Confirmed Trade: [TOR/STL/MIN] O'Reilly, Acciari, Pillar to TOR; Abramov, Gaudette, ‘23 1st, ‘23 3rd, ‘24 2nd to STL; ‘25 4th to MIN

As an outsider can't understand the Dubas bashing with this one. As someone else pointed out, the pick is more like a second rounder, 3/4's of ROR's contract is being covered by the Blues and Wild, and the Leafs are in a place to make a run this year.

It seems like the two players provide just what the Leafs need in terms of supporting the scorers.

This trade is going to turn out terrible for them if they don’t do damage in the post season. And with Tampa and Boston practically locked in as their first two opponents there’s a good chance everyone is laughing at Toronto again come April.

Murray/Samsonov vs Vasey? Lol good f***ing luck.

This reeks of a desperate move from a GM who has spent his entire tenure not understanding where his teams weaknesses are.
Vasilevsky was 4-3 3.04 GAA and .897 against Leafs.

What happened to Dubas not being willing to trade a 1st for a rental?

That aside, I think it makes sense for the Leafs, and I like the return for St.Louis and Minny as well. Solid trade all-around.
It was just posturing, ofc he would move a 1st if it was for the right player, and he got Acciari and Pilar, so that help maximizes the value in trading the 1st. It's a great move for Tor imo, still having Sandin, Niemela, Knies being untouched.

How does Anderson stack up in this regard:

O'Reilly: 32.78% (9th fewest in the NHL)

Despite being buried in Dzone starts and facing among the highest QoC among centers (the matchup guy against the other teams best players night in night out) as well, he still holds a +3.87 xGF% REL....plus hes an elite faceoff guy.

There’s a good chance they don’t succeed regardless of what they do. Those teams have by default the toughest road to the Cup.

Vasi had an .897 vs Toronto last year. Unfortunately Campbell had the same.

It actually sounds like you might not understand their weaknesses.
Well if the leafs stand pat they won't make their aponnents do anything either
St Louis got some draft picks but dubas can get most of those back by dealing Engvall and ketfoot
Not the number 1.the price of doing business is number 1s

I get that there is a risk to trade for a player in a down year. But there has been numerous times a change of scenery and a new team has rejuvinated a player - so writing O'Reilly off as a useless addition seems to be a little ingenuine. He had roughly 60 points last year - so it is not like the trend of down play has a huge backing.

Leafs have to go for before AM leaves so this trade makes sense. If Dubas gets bounced early again he wont even be around so it wont matter.

What is your point? Why are we talking about Josh Anderson? Lol
The point is that his stats are mediocre and he is a 32 year old power forward. Should he not be able to produce with whoever his linemates are? Anderson has played with much worse and put up the same stats so that should not be an excuse for a player with more ability than Josh. I haven't watched the Blues play much so I don't know if there is a reason for this season's performance.

I know one thing for sure:

The East gonna be a real bloodbath this upcoming playoffs... Rangers, Bruins, Toronto, Carolina, Jersey all loading up.. Tampa still a threat..... Whoever comes out alive will limp his way to the finals.....boy oh boy...

Since the Tampa series, it was obvious they wouldn’t go anywhere without adding 2-3 forwards who are hard to play against. That’s what won Tampa the series last season.. They had those players in their bottom 6. Players who win battles on the walls, play in traffic, and just wear down opponents. Players who can take the pressure off of the big 4.

Dubas accomplished that tonight. He deserves credit for knowing what he needed. People will mock the trade because ROR frankly hasn’t been great this year. However, he’s going to play a different role in TO. To win battles in the hard areas, and help wear down the other team’s better players.

Yep, they paid a huge price, but that’s what you do during your window.

They can use one more hard nosed player up front. An Oskar Sundqvist type. Other than that, the issue they have on the backend can’t be changed without a foundational change they can’t afford. So build where you can.

Great trade for both teams.
