I guess no hope to add another top6 forward that can score eh?

I guess Engvall and may be Jumbo off the roster when both Nash and Foligno are good to go? Or does Galchenyuk come out?

Was really hoping for a top6 forward that can score.....

but like I said before I don't mind this.... not going to get an easier path to conference finals than this season; if we make the conference finals then giving up the 1st is worth it IMO

I know its probably against the grain, but I don't like it.

Foligno is a fine player and should fit in nicely on the 3rd/4th line, but we're filled with guys that fit those spots. Trading a 1st for a guy that really isn't a game changer seems..... not good? Feels like a Plekanec/Boyle pick up more than it would have spending that 1st+ on a Hall-type.

Either way though it happened. He's a good player, and I'm much happier we traded the first (hopefully very late) in a bad draft than any of our top-4 prospects. Just think there were better guys to acquire.

This is exactly how you should feel. It stinks, IMO.

I like Foligno but not at the cost of 3 picks despite the retention. Think we could’ve done better with that package. How close does this get us something like Schwartz instead?

This is actually a great move and we are not done.. people freaking out have no idea what’s coming cause at 1.3 mil of the cap means more is coming and it’s gonna be a goal scorer or a D Man. We are gonna be A ok! This team is being build to win in a tough playoff environment. Exactly what we struggled with last year. We couldn’t score cause CLB were tougher than us. We just got tougher and watch he’s gonna score as well. 75% retained is great

Happy to add Foligno. 2021 draft is not considered a strong one and it’s been very difficult to scout players because of COVID.

How I'm going to wrap my head around this one is that we lost no one from our current roster, and unequivocally our team is better than it was yesterday. No matter how you feel about Foligno.

I don't like the value, but we want a Stanley Cup this season and if this helps us get there, the 1st round pick will forever be forgotten. Go Leafs.

This guy captained the blue jackets to a sweep against Tampa two years ago and they pushed the bolts hard again last summer. He’s a playoff warrior and a tough as nails leader. I love this trade.

People also think he's suddenly over the hill or something.
He had his best playoff production ever last year.
And honestly, Columbus' offense both in skill and depth has taken a MASSIVE hit the last 2 years.

Reading through the responses, I guess Leafs nation is back into the mentality of late 1st rounders being superstars again. Especially in a not so strong draft year

Thinking a late first is superstar is hyperbole, just like this saying its nothing, hyperbole.

It's somewhere in the middle, I'm not upset about the trade at all he's a decent addition, expensive for a rental but thats the market (this buyers market stuff was B.S).

Personally i was hoping for a homerun packaging the first and getting a big difference maker, but alas that didn't happen and we hit a single possibly a double.

Biggest asset is his PK ability and we've been very good so far in that area.

My hope was for an offensive winger for the top 6 and have Hyman anchor the third line.

Seems Hyman will be top 6 and Foligno anchoring the 3rd line now.

But lets see how it all plays out, plus the deadline isn't over yet.

All in all it wasn't a negative move by any stretch, just was hoping for a big bang, but the market is a sellers market 100% this year.

We pretty much gave up our 6th-best ‘futures’ asset possible.

1/2: Liljegren & Sandin
3: Robertson
4: Amirov
5: 2022 1st
6: 2021 1st

It’s a bit of an overpay but we can handle it fine thanks to Dubas’ stockpiling

We better hope that Foligno is willing to re-sign next year for about 3x 2.5m and play at a "reasonable" level for the next 3 years, until he's 35. That's about the only way we're getting the value out of him that Dubas gave up.

might not make the line up? Did you watch Columbus against us last year? Dubois and Foligno man handled us every shift. Foligno is so valuable. He is going to create so much room for JT and Willy or Matthews and Marner. Incredible forechecker: this team is going to be really hard to play against. If we can get Oleksiak to play with Bogosian I’d say we are set.

We are thinking alike. Have an impressive Dermot, a long term player here IMO, be our 7th.

I'd add that I'd like to see a veteran goalie added as a backup.

I love this pickup, anothere guy who won't get completely rattled if our offense dries up for a bit.

And hopefully this means no or very limited Joe Thornton.

Where were all the crappy draft, let’s give up a 1st crowd yesterday? Too funny.

We over paid, but it shows we are all in, he does make us better immediately. Also, Dubas has really evolved his thinking of how you build a team, I guess grit and size are important after all. I give him credit for being pragmatic and have faith in him moving forward, despite this price for a Foligno.

Now let’s go win a cup and he’s a genius for eternity.

A first and two fourths for a guy on the back-nine of his career and is a bottom-6 player is a pretty steep price, even with this year's lottery being a crap-shoot.

This is it. Might cost us some penalties but when referees put whistles away, you try your best to get any advantage you can get. Sometimes it’s gritty, sometimes it’s pesky, sometimes dirty but we absolutely did not have this element in this team.

could you imagine the motivation he’ll have playing for his dad’s team. That infection spreads.

What player on the market realistically addresses that area of weakness?

Which really isn't a weakness, IMO.
Hall definitely does. I'd also have taken Iafallo or Rakell. Overall, I just don't think the Leafs are a meaningfully better team now and that has to happen when you give up a first, otherwise it isn't worth it. We'll see if I'm wrong
