Solid solid.
Extreme defensive usage and does well in it. His offense will most certainly go up with us over his current 30pt pace.
And physical.
So that's maybe the two best defensive forwards on a great defensive team that we've just added.
So this should shut up all you damn boomers now.
What is the likelihood the first pick would turn into a Nick Foligno calibre player
Imagine at the end of the year if we had 2 Sandins and 2 Robertsons instead of trading away our last 2 first round picks and being left with nothing.
I would have preferred Palmieri a bit. But I'm super excited to have a player like Foligno on the team. And as a side bonus, it's a relief to know Hall isn't coming here.
Him and Simmonds can be game changers in a playoff series.
It SUCKED playing against Foligno last year in the playoffs. Great movie Dubie.
Edit:
2 more thoughts:
1. Foligno is going to be a better, more rounded version of Clifford minus the fighting. No one fights in the playoffs anymore anyway, but Foligno will 100% be the man to stick up for his linemates every shift. Foligno also is a huge addition to our PK, which will be huge in the playoffs, and has already cost us in the playoffs.
2. In response to the argument that this is a "waste" of a draft pick - we would be wasting our prior first round picks (Marner and Matthews and the gang) by not maximizing our roster during our window. The window is wide open right now so we might as well go all in.
hey man,,,, when you have a tender that is 0/8 in clinching games,,well your FdAnything is possible but it wont return a similar player within the next few seasons. We've done the rebuild, drafting Matthews and signing Tavares accelerated the rebuild. They've failed three years in a row (wont count the caps loss).
Its go time.
Ok well, time will tell how much impact Foligno has. As for losing the first round pick to Carolina, you win some and you lose some. But the Leafs got a first round pick and drafted Amirov by trading Kapanen. My point is that I think we have enough young players who have been developing. We can’t just keep on trying to draft players and hope they will develop. Dubas hired those scouts and as a team drafted those players. They did a great job finding some great players in the lower rounds last couple of drafts. I think the Leaf’s time is now to go for it. Our star players aren’t getting any younger and I think its time for the Leafs to take a chance and go for it. Foligno adds something which the Leafs didn’t have. I have a feeling he will elevate his game I the playoffs and shut down the other team’s top players. But again we will see how it will translate. Really don’t care about this year’s first round pick. Its a weak draft. I am sure Dubas will make it up some how. Its not even going to be a top 10 pick.Dubas didn't accumulate the young players. Our scouting staff did. Dubas traded away a 1st for Marleau last year, and the 1st this year.

This is not even talking about how Carolina took Seth Jarvis with our pick. A player that is going to be a star in the league.

Lol @ all the rage. Imagine this place 4 years ago complaining about getting Nick Foligno. You will see this trade pay dividends and then some in the playoffs. He will be a huge difference maker for us in the postseason. Count on it
People on here love drawing up 30 player lists they gather from reading legit scout ranks. Then years later when one of the 30 players makes noise in the NHL, they will come on here and say "I can't believe the Leafs didn't pick them! They were on my list!!"This. The draft picks are such a gamble - there are bad draft years. Reality check: you won’t be getting a McDavid or Matthews every year. You would be fortunate to find a Foligno. He’s got intangibles that you simply cannot teach.
Totally agree. Guys like Foligno and Nash are the type of warriors you want on your team come playoff time. And for those who are complaining they’re free agents, who’s to say we don’t re-sign them? This helps us have a head start on negotiations for a deal to be made once the expansion draft is complete.

yupLets wait until Sandin and Robertson accomplish something at the big league level before anointing them.
he is 1 inch shorter then the league average and about 10 lb heavier
now you can call that a big player,,i sure as heck won't
how he plays is a different descriptive line
I have mixed feelings in that I'm not sure where he fits into the line up. I'm assuming he will be 2nd or 3rd LW, but can he still play efficiently in the top 6? He brings those things we need, leadership, defensively smart, gritty checker with some skill, albeit, not as much as he used to of course.
He also stands up for his team mates and is a pretty good fighter, hell, he's fought Reaves and did decent.

I see nothing out of Simmonds to say he'll have any impact in playoffs. He cannot skate. I dont' care how tough he is, he cannot skate to keep up. His game unfortunately has passed by, like Lucic's game
They are not impactful like they once were. Ritchie on the other hand is, Virtanen they have potential
Niemela might end up that level of prospect too. We’ve drafted in the first round 2/3 years with Dubas as GM. The year we didn’t have a 1st we drafted robertson, who almost immediately demonstrated himself as a 1st round level prospect.
in PO style hockey??Foligno and Simmonds can be game changers?
What year is this
