I'm lukewarm on the deal, but this a terrible way to look at it. If the Maple Leafs win the Stanley Cup, how many people will be concerned about the "value"?

I think the price is steep and I hate giving up high draft picks, but if the Leafs were going to make a move for a forward he's near the top of my list in terms of guys thought to be available. And as much as I hate giving up high draft picks, if you're ever going to do it this is the year. I do wonder if they could have got more mileage out of the 1st but again, it's not just about getting the best player but the best fit and I think Foligno will be a very nice addition.

I have no problem with going "all in" to win a Cup. My argument continues to be that there were available players that would have come for the same place, cheaper, that are better than Foligno. He doesn't move the needle for me, at all.

For all the cry babies.

1. We don't know the outcome of the trade until end of year
2. Our first is going to be late pick
3. Scouting is lacking this year; so it's a crap shoot.
4. We kept all our top A prospects
5. We are only paying 25% of his salary

6. Would you rather play with Foligno on your team or against him? please think!

Stop shittting on Dubas. This is the same guy that has built this team that is in 1st place.

Bunch of cry babies who I expect to apologize to Dubas at year's end.

My thoughts exactly - great post

People are crying over 2021 first rounder. Why ?

Our current first rounders are not even in our lineup and we have one in Russia

2021 First rounder going to be anyone's guess. Who do you even pick at 28? Have u seen any prospects this year?

Anyways. This is the player I wanted. Someone who has a bit of a grit. Him along with Nash are great

We got our top 9 forward already in Gally

Thinking a late first is superstar is hyperbole, just like this saying its nothing, hyperbole.

It's somewhere in the middle, I'm not upset about the trade at all he's a decent addition, expensive for a rental but thats the market (this buyers market stuff was B.S).

Personally i was hoping for a homerun packaging the first and getting a big difference maker, but alas that didn't happen and we hit a single possibly a double.

Biggest asset is his PK ability and we've been very good so far in that area.

My hope was for an offensive winger for the top 6 and have Hyman anchor the third line.

Seems Hyman will be top 6 and Foligno anchoring the 3rd line now.

But lets see how it all plays out, plus the deadline isn't over yet.

All in all it wasn't a negative move by any stretch, just was hoping for a big bang, but the market is a sellers market 100% this year.

That's a huge leap. We're not expecting to return a superstar or draft a superstar with our first round pick... We just want it to be used wisely.

The Islanders got Palmieri + Zajac for essentially the same price (they gave up two nothing prospects along with the picks)... Let that sink in.

I'm commenting on the overexaggerating reaction some sections of this fanbase can have on a trade. It's almost always "over paid" to them regardless of the return. And look maybe it is, but being a late round pick, in a questionable (to say the least) draft year , where this player likely wont be in the NHL for roughly a handful of years, is not something to worry about when you're team is contending for a Stanley Cup right now. I get it, we all want to keep our draft picks and or maximize its value but its okay, its really not the end of the world. We can't undervalue the amount of money being retained for Foligno(1.7m cap hit vs 5m for Palmieri and Zajac) or the fact that he was a captain on a perennial playoff team.

Can Foligno play C?

LTIR Andersen until POs and move Kerfoot in a twice retained Hall deal.

Galchenyuk-Matthews-Marner
Hall-Tavares-Nylander
Hyman-Foligno-Mikhayev
Simmonds-Spezza-Engvall

How often do we hear "if only we could clone/have two Zach Hyman's on this roster" ?

This is as close as we can come to that for a deadline move.

Right now I think we're looking at three big abrasive wingers in Hyman, Galchenyuk and Foligno to go along with high speed forecheckers like Engvall and Mikheyev. I think that looks a little bit like Coleman and Goodrow.

People also think he's suddenly over the hill or something.
He had his best playoff production ever last year.
And honestly, Columbus' offense both in skill and depth has taken a MASSIVE hit the last 2 years.

This season has not been great using a bunch of metrics but being captain of a sinking CBJ ship may have something to do with it. Even their young guys are in a funk this year. He isn't just a rental, he is going home and to a club his dad played for. and he is playing to showcase himself for his next contract. I would be surprised if he doesn't have another gear. I think his offense will improve but I don't know how much. They need his grit more than his scoring anyways.

Though I'm not sure Keefe wants to take Jumbo out of the lineup, in which case Engvall sits, Kerfoot moves to 4C, Joe 4LW.

might not make the line up? Did you watch Columbus against us last year? Dubois and Foligno man handled us every shift. Foligno is so valuable. He is going to create so much room for JT and Willy or Matthews and Marner. Incredible forechecker: this team is going to be really hard to play against. If we can get Oleksiak to play with Bogosian I’d say we are set.
Foligno got caved in 5 on 5 in last years playoffs... 60% offensive zone starts and a 40% CF is horrible.

His line had an elevated shooting % and his teams SV% when his on the ice was ridiculous.

I'm not a fan of the price but we added depth without giving up a roster player or prospect so I'm fine with it, but expecting us to get way better from this deal is unfair to put on Foligno.

I'm feeling pretty confident that's not how it's gonna line up.

I think Foligno will end up with Tavares and Nylander, and Hyman is going to make our 3rd line a force.
This is how I see it as well.

The Eng-Hyman-Mik line will be an amazing shutdown line. Shame the wingers are so snakebitten on offence, hopefully they break out in playoffs

who would have moved the needle for you? there isn't much out there. I also can't think of any other team in the North that has the forward depth that we have.

Alex Iafallo, playing alongside Tavares (he plays beside a very similar player in Kopitar now) would have been a great upgrade, enabling Hyman to move to the bottom 6 and terrorize other teams as arguably the best bottom 6 guy in the NHL.

Iafallo is a much superior offensive player, who doubles as a good forchecker and is an ideal skater, in his prime at 27 years old.

It's absurd that we paid a 1st+ two 4ths for Foligno when Staal went for a 3+5.

Foligno's biggest asset is his leadership, but that's why we're trotting out the corpse of Thorton, so wtf.
