Every time I think of how much I hate this, I step back and look at the big picture.

We're legitimately getting statistically identical or better goaltending based on 2021-22 stats.

There's a lot to like about this.

I like the signing, but still don't like the idea of a Murray/Samsonov tandem next year. Especially with Campbell only ending up getting a touch more than what we are paying the former. Hopefully my pessimism proves unwarranted.
I really dislike the Murray deal, but, Campbell has major issues with puck control in tight and still hasnt faced a starters load in the NHL, and 5 years is just too much.
Oil gambled and lost on a hot streak from Koskinen, hopefully Campbell put it together, but, i wouldnt have risked a 5 year deal, just because he's a nice guy, and had an amazing start to the season.

This web site is as bad as the Leafs in game 7s. Now we see posts of ignored posters.

Make it go away HF.
They had great timing on this, if you can upgrade your website why not do it just before one the most important days of that year. What can go wrong when traffic ramps up.

Samsonov had lots of international success and a good rookie year. Then he got into a serious ATV accident that he did not tell the team about. Injured his back and neck, and couldn't pass a physical (which is when they found out). Hasn't been the same since.

Maybe he can get better with more time since the accident.

I have a theory and not sure if it’s been mentioned. Ilya was quite immature mainly due to his age and off season antics with his ATV injury a few years ago. Maybe being around all those older Russian players on the Caps perhaps hurt him more than it helped. Please do realize that I don’t say this in an anti-Russsian way. No different than if he was Finnish, Swedish etc and around his elder country men. Think of it as him always taking the easy path because he was part of the boys club.

Maybe also think of it as being coddled while living at home and now he’s out on his own and has to find the meaning of life. He knows that he needs to figure it out and hopefully this is the wake up call for him.

I like him and will definitely be pulling to see him succeed.

Definitely has a ton of upside.

Also, Caps fans are saying he was badly failed by their goalie coach, who apparently has a history of ruining young goalies.

Hopefully, Sanford can help Samsonov

I don't agree. I believe the Leafs locker room and managment LOVED Campbell.

The problem was term. Nothing more. And the term wasn't because they don't have faith in Campbell,
I don’t think they had faith in him at all, which is why he didn’t get an offer.

The Leafs have played three OT games in the last two playoffs when they had a chance to close out a series (two vs Montreal, one vs.
Tampa.) He gave up 3 OT goals on 8 shots.

Nice guy, decent goalie, but we were never winning a Cup with him. He’s James Reimer II.

I’ve been thinking.

I actually kinda love this signing.

I didn’t want to like it, cause I know he’s bad.

But in the small chance he can become what was initially thought of him…. Game changer.

Trying to find some excitement with the Murray acquisition, I find him to speak confidently, maturely and very business-like approach. It all comes down to how he can stop pucks, but if there's positives, it might be that you have a more assertive, confident player in net than a real nice guy.

He's very young for a goalie. Younger than Shesterkin and Sorokin for reference. The one year length is not a risk to Toronto, but I almost wonder if it should have been timed the same length as Murray.

Agreed and I think Murray is going to prove a lot of people wrong.

Two-time Cup winner goes to a shit team in a shit city playing in front of shit fans, and plays two seasons hurt. Playing in front of one of the worst teams in the league would crush anyone’s soul after winning two Cups.

He is coming to play in front of a much better team than he had in Ottawa, and he is coming in with a chip on his shoulder. If he can regain his form, look out.

Call me crazy, but I’d take Murray/Samsonov with Kallgren as a safety net over Jack/Mrazek, AINEC.

Samsonov wanted to bet on himself. And fortunately he's RFA after this season.

I'm fine with adding him. The cost is fine and he's still an RFA after this. He's betting on himself and we're in a good spot to benefit. He definitely needs to be better, but there's solid potential for him to manage that. Big summer for him and big opportunity.

Fingers crossed that he shows up and does well.

If this guy figures it out, he could be our franchise goalie for the next 10 years. He has all the tools...

Big IF though.
