We were talking about the possibility of DeAngelo, Fox & Lundqvist all being a part of the plan for the future defense.

So there are 6 D on the ice and 7 on the roster...

Anyway, I think we are at the stopping point.

K'Andre Miller is certainly not small either
And isn't the primary reason people care about size that small players get pushed around? Because DeAngelo is no slouch in the grit, physicality or fighting department either.

Being no slouch in those departments doesn't make it any harder for a larger player to push you around, and this is coming from a big fan of both DeAngelo and Fox

Put it this way...

He's less good offensively, and exponentially less good defensively than Brian Leetch, and the Rangers still needed to pair Leetch with a defensive stalwart [Beukeboom, etc.] for him to play an end to end game, and this was when the Rangers were an elite team.

There are still too many "what if's..." on this team to peg players into a future roster.

That being said, my issue with ADA is how many years he wants, and how many years of UFA he will eat.

Also, on a related note, for all the people with man crushes who said "i hate ADA" when I explained "the Rangers weren't ruining him, and if he matured, he would play and then some, so I think you are emotionally driven idiots", my point still stands and has been 100% supported by reality.

Has absolutely nothing to do with being overwhelmed physically by fore-checking forwards or in front of net battles or in corner battles. We are not discussing if he can answer the bell.

Someone recently posted synergy points between Panarin & Strome. I have a gut feeling that Panarin & ADA synergy production is even better.
This is true according to the numbers, I looked into this just the other day. Though Strome does drive point production to a similar extent (but not chances and goals).

For reference a 5v4 powerplay with 6.22 GF/60 would place 20th in the league.

It's hard to explain how much I just enjoy him as a player. He's a bit of a throwback and I love it
I hope he wants to stay here in the worst way. I'm afraid we'll lose him in the summer to Philly. It's just total speculation, I have NO idea but I know he loves the Eagles, and is from Philly. What sucks is Skjei got the contract we should have saved for a D man like Tony D.

crazy stuff

top 20 scoring leaders on the blue line league wide, the average TOI substantially more than tony.

its shocking really what tonys doing with so much less ice time.

18:58 for tony. the rest of the top 19 is like 23:00

top 20 the only other dman not in the low to mid 20's TOI is shatty with the same exact 18:58 but with 10 less points.

in other words, tonys production is coming with much less average TOI. kids uber productive when hes out there.

pay the kid.

Miller - DeAngelo
Skjei - Fox
Lundkvist - Trouba

That D core would feature 6'4 211lb, 6'3 211lb & 6'3 209lb players. Would be a perfectly acceptable balance of size, grit & skating ability on the backend. Our centers are all pretty big too
Just curious, at what point in the future do you foresee this happening?

That lineup? Probably 3 years down the road, there's a big physical defender on every pairing and Miller & Skjei are great skaters to boot. I think that's a very well balanced core and not undersized at all. I've messed around with CapFriendly and we have a lot of money coming off the books, we could afford to keep all those players but of course I'd hope Trouba is moved at some point. Skjei is probably next in line if Miller really pans out how we're hoping

Total TOI can be a bit deceptive because he doesn't play on the PK at all. But he is 5th in 5v4 P/60 and 2nd in 5v5 P/60.

He's an RFA so unless Philly wants to offersheet him he isn't going there.

You always somehow manage to make it sound like Gorton and JD are somehow plotting NOT to pay him at all and how NOT to have him be a part of their future.

not true at all

they rolled the dice and gave him a 1 yr min offer because they had no cap left for him.

they said," show us what ya got kid".

he did.

now its time to pay up. nothing more.

no plot. just time to reward him for being the most productive dman in the entire league so far this season.

Aside from Trouba, who are the big, physical defenders?

If that is not true, then why the "Pay him"?
they rolled the dice and gave him a 1 yr min offer because they had no cap left for him.
If there is no cap room left, how is that rolling the dice? That is not taking a chance. That is dealing with reality.
they said," show us what ya got kid".

he did.
They said "We do not have another dime to give you. Sign your contract and play for your next contract. Or sit out a season". Again, no one was rolling dice. That was just dealing with being in the real world.
now its time to pay up. nothing more.
Now it's the time to sign him to a new contract. Nothing more.
no plot. just time to reward him for being the most productive dman in the entire league so far this season.

They will attempt to pay him in a way that will be good for both parties. He will either sign or they go to arbitration where Gorton will present market comps. In arbitration, I guarantee that he is NOT going to get paid as if he is most productive dman in the entire league so far this season.
