Johnsson = Faulk

You're talking Faulk if you're using Kap or Johnsson as the trade pieces. Closest 1 for 1 swaps for Pesce would be Nylander or Kadri, and even still I think most Canes fans would be hesitant (Nylander contract $$, Kadri age) and would rather overpay slightly by using Faulk + ?asset?
Would have to be significant +, no real need or want for Faulk

There’s lots of money to re up muzzin after next year if we decide he’s a core piece.?
What has Svechnikov done to prove he’s more valuable than Nylander and his back to back 60pt seasons broke under 22?
Just because pesce has 3x the term doesn’t mean he’s 3x as valuable you’re suggesting pesce gets 3 firsts plus?
Hamilton & Pesci might be shoe horned into those duties but doesn’t mean that they’re qualified to do so. Neither are among the leagues top 62 D

Signing big Free Agents in their prime is always an option. Heck the Leafs could make a run at Erik Karlsson. Going to be tough fitting it all in with $33+ million going to 3 players.
Svechnikov is outscoring Nylander as an 18 year old this year. His underlying metrics are among the top in the league.
Pesce absolutely would command 3+ firsts in a trade.
Don't believe Hamilton and "Pesci" are among the league's top 62 D? Name 61 better assets (player + contract). Name 30 that are clearly better. We will wait.

Nothing cause right now Nylander>>>>> Svechnikov
Nylander vs. Svechnikov poll would be a landslide in Svechnikov's favor. I'd be surprised if Nylander got a vote other than yours.

Fair points, Manrer did play in junior for 1 year after being drafted.

Not trying to disparage Svechnikov but a lot of people overrate potential and ignore the likelyhood that players will not reach their ceiling. I very much doubt Svechnikov becomes a 100 point player to be honest but that is because 100 point player are so rare.
But you don't have any doubts with Marner. Correct? How many seasons has he reached 100 p or more?

Canes wouldn't do this because of the salary Cap pure and simple.

Pesce is on a good contract for another 5 years and even the fact that Marner is the much better player right now doesn't itigate the better value the Canes have in keeping their 2 guys.

I am going to sit here and say Mitch is way more valuable than Svechnikov because he has actually hit his cieling while Svechnikov is all projections at this point...
So Marner's ceiling are only 69 points? I project him to be better.

And that ridiculousness is why nothing has happened. Kapanen and/or Johnsson may one day be worth Pesce, but they'll need to prove it for a few years before we take that leap of faith. Pesce is a shut down defender... right now. Kapanen and Johnsson might be top 6 forwards one day, but not right now.

The nice thing about Carolina's awesome play in 2019 is that we no longer have to hear... "keep your stupid defensemen then and enjoy another year of crap hockey." It got to be so old and predictable. YAWN.

Kapanen on pace for 20G, 50P season.. Not a top 6 forward? What?

The idea that Matthews, Tavares, Nylander or Marner's contracts are a problem for the Leafs is flawed. The Leafs will have some contract issues, and might even have to trade someone they don't want to, but it's not likely to be one of those 4, and those contracts are not an issue.

The $11.95M the Leafs have committed next year to Marleau, Kessel and Zaitsev is far more of an issue. If you manage your cap well, none of those other contracts are even a mild concern. Even if you get to the point where you have to trade someone, if you are doing it while having no wasted cap space, it's not a difficult problem that has you trading away your top players.

The reality is the Leafs may lose some future value to move a contract they don't want to, or may lose out on some players they would likely rather keep (Kapanen or Johnsson), but moving Marner won't be the solution unless someone offers something completely silly.

That's quite a dumb argument and you know it.

Base Nylander on his first 3 seasons, not his play from his hold out.
Each point of Nylander costs Toronto so far this season $856'481.
Each point of Svech costs Carolina so far this season $34'259.
Nylander is more precious for sure. More valuable?
:dunno:

We'd actually prefer to keep Pesce TYVM, but as far as things go...it was pretty clear from the things that he said to the media that DW walked on trade talks as soon as Dubas turned down the Canes Pesce-Nylander 1-for-1 offer.

Since then, the reports are all "Leafs scouting Canes" and not "Canes scouting Leafs." It's pretty clear who is desperate for this trade (Dubas) and who is not moving from their initial ask. (Waddell)

Jack Hughes hasn't played a single NHL game yet, so how many GMs would trade 2019 1st OA for Nylander?.. To hell GMs, how many Toronto fans would agree to such a trade, if they had 1st OA?
