Hall is going to go for like a 2nd and two middling prospects and he's going to put up insane numbers with a legitimate team.

Yep. This is an all in move. If the Leafs run into a "hot goalie" again and find themselves out early people are going to wonder why this was the player they prioritzed.

Oh well. Should the Leafs make the Final Four (which they still have a good chance of doing) the "grit and toughness" crowd will still say it's a win and that Foligno is all we needed. I hope this guy does more than just look mean and facewashes.

we have run into a hot goalie except this time he is in OUR net

I don't care for picks anymore. It's go time, it's time to burn the boats
I like the trades we made. I still think we need a depth winger and a goalie. We have the cap space if Andersen is out long

Throw in few picks at Buffalo for Ullmark and let's get Bobby Ryan
Hoffman would be ideal. I still think they get Granlund from Nashville
Oh yes, I agree its go time. I love these trades. Can’t believe some of these Fans who are so negative about this trade. I think they wanted Hall. I think we have too many of those on the team already. We needed Foligno. We really need a goalie and yes another Dman. Hopefully, Dubas at least gets us a goalie. That is the Leafs biggest weakness right now. Just nervous with all those what if Campbell gets injured or his super goalie game doesn’t translate into the playoffs.

The next day will certainly reveal where we are at with things. If we can add a goalie then we aren't expecting Andersen back to backup Campbell anytime soon. If not then he's probably closer than we think and can hopefully get out there to let Campbell rest a bit.

I get why people were focused on Hall. That would be a crazy skilled top group. But I honestly like the versatility we get here. Foligno can play in a lot of situations on different lines. It gives Keefe huge options to mix things up. And honestly yeah we can use that kind of guy and the element he adds.

They are going for it as much as they possibly can. And I'm excited to see how it works out.

This is exactly the point. Why are people getting bent out of shape about giving up a pick that most likely will be lucky to equal Noesen 5 years from now. We are well past the building stage and into the win now stage. Foligno helps us win now and the mystery box help rebuilding teams. Teams like we used to be.

Why can't we be in the 'win now' stage and also remain in the win for the future stage as well like Detroit did for so many years in their hey day? You have a good Leafs team right now, but if you want to maintain a good Leafs team in the future you of course have to keep drafting and developing prospects well in addition to trading your players who have value that you can't keep for other propects and picks.

I don't know why people keep thinking that we only have a few years to stay at the top and compete when as long as Matthews is here then the Leafs window to win the Cup will always remain open.

Id say a goalie is next

might not make the line up? Did you watch Columbus against us last year? Dubois and Foligno man handled us every shift. Foligno is so valuable. He is going to create so much room for JT and Willy or Matthews and Marner. Incredible forechecker: this team is going to be really hard to play against. If we can get Oleksiak to play with Bogosian I’d say we are set.

which line would Oleksiak fit best in?

Dubas didn't accumulate the young players. Our scouting staff did. Dubas traded away a 1st for Marleau last year, and the 1st this year.

Had to fix the previous mistake of signing Marleau, then made up for it by robbing the Pens of their first only a few spots away. Its a wash imo.

TRAIKOS: Wendel Clark says Leafs could use a player like Columbus' Nick Foligno | Toronto Sun

I remember a Wendel interview after the series...couldn't find it but this has the quote. Foligno was CBJs best player in the playin series according to captian Clark.

And remember the 1st rounder will be very late

“..one of the best players was probably Nick Foligno,” said Clark, “And it had nothing to do with stats. If you look at the stats, he wasn’t leading at all. But he was. He was leading as an energy player. He was in the face of our best players all the time, finishing checks and wearing down our defence.
“It might not work in the first period of Game 1, but by the third period of Game 5, what he was doing for the whole series made them a better team.”

the Captain has spoken

I don't think he will be alone.

Let's compare both lineups from last year to this year. Go back 2-3 years and do the same. Compare those teams with this team that has Brodie, Bogosian, Thornton, Simmonds, Foligno, Galchenyuk and Campbell in net. This current Leaf team would win 19 out of 20 playoff series.

If Dubas adds a couple more pieces (in my opinion, a solid D man and backup vet goalie), Leafs will win all 20 and it won't even be close. Not only are they better on paper, they are playing a far better defensive game, which is an absolute necessity to win a Cup.

I'd just like to take this opportunity to remind people of 5 years ago versus today:

Kadri, Parenteau, Komarov, Rielly, Bozak, Gardiner, Van Riemsdyk, Holland, Boyes, Phaneuf, Grabner, Matthias, Greening , Lupul, Winnik, Nylander, Hunwick, Laich, Spaling, Marincin, Hyman, Smith, Brown, Michalek, Corrado, Leivo, Soshnikov, Froese, Arcobello, Carrick, Clune, Leipsic, Loov, Lindberg, Brennan, Campbell, Gauthier, Harrington, Carrick, Percy, Kapanen, Valiev, Sparks, Reimer, Bernier

Matthews, Marner, Tavares, Hyman, Nylander, Rielly, Spezza, Muzzin, Kerfoot, Mikheyev, Holl, Brodie, Thornton, Simmonds, Engvall, Galchenyuk, Foligno, Dermott, Bogosian, Brooks, Sandin, Petan, Barabanov, Andersen, Agostino, Anderson, Lijegren, Amirov, Robertson, Hutchinson, Campbell

This should fire up the locker room... The leafs now have 4 former captains.. and got a lot tougher. If you don't think the skilled guys on our line up are going to get a boost and play more confidently (on top of getting better defensively with Foligno) you need a head shake.

Leafs just got better.. now we give him time to gel and adjust and figure out the best line combos with all these players... I still think there might be one more depth move come trade deadline.. but all the pieces are pretty much ready to marinate and figure it out in time for playoff hockey. I believe the recipe is there. To me it will be a disappointment if we don't come out on top of Canada.. that's the goal and if we get there..... The confidence and chip on the shoulder (along with the monkey off their back) will only add to there play (granted they stay healthy)
