This is going to be a fun season. Leafs are the weirdest team in the league ATM. Total chaos and it’s very fun for NHL fans. I could see them being a juggernaut or awful.

I completely understand the difference. Just point out that there are Habs fan absolutely eviscerating this trade/signing when Raddysh had multiple seasons before the 70 point outlier season very similar of what they got from Dobson last year. Obviously, the reasonable expectation for Dobson is that he performs at that level for the entire contract, which is unlikely to be the case for Raddysh. My point is that the Leaf's got a guy who is likely to perform similarly in that role, at essentially the identical AAV, for a 5th round DP. Just saying that this might not be the best hill to die on while ripping on the DR transaction.
I'm typically the last one to defend the Habs, but all things considered I'd much rather have Dobson, even factoring in the cost of acquisition, and its not particularly close.

Raddysh has one season where he was good/great. Dobson has a whole career of it. And Montreal didnt need to give up anyone of significant value to get the trade done

You think Florida is going to be terrible again? Or does this logic only apply to the Leafs?
I don't think Florida is going back to a top team again either. IMO Tampa, Florida and Toronto are on the way down. All three will be in the mix for playoffs but I think it's the Habs and Sabres on top and everyone else playing for third or wild card

Dobson had one inflated year... what are you talking about? A whole career of almost great hockey and one great year.

He's also needed the PP to put up decent numbers, his numbers are a lot closer to Raddysh when you remove it.

This has been said every year for the last 5 years.

I think Florida and Toronto rebound.

It was easier to do the last 5 years cause the Atlantic had a lot of bad teams. I believe Montreal and Buffalo are here to stay and this season was their coming out party.

A two time Cup champ and three time SC finalist who missed one of the top centers in the league the whole season will always get the benefit of a doubt compared to a bottom five team who underachieved for years and who lost their second best player for almost nothing.
This isn’t very complicated.

Toronto just traded arguably their best NHL goaltender for a guy who was statistically the worst goaltender in the NHL. I have no idea what this team is doing other than making desperate moves.

Except Mathews and nylander are shooters not play makers and mckenna hasn't played a game yet lol
Give me a break. Looking to those guys to clean up the rebounds from point shots and, you know, still receiving passes from a skilled nhl defenceman.

If you don't think Matthews, nylander and McKenna won't rack up some nice assists on this PP too, then there is no point reasoning with you

This team is built to be a fringe contender at best. It's no surprise Hiller got the job since his last job was coaching another team constantly mired in mediocrity in the LA Kings. Them finishing where they did in the standings wasn't an aberration, it was an indication. They better hope and pray Matthews back can hold up and Tavares can continue fighting off father team or else they're looking at another lottery pick... that goes to someone else.

I think it's far too early to be making these kinds of statements about anyone, especially in the Atlantic.

Yes, if the Leafs finish the offseason simply "doing their business" of signing their RFAs, they are likely a fringe playoff team with a very deep defence, very questionable secondary/depth offence, a huge hole at 3C, and a couple of gambles in net.

What's not neccessarily considered, is the fact that after signing Raddysh, they have $22m in cap space; and signing Maccelli ($4m?), Robertson ($3m?), Andrae ($2m?), and McKenna ($1m); they'd still be left with about $11m to spend with 11 forwards, 7 defencemen, and 2 goalies.

Okay, critical thinking test... do the playoffs matter for the regular season?

This is a tough competitive division. At the end of the day all of them will be competitive. Ottawa will also be good again. Toronto kind of had to use money because they always have expectations and why not on a player from Toronto? Used that logic before with Tavares..

I’ll take that bet. Loser allows the winner to pick their new username, have to keep it for the offseason

Sorry HockeyVirus is sacred to HFboards and designated a heritage username. A lot of red tape around making any changes to it.

They'll probably have more once they dump Reilly for loose change, but the real question is on who?

Everything else you wrote has done nothing except support my expectations.
