Alex Iafallo, playing alongside Tavares (he plays beside a very similar player in Kopitar now) would have been a great upgrade, enabling Hyman to move to the bottom 6 and terrorize other teams as arguably the best bottom 6 guy in the NHL.

Iafallo is a much superior offensive player, who doubles as a good forchecker and is an ideal skater, in his prime at 27 years old.

I think it's entirely likely LA isn't that interested in trading Iafallo.

And Foligno can play with Tavares and Nylander, so Hyman can now go to the third and that's exactly what I anticipate will happen.

For all the cry babies.

1. We don't know the outcome of the trade until end of year
2. Our first is going to be late pick
3. Scouting is lacking this year; so it's a crap shoot.
4. We kept all our top A prospects
5. We are only paying 25% of his salary

6. Would you rather play with Foligno on your team or against him? please think!

Stop shittting on Dubas. This is the same guy that has built this team that is in 1st place.

Bunch of cry babies who I expect to apologize to Dubas at year's end.

Yes, we'll all apologize for questioning a GM on the value in a trade. Posting on a sports forum is super serious business after all.

This is easily the worst trade that Dubas has made in his time here. Foligno better find that fountain of youth, especially if he is playing in the top 6, because he hasn't been worth half of this price since he turned 30. Paying a 2nd alone for this guy was pushing it. Major gamble and a ton of pressure on Foligno to perform a lot better than he has since pretty much he was a PPG player that one time 6 years ago. That and the Leafs having legitimate success in the playoffs is the only way this deal has any legs. He especially needs to play better than he did against the Leafs and Lightning last year, because he was not good in either series. At least it should quiet a lot of Dubas haters because this kind of sub-par move is straight out of Lou's awful playbook, and exactly what they want.

The market better have completely fallen out for guys like Laughton, Iafallo, etc. No way Dubas should have paid the same for Foligno as Lou did for Palmieri and Zajac unless Foligno (and Hall) were the only guys remaining on the market, and everyone else who has any kind of legitimacy also goes for a high price. So much for this being a buyers market.

Because Tavares wasn't having a rough enough offensive year by his standards. Now you want to put and old, slow, sub 0.5 ppg player on his wong for 17 minutes per night?

To those that say Dubas traded a 1st rounder away, well Dubas can also trade for 1 st rounder back before the draft, kind of like what he did last year.

This.

I'm also skeptical on this draft simply because of the lack of scouting which could lead to more uncertainty. And while not all picks will bust it may be harder to hit on the pick.

Probably as good of a year as you can get to trade a pick.

We
Friedman mentioned a potential 1 for 1 swap with Dermott/Oleksiak. Because Dermott is a RFA and would make it easier to leafs o focus on Hyman in the off-season. And have Sandin take over for Dermott
still need Goaltending depth too. We need it bad.

Right now I don't care about the cost of the picks because it's all in or nothing for 2021.

Let's just wait and see what other moves Dubas makes before we throw the widow into the fire pit.

Still need another D and a goaltender.

A lot of people are forgetting that UFA will come a lot cheaper next year, and we can fill in the holes and make trades later.

I think it's a pretty solid overpay.

Eric Staal went for a 3rd and a 5th. Foligno went for a 1st and two 4ths. They're pretty similar calibre players at this point in their careers, but we added a 1st rounder on top of the two mid-rounders Montreal gave up for Staal. I get that he addresses a need, but I still see it as the Leafs getting tunnel vision and just being willing to pay whatever Columbus demanded, while other teams have traded for their target players at much better prices (another example is NYI getting both Palmieri + Zajac for similar value to what we gave up for Foligno i significantly better value for NYI).

I also question how much Foligno will even be invested as a rental player who's about to re-sign with his beloved team in the offseason. Even a 100% dedicated Foligno is mediocre, but it could be even worse than that

For somebody who has been a strong supporter of Dubas, you seem to be a doubting Thomas. He is a pending UFA, he should be invested if he wants another good contract and not a huge haircut.

Last year I thought it was dumb that we kept our “own rentals” when the team looked like garbage so many nights. Was obvious they weren’t going to win a cup. Liked the Campbell trade because we needed a backup.

this year is the year to waste assets at the deadline. I like adding defence IMO they have enogh offence no point being in more unless we ship some out. These moves add balance and grit. Wouldn’t mind a d man add too if we are loading up more

I'm amazed at how many people are hating on this deal.

Absolutely nobody should have a problem with this trade you added Nick Foligno and all you gave up was a 1st and 4th round pick you can do that because you have Amirov Sandin Robertson, Lillyetc. In the system you have a strong prospect pool moving a 1st isn't going to hurt you.

Personally I don't care if they package their 2nd tomorrow too, nobody has been able to properly scout anyway so punt it trade every pick you have in the 2021 draft go all in and get that championship.

I like the deal. With Foligno and Nash, we are a tougher team and are much harder to play against. Weak defence and team softness have been our major weaknesses for years, particularly in playoffs, and Dubas has addressed them.
