Well we took 2 shots in da dark both with high potential .. I like Murray's odds better as he knows how to win a Cup .. I think his issues were more being on a crappy D with his own injury issues .. but we only committed 2 years so much more reasonable than Mrazek which I never understood .. Samsonov well I am not big on picking up a guy who another team thinks is useless but 1st round picks generally always get another look from another team

its actually samsonov + comrie + 2.9 cap
VS
samsonov + murray + a 3rd round pick + a 7th round pick

i felt the need to correct your correction lol since the 3rd round pick is pretty valuable in whats looking to be a very good draft
+future considerations 😉

How does this signing make the other deal better?
Because you now have a tandem that has stanley cup pedigree and cam with 2 picks and retention, while the other has had good runs and was a 1st round pick - and it is only costing the Leafs $6.7 million in cap space.

It's an upgrade from last season, more specifically the last half season, and has a much higher ceiling possibility too.

He played behind Zaitsev... yeesh, that's enough to give up all hope.

Yes we have tandem. Cup pedigree with the caveat being Murray has had many injuries and has not been able to put together a 50 game season in a very long while. The way you phrase things is as though we have it all sewn up and we're ready to contend. The reality is we are spinning the wheel of fortune and hoping to not land on bankrupt.

So we basically just signed our No. 1 for this season at a reasonable price (kidding, not really). I like it. When Murray gets hurt (not if), we now have a legitimate option. I like the 41-41 split with the better tender getting more if they're on a heater.

Well, the Capitals signed Charlie Lindgren to $1.1M for 3 years after not qualifying Samsonov.

I championed the idea of signing Lindgren to Toronto...Not sure how I feel about Samsonov at the moment given that particular cycle.

Hopefully the new goalie coach can fix his game up. I believe in this guys potential he's just got to clean up his game.

Really like this signing.
Ilya is still young and has a ton of potential. If he pans out, we have a keeper for the foreseable future. If not, it was only a 1y deal on an affordable cap hit.
Very low risk, high reward.

Kevin Woodley from InGoal Magazine was on Leafs Lunch today. (If the link below does not work, you can find it on TSN 1050's podcasts.) I found it very informative about goaltending in general and Murray and Samsonov in particular.

Dubas: No guaranteed starter. Both can steal the job. Term and age was a sticking point with Campbell. Murray and Samsonov are young and have a lot of upside.

Just have to wait and see. Not really sure what happens if they are both terrible. Hopefully we catch some lightning here.

Good listen. Recommend. Curtis Sanford coming over as goalie coach after working with mentor Ian Clark in Vancouver could be a huge next step at the professional level depending how open Murray and Samsonov are to refining their games. Sounds like both already have started the process in the last year so there is hope.

This is a no brainer move and a good deal. In fact this is generally what Dubas does, Matt Murray notwithstanding. This guy in Washington never seemed to have the confidence of his coaches or team mates. His lack of confidence showed in his play... i'd almost call it hesitant and not instinctual... First round pedigree, physically fine.. simply lost as a goaltender and needs to have a reset.

im stoked lots of talent lots of value hold on to him past this season, could turn in to our rask

we have watched countless goaltenders move from one team to another and find another gear. hell we saw it with campbell just recently.

we went from a career back up who had a good run followed by a horrible one and maybe saved some grace in the playoffs. to a cup performer who has had a down couple years. and a 25 year old highly touted goalie who hasnt been able to get both feet firmly planted.

i take what we have today over yesterday 7 days a week and twice on sunday
