This team is built to be a fringe contender at best. It's no surprise Hiller got the job since his last job was coaching another team constantly mired in mediocrity in the LA Kings. Them finishing where they did in the standings wasn't an aberration, it was an indication. They better hope and pray Matthews back can hold up and Tavares can continue fighting off father team or else they're looking at another lottery pick... that goes to someone else.
I mean you still haven't explained at all why the Raddysh contract is a bad one if he doesn't play at an anolmalous rate or even what an anolmalous rate for a defenceman is?????

As for a team that was dead last on the PP last year with goaltending that was bottom 10 and still only 6 points out from a playoff spot before they put the tank commanders in. Raddysh and Mckenna go a long way to fixing the PP. Adding Raddysh and Andrae to the defence and this team is already better than that mess from last year.

Well whatever. I’m not sure too many neutral fans would have mccabe or oel on the same level as Moser. If you take that as a shot at the leafs it’s on you
Your comment presumes deficiency on the heels of the acquisition. Your above reply then presumes a neutrality of consensus opinion presuming the same thing, yet you claimed your comment was more a compliment to Moser?

Just own it, lol. Your comment reads like a shot at the Leafs first and by extension a compliment to Moser.

We have a new front office, a new coach, a new system, a 1OA coming in, and who knows what else. Emphasizing comparative deficiencies at this juncture doesn’t convey impartiality.

Absolutely. I see a huge bounce back year from the bottom five to fighting with Detroit for the final playoff spot. A lot of the haters will be eating their words.

I would take that result if I was told it 2 months ago when it appeared all hope was lost and we were destined to give a top 10 pick to the Bruins.

With what I know today that is an underachievement.

Your argument was if you take away Dobson's best he's Raddysh.

So then take away Raddysh's best and he's barely an NHL player.

The argument attacks itself, I dont need to do anything
Since when did 33 pt and 37 pt season for a dman become barely an NHLer?

That dude argument is dumb as usual, but Raddysh has been a top 4D quality D for 3 years now but was being misused before this year.

His ceiling is Dobson level but realistically he will be closer to someone like prime Jared Spurgeon in production and impact with better health and numbers due to #1 PP usage

"15m is the new going rate for top pairing defenceman." "Doubled shooting percentage, scoring, and ice-time for the first time at 30 is sustainable." Thanks for the laughs Leafs fans, just because somebody has to pay for a bite out of the turd sandwich doesn't mean it has to be you.

There’s still a reasonable chance the Bruins do get a high pick but there’s also a reasonable chance that you fight for a playoff spot imo.

I don't think Florida is going back to a top team again either. IMO Tampa, Florida and Toronto are on the way down. All three will be in the mix for playoffs but I think it's the Habs and Sabres on top and everyone else playing for third or wild card
I wouldn’t be surprised at all for Buffalo to miss the playoffs again. I think they are going to be a wildcard at best with Toronto, Montreal and Florida in the top 3

It's a good contract but the wrong team. This is Toronto saying "well, we don't have our firsts the next two years so may as well see what kind of noise we can make". It doesn't make them a better team and even if he does put up similar numbers he did this year (big if), too much still has to go right for Toronto to be at least in the wildcard picture. Why were they on the cusp of trading Knies last year for futures if they weren't looking at something of a teardown? I think lucking into a top 5 finish and then 1OA sort of forced them to change course since they probably thought they were going to lose their first this year.

Being better than the mess last year isn't a justification because being better doesn't make you a credible contender and the chances that contract ages well is slim.

I'm typically the last one to defend the Habs, but all things considered I'd much rather have Dobson, even factoring in the cost of acquisition, and its not particularly close.

Raddysh has one season where he was good/great. Dobson has a whole career of it. And Montreal didnt need to give up anyone of significant value to get the trade done
They gave up to 1st round draft picks in the teens plus a prospect. Suddenly 1st round picks don't have value on HF Forums??? Or is that only when you have to try and prove a flawed and failing arguement?

That wasn't my argument...

Raddysh has one season where he was good/great. Dobson has a whole career of it. And Montreal didnt need to give up anyone of significant value to get the trade done

My argument was that they both have one good year of being great, neither has a career of it, and that they were putting up similar points at even strength.

Dobson was also a top-pairing D over this time when he was putting up similar numbers to a 2nd pairing D.

Raddysh broke out with an opportunity.

I'm interested to see the reaction from folks like you when free agency happens and you see third liners getting 6m

if raddysh had a 3 year sample size of this we'd be looking at 12 mill.

It's a gamble, but has the upside to be a bargain that you don't often find in UFA.

A two time Cup champ and three time SC finalist who missed one of the top centers in the league the whole season will always get the benefit of a doubt compared to a bottom five team who underachieved for years and who lost their second best player for almost nothing.
This isn’t very complicated.
That team that's underachieved for years won the division the previous season.
