If the Jays don't make the playoffs, they don't make the playoffs. I don't know about you, but that doesn't really significantly affect my life. Now, don't get me wrong. I enjoy watching the Jays play playoff, but honestly, not having that doesn't cause me any distress or send me into a fit of depression. I do other things that I enjoy instead of watching playoff baseball and move on.

Yeah, but this thread about the Jays so we discuss things are of importance to the Jays season.

If he pitches the way he's pitched all year, he may well.

we're in a helluva race here. replacing a 2.5era with a 5.5era could easily be the difference.

sure hope he gets back to being liriano.

The saving grace is this...

If Martin can be the one who gets him back on the straight and narrow then it may make sense. I would assume they consulted with Russel similar to when they got Grilli.

Sanchez has pitched the 7th most innings this year, and is the 8th most efficient.

He's throwing 63% strikes.

Batters are hitting just .128 against him.

It's mind boggling.

If he feels wear and tear, then yeah, put him in the bullpen. Removing him when he says he hasn't felt anything, and he's pitching like a top 5 pitcher in the world? Come on.

I can't argue the science, since I don't have all the info in front of me. But, there is evidence a young pitcher making a big jump in innings pitched from one year to the next can be harmful.

There's roughly just as much evidence that spending time in a Sauna can be harmful to a ball player.

Sportsnet just played a recap of last years deadline week for the Jays. Tulo, Price. God, that was amazing.

How can you not be romantic about baseball. I love it.

The Nationals shut down Steven Strasburg, got dummied in the playoffs, and then he blew his arm out anyway.

But yeah, let's be arrogant and ignorant enough to think we will be in this position again next year

It's mind boggling.

Not really, the Jays have been pretty consistent saying Sanchez would be on a limit this year.

That is not a surprise and it's not crazy out of the ordinary.

All that has changed is his performance.

Very few would have thought he would pitch like the best pitcher in the league for the whole season. He started the season as a bottom of the rotation starter with almost no experience.

His performance has changed the conversation. But it's not like the original conversation about an innings limit was some crazy and wild, out-of-left-field idea.

*sigh*

As has been explained on multiple occasions, it's not the total number innings pitched. It's the jump in innings pitched from one year to the next for a young pitcher.

I can't argue the science, since I don't have all the info in front of me. But, there is evidence a young pitcher making a big jump in innings pitched from one year to the next can be harmful.

I'm not arguing the validity of this position, just the reasoning behind it. All of the guys you mentioned pitched bit innings numbers years into their careers.

Sanchez's career high in innings is about 133. The idea is he wouldn't pitch 25-30 per cent more than that this year.

He's at about 140 now, which gives him about 35-40 more before he reaches the limit.

With eight weeks to go, at five innings a week as a reliever, he should be okay.

Well apparently I am not an expert but there are no facts to prove this logic / theory

Again the coaches and the managers know better then any of us, so I have to respect their decision

mcguire's solid. key will be whether his D holds up. good arm at least.

but man it's weird to be trading for prospects right now.

Liriano better be good.

Yep. He better be good.

Trading for prospects at this time isn't just weird, it's stupid.

yeah look at all you peons caring about the sportsball

I like the Jays and I enjoy following the team. I am happy for the team and its players when they do well but they're the ones winning and losing -- not me. I haven't done anything when the Jays win. I guess I'm just not very good at living vicariously.

Maybe someone else can explain why it is so important to them that the Jays win. Or are people just being extremely hyperbolic when they get so worked up about things like a decision to move Aaron Sanchez to the pen?

OMG. :laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh:

Great asset management, but a bad trade.

I think I've heard it all. :laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh:

You can't name a single example of a bad AA deadline deal, but they were "underwhelming." Okay bud...

What Happ is doing now is irrelevant to the trade. Happ signed as a free agent. They traded prospects for two years of Happ. It's great assessment management because they traded Happ for Saunders and then signed him.

Lincoln for Snider wasn't good. Lincoln was not good for the Jays and was out of the league in a hurry. Snider was decent with the Pirates for a few years.

Did you read the part when I said I wasn't arguing the validity of the argument? Go back and read that.

I was simply stating the logic behind why THEY are making the move they're making with Sanchez.

Whatever. A decision on when to move Sanchez will be made and what happens happens. And there's no way to ever know what might have happened if a different decision was made.

If the Jays don't make the playoffs, they don't make the playoffs. I don't know about you, but that doesn't really significantly affect my life. Now, don't get me wrong. Dude, you have 8100 posts on a sports forum. I'd say you're quite well versed at living vicariously through sports teams.

Last I checked Sanchez didn't have TJS two years ago and threw only ~45 innings a year prior.

Okay, Good.

Then why are we putting him in the bullpen when he's had 0 previous issues, and 0 current issues

Question: can the Blue Jays limit Sanchez's innings for a while and then re-integrate him into the rotation by late-September and in time for the playoffs?

I don't care what type of deal you make. Any deal like this takes hours of negotiaotion and consideration. The fact that they were constructing a deal around Liranio and prospects shows me what their focus was on. It wasn't on going for a ring. It was a "value" trade. There are a lot of times to make this type of deal... But not now with our rare chance to win.

This isn't a reactionory post, I'm at earls having a Long Island ice tea. Just wanted to get my point across, **** Shaprio
