I mean most players are motivated to win a cup. He doesn't seem like the kind of player that you have to worry about a lack of effort.I also question how much Foligno will even be invested as a rental player who's about to re-sign with his beloved team in the offseason. Even a 100% dedicated Foligno is mediocre, but it could be even worse than that
I would LOVE that. Does Dallas do that with their expansion draft plans; I just speculated they wouldn't based on this:Seattle Expansion Draft Simulator - CapFriendly - NHL Salary CapsFriedman mentioned a potential 1 for 1 swap with Dermott/Oleksiak. Because Dermott is a RFA and would make it easier to leafs o focus on Hyman in the off-season. And have Sandin take over for Dermott
I share this concern about the price. Unfortunately we won't know the answer until tomorrow afternoon once the deadline passes. However, I still think Foligno does more for us than most guys who have been rumoured and was one of the most sought after guys out there.
I think it's a pretty solid overpay.
Eric Staal went for a 3rd and a 5th. Foligno went for a 1st and two 4ths. They're pretty similar calibre players at this point in their careers, but we added a 1st rounder on top of the two mid-rounders Montreal gave up for Staal. I get that he addresses a need, but I still see it as the Leafs getting tunnel vision and just being willing to pay whatever Columbus demanded, while other teams have traded for their target players at much better prices (another example is NYI getting both Palmieri + Zajac for similar value to what we gave up for Foligno i significantly better value for NYI).
Much needed intagibles.Good point...also the big question is...will they un-retire David Clarkson's number 71 for Foligno???
Were there? Name them thenI’d rather be the team that doesn’t over pay and wins personally.
The market was set with the Palmeri/Zajac deal. It cost the Islanders less and they got more back.
I’m comfortable with the fact that prices are higher at the deadline. It doesn’t mean you have to give up more than you should.
Look if we go on and win the cup no one will care what it cost but there were better deals out there for the price we paid.

Because Tavares wasn't having a rough enough offensive year by his standards. Now you want to put and old, slow, sub 0.5 ppg player on his wong for 17 minutes per night?
I remembered that too. Great memoryI still remember his dad scoring and that jumping celebration. I hope he does one for his old man
hehe I mentioned this a while back as well!
I trust Wendel.
This is easily the worst trade that Dubas has made in his time here. Foligno better find that fountain of youth, especially if he is playing in the top 6, because he hasn't been worth half of this price since he turned 30. Paying a 2nd alone for this guy was pushing it. Major gamble and a ton of pressure on Foligno to perform a lot better than he has since pretty much he was a PPG player that one time 6 years ago. That and the Leafs having legitimate success in the playoffs is the only way this deal has any legs. He especially needs to play better than he did against the Leafs and Lightning last year, because he was not good in either series. At least it should quiet a lot of Dubas haters because this kind of sub-par move is straight out of Lou's awful playbook, and exactly what they want.
The market better have completely fallen out for guys like Laughton, Iafallo, etc. No way Dubas should have paid the same for Foligno as Lou did for Palmieri and Zajac unless Foligno (and Hall) were the only guys remaining on the market, and everyone else who has any kind of legitimacy also goes for a high price. So much for this being a buyers market.
I wonder if Foligno plays with JT/Nylander. I don't think he is quick enough to play with Matthews/Marner. I think he could be a good fit with JT however that means Galy is going to play on the third line with likely Kefoot and Mikheyev which i have no idea how that will go.

I kinda saw him come together with Pittsburgh then even more in Dallas, especially in the playoffs. I was impressed & I've always liked his upside.Solid player most likely don’t know a hell of a lot about. Shutdown and tough if he needs to be. Clean but has a dirty streak too. Main thing is plays a simple defensive game.
