yeah obviously, there's a reason why we got him for 1.8m.The likelihood of this happening is very remote.

I also think ovie and the other russians weren't the best for him in wash. Ovie might be a great leader but i still remember samsanov stoning boston all throughout 3 periods and an OT and then he makes a silly mistake to cost them in 2ot (i think could be the first ot) and gets yelled at by ovie in a game they had no business in being in if not for samsanovs ten bellers. Can’t comment on how likely it is but Samsonov is also a couple of years younger than Sorokin and Sheshterkin. His development hasn’t worked out as planned in Washington and it sounds like there’s technical things he can work on and have a different mental approach. Sounds like he doesn’t have quite the wide frame of a Vasi from a body POV but he does have length and is quite athletic.

Agreed. Guys like him just need to be pushed. If he gets back to playing a sound ish game and our guys can adjust his technique the upside is massive.Yeah not sure what the dynamic of the Russian clique would be in Washington but at least here he can keep focused without a lot of veteran established Russian stars getting in his grill.
Ovie gave Samsonov the Matthews to Holl, treatment... the star don't like you and/or blames you for poor plays, you tend to be on the next train out of town. Can’t comment on how likely it is but Samsonov is also a couple of years younger than Sorokin and Sheshterkin. The downside is if there is one area that I don't trust our development team, its in the goaltending department.
How can you not like the goaltending department when it's basically all new?Agreed. Guys like him just need to be pushed. If he gets back to playing a sound ish game and our guys can adjust his technique the upside is massive.

Semi-hot take but I think he’s our #1 by the end of the year.
I said I don't trust it. Not that I don't like it. And I don't trust it, because frankly like you said.... its new.How can you not like the goaltending department when it's basically all new?
That's fair but elkin and Sanford are respected in the field and considered in touch with the current style of hockey and goaltending styles needed to succeed.I said I don't trust it. Not that I don't like it. And I don't trust it, because frankly like you said.... its new.
I think they will as well. It's just tough to gauge considering we have limited body of work to go on. I hope they're amazing though obviously. That's fair but elkin and Sanford are respected in the field and considered in touch with the current style of hockey and goaltending styles needed to succeed.
Agreed they are an unknown and I don't know how good they will be, but I'm confident they will be better than what we moved on from

I like these isolation videos this guy puts up on YouTube. Samsonov is very athletic, very active in net.

You think its a semi-hot take that Murray will end up being a backup? lolSemi-hot take but I think he’s our #1 by the end of the year.
This might be the safer move in net and a better safety net. This is move where Dubas hedged his bet and may have minimized the risk coming with Murray. With all Murray discussion about his health and the poor deal Dubas pulled off, Samsonov seems to have been forgotten.
I think this is going to turn into a great pickup, the most exciting move of the off season.
(Plus a fresh topic is needed,)
If they both have good years, Murray becomes tradeable and Samsonov becomes the franchise. The one year deal seems fruitless
If anything positive happens he either
A. Prices himself out and goes
B. Forces Dubas to potentially pay to dump murray
Disclaimer: key word is potentially also known as hypothetical and not a statement of fact.

I think basically anybody but Briere is going to be better. I think Acrobatic Goalie said some pretty eye opening things about good ole Stevie when discussing his approach to goaltenders in general...which is tinker, tinker and more tinker. That's fair but elkin and Sanford are respected in the field and considered in touch with the current style of hockey and goaltending styles needed to succeed.
