Confirmed Trade: [TOR/STL/MIN] O'Reilly, Acciari, Pillar to TOR; Abramov, Gaudette, ‘23 1st, ‘23 3rd, ‘24 2nd to STL; ‘25 4th to MIN

I like Acciari going to the Leafs. I think every team would love to add somebody like him. I'm not sure ROR was needed for the rest of the cost, but if they're going all in, I get it. The organization has to be tired of making to the post season and having nothing to show for it. Prospects are nice, but you have a competitive team right now.
Underrated part of this trade. I didn't know much about his game but after some reading he seems like a really sick gritty add for the PK and bottom 6

Jeez bruins should flip nick for a 1st then hes having a comeback year. He has suberb leadership skills too. Unreal.
Not knowing Foligno. I liked him when the Leafs got him. Unfortunately he was injured.

I was just commenting that you used points but not PPG. I didn't know it was amateur hour here. That's all.

He had 2 years where he had 4 in 7 and is point per game over the other 4 years. Sick burn man. Sick burn.
It must be exhausting defending this guy, no? Maybe I should make a thread asking whether Marner is clutch just to create a lot of work for guys like you?

If I were to start such a thread, how do you think it will go?

In any case, it will be a lot of fun watching you try to control the narrative like you’re attempting to do here.

Well done Leafs, thats a big move. I wonder if theyll shore up the D a bit as well.. still some cap?

That's crazy because Blues fans don't think that at all. Over 60% on faceoffs and ppg since his return from injury.
He's a 3rd line center. No more. And an expensive one. This time of year teams always overpay for face-off wins. A second rate center on the verge of retirement goes to a second-rate cup contender.

Aren’t they like….5th best in the league in GA/PG?

Sure their defense isn’t full of world-beaters, but it’s not exactly failing them.
I can't think of a team thats won a cup with a defense that poor. I know the game isn't played on paper and they're playing well right now but come playoff time it's just going to be more of the same for Toronto.

Leafs are a better defensive team than offensive team. They needed depth that could score in the playoffs and grit most up front. They got both. Keeping Knies means if he is any good, it's another ELC depth add with some size and grit.

Leafs on the back end are 8 dmen deep who as you said have had amazing results. This move gives injury insurance as if Matthews or JT goes down the depth was terrible. If we are healthy it gives us 3 lines that could reasonably be a first line.

Not sure why people want Dubas to make moves not supported by results because of their fantasy. Samsonov has been everything we want and when healthy so has Murray. If they play as they have, the D plays as they have, and ROR gives us some depth scoring then we can match up with any team.

I think some people are secretly scared of that so they launch the hahaha leafs will still lose. This is what a lot of fans wanted, just go for it. Let us see if this core ever had a chance to win instead of whatifs because we never added a big piece.

Hard to see how a deal for a D comes together, really. Rielly/Brodie/Liljegren/Gio/Holl/Sandin/Timmins/Benn.

Maybe a future mid-late round pick for a depth guy who offers a different look, but they've got 8 defenders. Unless someone like Holl or Sandin are flipped back for a clear top 6 player, the Leafs are pretty locked in. No one is big and heavy back there with Muzzin out, but the Leafs are a much more structurally sound team than they were a few years back. Fair to ask whether it'll be enough in the playoffs, but the D is solid and deeper than it's been since they actually *won* a playoff series.

In before people overrate second round picks. Only thing of value is a late first. Cool beans.
For a fan base that can’t stop blowing their own horn about their success drafting in the second round (see any Robertson or Knies post) this is a weird take. I don’t hate the trade for the Leafs but man the Toronto fan base seems to have a bi-polar victim mentality on these boards.

ROR is going to have easier match ups with the Leafs depth while also being able to shut down opponents.

Dubas paid full price as all competitive teams do at this time of the year, but he did well to get 75% paid, AND Accari who is a strong two way player who throws his weight around. These two players combined significantly improve 2 of 12 positions on the ice. Ryan brings the intangibles that are in the rarest of supply.

This allows Dubas flexibility at the deadline while not having to part with Knies and other strong prospects. A Leafs first round pick won't be a high one.

Guerin probably wasn’t going to sign Josh Pillar by the June 1st deadline so Minnesota would have given his rights up anyway.

Guerin cleared a roster spot in exchange for retaining salary while adding a mid round pick.

Pillar just recently returned from injury and is back in Saskatoon’s lineup.
Pillar wasn't taking up a roster spot or contract slot

Just a slot on the 90man reserve list, but MIN wasn't close

You're point stands though
Guerin had probably already decided he wasn't going to sign Pillar, so now he just gets a redo at the 4th rounder

It's a steep price to pay but this is a no-win scenario for Dubas. If he doesn't try to improve the team he will get criticized. If he makes a trade he will get criticized for giving up too much.
